Sugar Creek

Another exciting match between Sugar Creek and the Deucebags. I didn't see the opening two lines, as I was playing at the time. Aadrian Hasker played another tough match, beating Antoine Ford 10-8 in the third set breaker. I'm not exactly sure who won the early doubles match for Sugar Creek...I think it may have been Nick Hiemstra and Ken Douds, but don't quote me on that.

Simon Jim and Dat Bui also went to a third set breaker. There was some confusion over the score, some serving on the wrong side, but when all was said and done Bui pulled it out 11-9. Sugar Creek needed to sweep the last two doubles lines. Sean Straley and Tim Marco took down Alain Tran and Rick Boehck four and three, and it all came down to Jason Cooney and Luis Fernandez against Andy Diep and Derrick Dugas. Sugar Creek won the first set in a breaker and then closed out the final set before the lights were turned off.

I haven't done the math, but Captain Douds told me that if Miguel beats Sarosh it will probably come down to which team performs best against the Hurricanes. It seems like there's a big match for these teams every week, but they will truly need their top lineups against the Hurricanes.

In other matches, the Black Sheep destroyed the Hurricanes JV team 5-0. I believe the SAP 4.0 team won as well. The Hurricane 4.0 team rolled and Lakeside 4.0 swept. The Hurricane 4.5 team beat Sienna 4-1 with Trevino taking line 2 singles for Sienna. Also, the 5.0 Hurricane team lost its first match, against Willowfork, led by Nick Frank.

  1. Looks like Green finally got into the lineup.

  2. I didn't get the details. I think Nick Frank beat John Kudrick in singles.

  3. 5.0 has been decided already.

  4. So what is going to happen in the 4.0 flight 2?

Chancellors is lossless with one tough match against the Smokers.

Lakeside has one loss and has two cake walks remaining.

The Smokers have one tough one too.

This is the only "race" remaining in 4.0. All other spots are firm with the top 2 decided with only which is 1st and 2nd on the line.

  5. I just received word that JCC was upset by the Acers last night. Shocking.

  6. WOW...
sugar creek and duecebags are making this summer league exciting!

    div II.
with the blacksheep sweep, they are officially in second place, only by 5 sets.
NWO has two matches left, hurricanes and crush. if should sweep hurricanes and go 3-2 or 2-3 against crush. however, if hurricanes decide to play narajos and foster, this could take nwo out of the runnings.
blacksheep has two matches left. crush next week. they could go 2-3 or 3-2 also. and final week will be lakeside, and they need a sweep.
crush has to play blacksheep and nwo. if they lose both matches, then all three teams could end up 4-3 for the season.

this divII could go down to games lost.

  7. Did the old guys have to play outside?

Holy crap, isn't that the Acers' first win?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Yeah, they played at Homer Ford. Wins by Ball, Robinson/Scott and Dominguez/Manware for the Acers.

  9. Copperfield Lobsters sweep LLTC-Karl 5-0.

  10. Lesson learned: NO TEAM should ever be taken lightly.

  11. Captains put the freakin scores in !!!!! For the love!!!!

  12. didn't know Hunckler and Green still play tennis?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Based on his results Hunckler doesn't.

    ReplyDelete
  14. what the heck happened to hunckler?

    ReplyDelete
  15. The long drive probably made him sleepy, tired and drained all of his energy for the match.

    ReplyDelete
  16. that's why the home teams have that advantage.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Everyone has a bad day. Give him a break.

    ReplyDelete
  18. freeman will sit you out if you loose for him

    ReplyDelete
  19. Freeman will sit you out if you don't lose for him and he picks up a better ringer. His loyalty only extends to who won the last major zone that is not on his roster.

    ReplyDelete
  20. When you look at Freeman's 4.5 roster, you see a lot of experienced players. All of them have multiple trips to Sectionals and half of them have been to Nationals a couple of times. I don't see that wealth of experience on the other teams.

With that said, on any given day any team can win. But I would rather stock my roster with experience than flash.

  21. Allright, things have set up nicely for us...All we need to do is win our next two matches against the Hurricanes and the Duecebags with a combined score of 9-1 for a spot in the playoffs. Also the Hurricanes have to take care of business against the Duecebags. Someone can correct me if I've done the math wrong.

For any of you who don't know me, you have to read a lot of sarcasm into the previous statement...But we will come out and fight hard.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Dang, forgot that SC and Hurricane's play again...We also need the Hurricanes to beat them 5-0. If anything else comes up, I'll post again.

    ReplyDelete
  23. No shame in losing to Trevino, the guy can play tennis. I heard the score was closer than it appeared because most games went to deuce.

  24. div II

NWO will loose to jv hurricane with henry li, foster, and narajos.

  25. Any news on the odd e-mail from HTA about checking ID's?

I remember a team last summer was accused using illegal players.

Or was this precautionary prior to Playoff's?

    ReplyDelete
  26. make sure you check chantz's id. he surely resembles a girl.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Chancellors were the culprits last year. Not sure who the bad guys are this year.

    ReplyDelete
  28. why didn't henry li play in the line-up. he would have given the cane's b-team a chance

    ReplyDelete
  29. Chancellor's went on to Sectional's didn't they. So it must be a a lot about nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  30. That girl Chantz sure can drink beer.

    ReplyDelete
  31. One, to those dissin' on Freeman's choice of players for his teams - jealousy will eat up your insides. Let it go, beat 'em, change sports, grab a tissue, ....

Two, to the poster at 12:30 and 3:46 - you know you're the same person - you don't "loose" to someone, you "lose." Loose is a reference to something like your bowels.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Yeap, just like how "loose" your a-hole is.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Freeman is all about winning and no loyalty! I mean come on you get a couple Dibuas, a Green, a Puma etc, etc and them mysteriously it "ah Kern, I think we're set this year maybe if you get bumped down to 4.0 I'll give you a call"

    ReplyDelete
  34. Come on guys....Copperfield Lobsters are going to beat these other 4.5 teams....

    ReplyDelete
  35. Copperfield guys are a good group. Donlt think they are ready to be a threat at playoffs. They just don't have the depth of the other teams.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Copperfield does not have the singles fire power that the top teams do. Bergmann is a good player, but not a ringer by any means.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I think most teams in the 4.5 playoffs in Houston will have a shot at taking 3 lines off of any of the other teams. It will be difficult to do over and over but the threat will be there.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Bear Creek will dominate the playoff in 4.0.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Any team w/o at least 1 definite winner singles player will likely not advance past the city. If it happens, they will get killed in Dallas.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Bear Creek does look good. They'll take 1 of Houston's 2 4.0 spots.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Bear Creek has not dropped any singles line this season. Beat a tough Copperfield team and will go into the playoffs as an undefeated divison winner.

Noone is talking about them with all the discussion around Sienna Plantation and 4.0 Hurricanes.

They are no longer the sleepers.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Trevino has been crushing line 2s and a few line 1s during the league, but for him to be consider one of the best 4.5 players in Houston, he needs to beat Hasker and or Dibu; until then he is just an average player.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Looks like Sienna didn't think he could win at line on last week. He might beat Pumma but not Omon or Odion.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Man…You may be one of his 16 victims this year; since he joined the Houston league, his record is 16-4 and 2 out of these 4 losses were in 3 sets, if this guy is consider average, what type of player are you and me?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Trevino is a very solid, higher level 4.5 player. Not sure who is posting that he is average, but he would compete well with anyone in the current summer league (he lost to Carpenter and Dibua in 3 sets, and Dibua and Hasker in 2 sets). All 4 of those guys are considered to be the higher level 4.5 players in Houston. He would definitely be a strong line 2 singles at Sectionals.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Besides he was the finalist on the Gallery Tournament this year.

    ReplyDelete
  47. trevino is a top level 4.5 player. any team would be happy to have him playing for them. omon, odion, hasker are 5.0 players

    period...

    ReplyDelete
  48. Trevino may be a top level 4.5 player. But don't expect him to make a sectionals appearance unless he plays for a team other than Sienna.

    Period !!!

    ReplyDelete
  49. There will be a lot of good players not advancing to sectionals. Also, there have been plenty of top players at every level who have never been to sectionals.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Didn't Trent Broach first play for Jedi Knights (2005 I think). That's how he got in under the radar at 4.5. No one cared or noticed because he was on a losing team. He actually lost (3 setter) to Chance Morgan that year. He self-rated himself 4.5 having never played league or tournaments before.

That's why any legitimately illegal player (haha that sounds strange) should be protested because once they're in the system there's no whining about it if/when they do get on one of the top teams.

    ReplyDelete
  51. What are the big matchups this week?

    ReplyDelete
  52. one of the top matchups this week is the blacksheep vs kingwood. this could potentially be an elimination match for the BS and they lost the first time 3-2. I got kingwood, 3-2 with it coming down to a tiebreaker somewhere.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Do HTA rules apply still in USTA league? One in particular is that in HTA it says that you can sub a player in if a player gets injured, ill, or does not show up prior to any points being played in the match.

USTA says the same thing except for the part about a player not showing up.

This is after the line-ups have been exchanged.

    ReplyDelete
  54. HTA Rules supercede USTA rules

    ReplyDelete
  55. USTA rules always supercede Texas and HTA rules. However, the USTA rules don't address many areas and specifically leave such areas open for the sections and districts to regulate as they see fit. The rules should not be in conflict. The USTA rules are the foundation and the Texas and HTA rules just supplement them.

    ReplyDelete
  56. So long story short you can sub someone else into the line-up IF the person on the line-up sheet DOESN'T show up???

    ReplyDelete
  57. As long as they are there within the default period and a point has not been played.

    ReplyDelete
  58. So, yes technically you could turn in your line up and have someone waiting in the parking lot to jump in when one of your players mysteriously gets injured during warm up.

    ReplyDelete
  59. In the event that 2 teams tie with the same record, what is the tie-breaker for playoffs?

In what order? Individual wins, head/head?

    ReplyDelete
  60. Individual wins is obvious if there is a tie. It goes:

    sets lost
    games lost
    head to head

    ReplyDelete
  61. so who won? morales or sarosh

    ReplyDelete
  62. wow, so head/head is the 4th tie-breaker?

Is HTA taking their rules from the BCS?

    Longhorns got rooked!!!

    ReplyDelete
  63. Here is what I have, I wonder what #5 is. Could it be a dance-off?

Procedures in the Event of a Tie. In the event of a tie, whether in round robin or single elimination competition, the tie shall be broken by the first of the following procedures that does so:
    1) Individual Matches. Winner of the most individual matches in the entire competition.
    2) Sets. Loser of the fewest number of sets.
    3) Games. Loser of the fewest number of games.
    4) Head-to-Head. Winner of head-to-head match.
    5) A method to be determined by the championships committee

    ReplyDelete
  64. sarosh won easily. miguel choked.

    ReplyDelete
  65. #5 is usually a coin toss believe it or not. Hypothetical. What if there is a 3-way tie? Use a 3-sided coin?

Why are we griping about a rule that has been in place since forever. Seems this subject comes up year after year. Yes, head to head is 4th on the list. So deal with it and quit complaining or take up bowling.

    ReplyDelete
  66. That would suck for Black Sheep if NWO made the playoffs after they won twice against them.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Is that true that Sarosh has beaten Morales? did they get a lines person?

    ReplyDelete
  68. to my knowledge, the match between Morales and Sarosh has not been completed.

    team member.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Sarosh and Miguel have not finished their match yet. They hope to finish it within the next week.
