DQ?

The (unconfirmed) word on the street is that 3.5 self-rated ringer Glenn Flora has been DQ'd for Nationals. The Houston team was undefeated when it played its last match against Dallas, losing 3-2. Flora provided one of the wins for Dallas. Michael and the rest of his team will never know "what might have been".

I know I may sound like a broken record, but the decision not to run the computer during Sectionals was an extremely poor one. There's no way of knowing which match gave Flora his third strike or whether his scores would have been "different" had the computer been running. I know running the computer after each match is inconvenient and time consuming, but it really HAS to be done in the future.

  1. Even with Flora in that line-up we probably could have gone with a different line-up that would have won that line 2 singles match that went to a 3rd set tiebreaker and yet still came away with the 2 wins in the doubles matches.

Of course hindsight is 20/20. Captain Garry told me that the line 2 doubles match would have probably been lost had not the official been there as Dallas made 2 bad line calls at very crucial moments in the match that were reversed in favor of Houston.

It was a great run but it could have been extended I'm sure under different circumstances but it was a great learning experience especially for myself having hardly played in any of the pressure matches I'm used to watching.

  2. Don't see a DQ by his name yet but in the Women's DQ 2 weeks ago there was no DQ in place. The player was told she would not be able to participate at Nationals with her Team. H Town is correct though the computer should be ran and Teams should have to complete all there matches rather than pulling them off once they've clinched 3 lines.

  3. This is the second time in two weeks that Houston got screwed by the "no DQs at sectionals" rule, both times by a 3-2 loss to a Dallas team who used a ringer who went 6-0 at sectionals. Can someone answer the question "Why should players continue to play matches after they have gotten their 3rd strike?" I'm listening.

  4. I saw some DQ in the roster from team that played @ sectional 4.0 level. Were they DQ during the season?

  5. Which team was it that had the DQ? I can't seem to find it. Which other Houston team got screwed? Freeman's?

  6. It wasn't a DQ per se, but the team that one it all from Dallas had their best player, Glenn Flora, disqualified after Sectionals was over. There's no telling which match was responsible for his third strike. The team will be shorthanded at Nationals as Texas has probably not sent its strongest legal 3.5 team to Arizona.

  7. I believe the other poster was referring to Eugene Davis, who was not actually DQ'd. He, unlike Flora, had a computer rating, which makes a player virtually impervious to harm.

  8. Anonymous is probably speaking of Adam Blumberg who was DQ'ed prior to the City Playoffs, for being a D1 grad playing 4.0. He was on the Dallas -- Somabut team.

  9. Garland still has Zack Courtney who was said to be a ringer as well but did not play in sectionals due to an injury I believe. I'm guessing he would still qualify to play at Nationals though right?

  10. I see Red has his hands in the Olympics now. First getting D1 players in as 4.5, now getting under age girls into the women's gymnastics for China.

  11. I hear he recruits for the Asian spas as well, bringing in the ringers.

  12. How does a DQ take place during a regular season? Does the computer run match per match after a Team score is entered? Does the HTA put in the scores? As weird as it may seem scores will always be lopsided especially if the match-up is awkward in singles. Most of these players that are DQ after sectionals looked like they were dominant during the regular season as well which makes me wonder.

  17. Is someone going to give updates on the Texas teams at Nationals. Or are we too small to support our teams, regardless of how we feel about some individual players?
