Boring Week

I took a quick look at the schedule this week and there doesn't appear to be many (any?) intriguing matchups.  About the only decent match I saw was the 4.0 contest between Sienna and JCC.  Jedi Knight and Copperfield in 4.5 is an ok matchup as well.

In 4.5 and 5.0 the "power teams" either have a weak off or are playing also-rans.  Until I see evidence otherwise, the 5.0 Copperfield team doesn't appear to have much standing in its path to Sectionals, and I certainly don't think the Upsetters will live up to their name this week.

Some of the stronger teams will get an opportunity to work some players into the lineups this week or experiment with some combinations.  Or tank...but that never happens.

  1. Come on Greg, you need to speculate about how the floods could potentially put at risk the ability for a strong team to field a lineup and how they might lose because of it. Or that how the pig flu (aka - Bacon's revenge) could wipe out a team to where they could not field a lineup.

Just make some stuff up like the mainstream media does - create the story where there is not one!

  3. BREAKING NEWS.. Sean Straley has signed up for Sugar Creek 4.5 Team.
Deucebags could be upset. Gotta love last minute additions to roster.

  4. Sienna will beat JCC with anyone from their 500+ roster. There really isn't any team in Houston that can beat Sienna right now, they are way to deep.

  5. Straley and Simon Jim make a nice one-two punch. If Burrmann and Day had stayed there it coulda' been interesting....

  7. WAIT A MINUTE....SEAN STRALEY IS A 4.5???

  8. Yup he's a Damn Good 4.5!!!

  9. Sienna can only field 8 players at a time. It doesn't matter how deep they are, this is not a gang fight. 8 vs 8 not 22 vs 8.

Although, Sienna looks to have grabbed everyone that is halfway decent within 50 mile radius. Good luck getting everyone qualified for playoffs.

  10. Straley being rated 4.5 is the biggest joke I've ever seen in league tennis.

  14. Scott Foster could beat Sean Straley and he's only a 4.0

  15. I agree which makes Oman Dibua the player to beat.

  16. Has anyone on either Sienna 4.0 or 4.5 teams ever been to Sectionals before? Until they win City Playoffs they are just a pretender team.

  17. Did Straley play college somewhere?

  18. The Sienna 4.5 team "might" win 1 match this year, but I doubt it. The Sienna 4.0 is solid and they should make it to cities.

  19. Does all 22 Sienna players have to play at least 2 matches each in order to qualify ??
How is that possible with the same 8 players playing every week and the rest are benchwarmer ??

  20. JCC will beat Sienna with its veteran doubles teams and line 2 singles.

  21. Yes, everyone must play 2x to get eligible for the next round (ie - city playoffs)

That is challenge as a captain of carrying more than 18-20 people in a 10 match season.

  22. "Straley being rated 4.5 is the biggest joke I've ever seen in league tennis"

thats a strong statement considering all the ringers that have been in the league. Did Sean Straley even play college tennis? Is he a bigger ringer than Wanja or Heim from last year?
