Week Three Rained Out

Obviously last night's matches were a washout. Even the indoor teams were playing on the road.

The roster movement this week was minimal. In 4.0, Lakeside further strengthened its roster by adding Carl Poston, who has been a solid member of their team in past seasons. Lakeside is definitely in contention to win the City Championship. In 4.5, Ssshhhwing attempted to strengthen its singles weakness by adding former Mob Squad member Danny Vu. Surprisingly, none of his former teammates have landed on league rosters. In 5.0, Lost Forest looked to regain its spot at the top by signing up Nico Heidari. Nico went 6-1 at #1 singles in 2005, so he'll definitely help. Heidari lost a 3 setter to Vinny Pandit in the first round of the Coke this year...they may have a rematch in 5.0 league this season.

One last note: John Kudrick wanted to pass along a reminder about the Copperfield Adult Levels Open which will take place on May 18-20th. The deadline for entering is May 11th. Tournament information can be found here.

  1. At 6:45 our courts were perfectly dry; the radar showed the rain just south of Copperfield and we thought we'd be fine. A few weeks ago our singles team was rained out at Memorial but played at Copperfield.

The Hangovers showed up just before 7:00 and the deluge began.

Our apologies to these guys for having to come out and then not play. We appreciate the effort and we owe you some beers next time we see you.

  2. With the addition of Danny Vu to shwing it automatically pushes them to another level. Now if only their jackass cap would learn how to put out the right line up they will make some noise.still many good 4.5 players that have not signed up. Don't be surprised to see Red Benson sign with his buddy Green's team

  3. Red is a very good player and such a nice guy. Every team he is on seems to have great success.

But he told me he is only playing 5.0 this year.

  4. Is that really such a surprise that every team he's on does well?

  5. Benson is not that good. He has a rotten backhand. He always picks a partner to carry him. David Wanja was a division one college player and they still went 2-2 at Sectionals last year.

  6. Does anyone know why the Mob squad has not joined in the 4.5 league race yet ? Assuming the duo of Pham/Tran and Chang/Lieu where to join some team the 4.5 race would be even more wide open. Not to mention the addition of Rodrigo Gonzalez and Steve Phan in singles. Its a scary thought but these six players could make an automatic impact to the league !!

  7. Houston has had some great 4.5 teams over the years but they will not have a team in the Final Four at Sectionals. Austin, Dallas , San Antonio and Fort Worth should be considered the Frontrunners.

  8. Be thankful those guys are not playing. They are bad news. We need to keep our leagues nice and respectful.
