Nearing the Finish Line

Most of the playoff races have been decided, but there are a few important matches as the season enters its penultimate week.

In 5.0, the Met team is fighting for second place and faces a Copperfield team coming off a surprising loss while Willowfork has a virtual walkover in the Upsetters, who will try to live up to their name.

In 4.5, Alain Tran's Deucebags will need a blowout against Sienna. He'll need a stronger lineup than the one he had the last time he visited the Top Spinners. Meanwhile, Ken Douds' Sugar Creek team will be trying to take as many lines as possible against the Hurricanes in case Miguel Morales does end up beating Sarosh Ahmed.

Kingwood plays the Black Sheep this week. Again, every line or every set may end up being very important. No Way out faces the Hurricane B team.

Copperfield's 4.5 team has a gimme this week and Ssshhhwings are off.

It looks like the 4.5 playoffs are probably going to be round robin. Hopefully all of the captains will be honorable and continue playing hard even if mathematically eliminated. I think they will.

In 4.0, Lost Forest plays the Rolido Boys, who still have a mathematical chance of making the playoffs and will be eliminated with a loss.

Sienna has added another player, Thi Huu Bui, for this week's "big" match against the Acers. I'll be surprised if the Acers make the trip down there, to be honest.

Chancellor's, Lakeside and the Smokers all have fairly easy matches this week, and all shold be looking to sweep. If they do, the Chancellor's will have to avoid a loss of 4-1 or 5-0 next week against the Smokers or they could be on the outside looking in after being comfortably atop the division all year.

Bear Creek and the Copperheads both complete their season tonight with things wrapped up.

  1. Did 5.0 Hurricanes lose just a line or a match? Results aren't posted.

  2. They lost the match.

  3. does anyone know who played and scores? Obviously CField slacked since they have it locked.

  4. Thanks for biting the bullet Thi. We needed just one more player to make our team complete. (LOL)Congrats on the baby.

  5. I'm sure the other 25 folks on the roster were happy to see a 26th player come on board.

  6. 26 players on a team is crazy....A few players deserve a refund from the captain. Start a second team next season and kick some butt...

  7. I did not know Thi was using his pecker...

  8. I don't see any way Chancellors and the Smokers make it into the playoffs. If Chancellors takes at least 2 lines then they'll make the playoffs. Lakeside is practically guaranteed a spot. Smokers would have to win 4-1 or better to kick Chancellors out and ensure they get in. This might be the tighest race I've ever seen in league tennis.

  9. I see an upset with Hurrican JV vs the NWO.

  10. the only way hurricane jv can beat nwo is if they have: narajos, foster, and li. that's all up to freeman if he wants to spoil nwo's playoff chances. however, last week, hurricanes jv gave the blacksheeps 5 wins and two of them are defaults. "COLLUSION?"

  11. NWO will stand for "Not Win One" this week. Hurricane Sweep

    ReplyDelete
  12. That was a ridiculous line up that Hurricane 2 had last week. Not fair if they load up this week.

    ReplyDelete
  13. thats an interesting conspiracy theory considering the canes jv BEAT the ws black sheep the 1st time by adding foster last minute and playing their best lineup of the year. lol

    ReplyDelete
  14. If NWO can't beat the Hurricane JV best lineup then they don't deserve to make the playoffs.

  15. Tru dat. Then again, Black Sheep lost to them too. One team should make playoffs in that division. Put Sienna in instead!

  16. sienna sucks. but so do the sheep and NWO.

  17. Any girls on this blog?

  18. is morales and sarosh finally playing today?

    any thoughts on
    blacksheeps vs kingwood?
    duecebags vs sienna?
    hurricanes vs sugar creek?

    kingwood 3-2
    sienna 3-2
    hurricanes 4-1

  19. I predict Bradley takes out Phan if they play today. Phan has seen better days.

    kingwood 3-2
    deucebags 4-1
    hurricanes 4-1

  20. Phan will beat Bradley even if he is rusty. Kingwood Crush will be at sectionals again this year. They may not do any damage but they will bring the alcohol.

Hurricanes 4-1 is not likely. All year long it's been hurricane this and that. They are an average team.

  21. Kingwood are scrubs and has-beens. They were afraid to play round-robin in city playoffs.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Is this true that Kingwood is not in favor of the round robin?

If yes, does that mean the 4.5 City playoffs will be the old format and not the 6 team round robin?

    ReplyDelete
  23. the round robin format is just time consuming for busy people, 5 days of tennis...

hurricanes will win anyways, while the other 5 teams will have to compete for the second spot

    ReplyDelete
  24. kingwood knows that their only chance is one lucky match. it might be embarassing if they come in 4th place in the round robin

    ReplyDelete
  25. Assuming a six team round robin, for the 4.5 group list the teams results, i.e. who will win, second, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I think the majority of teams were in favor of the round robin format. I would hope that a majority vote would be enough to make the change.

I doubt Kingwood is "afraid" of the format, they just aren't in favor of it (if thats even true). That being said, I really hope it goes to a round robin so that we can get more matches in and accurately determine the best teams. I think the RR is by far the best way to do just that.

  27. The old format works for the city championship but there should be an added "playback" to determine 2nd place. The winner of each sub- group plays for 1st as usual. The loser of that match should then play the 2nd place team from the winner's group with the winner of that match claiming 2nd place. That way no team can complain that they got screwed by being placed in the strongest team's sub-group. The matter will be totally settled on the court -- no excuses.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I like the playback idea for 4.0. I guess we'll never know what woulda' happened between Sienna and Chancellor's last year. Plus, nowadays some teams ease up in the finals or even throw them if they wanna' get into an easier flight in Dallas.

    ReplyDelete
  29. i think kingwood is not in favor of it, because that's just too much tennis and all that beer drinking in 100+ degress does not help.

    ReplyDelete
  30. does anyone know if the format change will be decided by a majority? If most teams are in favor, they should make the change

    ReplyDelete
  31. since this rr format is new, then it might have to be unanimous. there's a big difference between playing 2 other teams compared to 5. this is when a deep team like the hurricanes have this advantage.

  32. apparently Thi has a pecker and is a real boy ... who would have known ??? ... WOW, all this time we thought Thi was a ugggly girl.

    ReplyDelete
  33. "no value added"
why add another mediocre player to the Sienna 100+ players ... what about the existing players that did not even get to play yet ??
    $$ back pls $$

    ReplyDelete
  34. Thi has recent wins over some of the top players in Sienna so he is hardly mediocre. Also, perhaps he is a hermaphrodite and has both male and female genitals.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Thi won his doubles match in his Sienna debut. He played like a Zen Master. Word on the street is that Sienna is planning to recruit his brother, Thi Thi.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Thi is the best player Sienna 4.0 have. Last year, He won the National Boys 12 yrs old and under. He will compete in the 13 yr old this year and will dominate. Very proud of thi thi

    ReplyDelete
  37. Thi is loud and obnoxious for a little boy. You need coaching from big american man.
