We had a fun night out at LLTC last night. Chancellor's and The Hurricane 4.0 team matched up again. Both teams were loose, as most figured that the teams were playoff-bound, win or lose. Chancellor's is a likeable bunch and I'll be rooting for them in the playoffs.
As it turned out, we pulled out a 3-2 win. Again, it could have gone either way. Arata Yamaguchi squeaked out a win over crafty Cuong Truong to provide the margin of victory. There were multiple representatives from other playoff teams "scouting". I doubt they came away impressed, as there was some spotty tennis going on and the match didn't quite have playoff intensity.
In another 4.0 matchup where both teams should feel good about their playoff chances, The Good Guys took out RPM 3-2 last night at Memorial. Word on the street is that there were some impressive looking doubles teams in that matchup.
It looks as though the Sienna Aces and Pecan Grove played two matches yesterday. I am assuming that one of them was a continuation???? If that is the case, I have a question: How did Baton Rouge native and recently added Nicholas Lucidi get into both matches? I'm not making accusations...I haven't watched their roster closely enough to know when he was added, but it sure looks fishy. Perhaps someone can enlighten me.
Lakeside 4.0 stumbled and lost its second line of the year last night.
The Deucebags got a walkover against the Ball Busters the other night. I believe the Busters defaulted two lines last night. Is it me, or have there been more unplayed lines in 4.5 this year than in years past?
The Blast took down Chancellor's 4.5 3-2. Nice win for Hung Nguyen over Greg Medford.

It looks to me that Chancellor's 4.5 team will miss the playoffs now. With Sugar Creek having its last two matches against Sweetwater, it's hard to see them dropping any lines, thereby finishing ahead of Chancellor's (who also get to beat up on Sweetwater in their finale).
ReplyDeleteSugar Creek would be wise to pound Sweetwater into submission if possible, increasing their games won percentage.
I was out at LLTC last night and I must be honest I was not impressed with either 4.0 teams. Hurricanes "Heavyweight" Kristi Yamaguchi barely beat the very weak Cuong Truong. Anyone who loses to Cuong and his 3.0 strokes need to try another sport. Bao Hangoc showed he is not even close to being a singles threat last night as Danny Vu played with him like his name was James Bui (in a real match). What was the Chancellors captain thinking? Putting him in singles and then putting Minh Hoang aka Short Round in doubles? Although they won 2 out of 3 lines in doubles, those matches were horribly played. There line 1 doubles is a borderline 3.5 team. Charlie Jones showed everyone that not only is he not a singles player but he also isnt a doubles player. This guy sucks ass
ReplyDeleteAnyone know who won the Scwhings/Blacksheep match? The winner can take control and win that flight, the loser has to fight everyone else for a wild card.
ReplyDeleteKristi Yamaguchi is a guy or girl? LOL
ReplyDeleteChancellor 4.5 is a disappointment this year (and upcoming years). Mis-management of good player put them in the predicament they are in now. I'm predicting defecting of their top player(s) to other teams next summer. Are they just over-hyped and under-delivered.
ReplyDeleteI was another scout and both teams looked very weak (chancellors and hurricanes). I don't know why people are complaining about about 4.0 bump ups to 4.5 when it should be 4.0 bumped down to 3.0/ 3.5.
ReplyDeletechancellors 4.5 is the biggest flop of the season. all that hype and smack and they dont even make the playoffs. hung nguyen is the hero of that team. james bui should just curl is tail and run away from competition. after his shellacking from taylor, he was a no show against titans and blast. who would want this guy on their team. dbags got the last laugh from the split. they actually won their division
ReplyDeleteYea yea yamaguchi sucks he should be 3.5
ReplyDeleteGUILLA
I heard the Unicorns are saving Timothy "Sandwich Blasting" Russell for the playoffs.
ReplyDeleteThat short asian kid who dismantled the black guy got dismantled by a shorter asian guy in doubles last night.
ReplyDeleteMaybe those guys that defected from the Deucebags should of stayed with a proven winner. Enjoy sitting at home and eating your Raman noodles while we sweat it out at Citywide!
ReplyDeleteI was a "spectator" as well, and yes there were a couple of weak players but I don't expect to see them come playoff time. Are those teams weaker than last year? Yes, but so are we all. Those two should make it to Sectionals (but not Nationals) if they can field their strongest teams.
ReplyDeletePhil why dont you make that comment in person instead of hiding behind a computer with your cracker ass
ReplyDeleteThanks 10:00 for impersonating me with that racist comment. I hope that was fun for you.
ReplyDeletePK
Why the bashing of James Bui? Although he no-show after the Taylor whipping. He might have other reasons? (injury, or ego reconciliation)? Yes dugasbag got the last laugh, betrayal is a bitch!!! "Betryal is the only truth that sticks." - Arthur Miller
ReplyDeleteThey should make it so you cant be a 4.0 if you are under 5 ft or over 250 lbs.
ReplyDeleteJames Bui thinks he is much better than his actual skill level. That's why some people bash on him. However, he is a pretty solid kid and a lot of people are just jealous of him.
ReplyDeletedumbarse you posted with your name....so ill be on the look out for you next time and ill bet you wont say that stuff to my face
ReplyDeleteWho is the dumbarse and who are you looking out for? And what are the stipulations to this said wager?
ReplyDeleteSSSccwwwiiing beat Westside last night 3-2. But Westside beat Sssccwwiingg on Monday night in a rain makeup 3-2, so they split for the season. Sssccwwing will complete the match with Katy Taylor in about a week and a half, and then play them again on the final Thursday of the season. Ssswwwwing has their own destiny in their hands.
ReplyDeleteThis is Timothy Russell. We are going to dominate come playoff time.
ReplyDeleteChancellors better have their Vietnamese sandwiches on hand, because I'm ready to blast that shit.
So much time has passed, and not a peep about Pete Rios? What has this blog come to...?
ReplyDeleteHey Sandwich Blaster, I bet you were tanking your ass off against Sienna?
ReplyDeleteWhat the hell was Yamaguchi doing in the first set against Cuong? Play really well for a few games. Play really badly for a few games. On top of that he was smiling the whole time. Seemed like a tank job to me.
ReplyDeletePhillip Yang
ReplyDeleteGUILLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATINE
Pete is old news. It's been established and re-established he's all flash and no substance. Big time choker who can't handle the big points or big matches. Why do we keep having to talk about it.
ReplyDeleteCaptain Joe did a great job in 4.5. This is his first yr as a captain and he built an undefeated team. Go BLAST!!!
ReplyDeleteYa'll miss me or my awesome tennis? Didn't you see me whipping the chancellor boys into submission. - Pete "the dude you can't beat"
ReplyDeleteCap'm Luis sabotaged his 4.5 team so he could play with his 4.0 brothers. LOL
ReplyDeleteDat's a great guy and has done very well for us in the past. We miss having him and Hung on our team and would welcome them back to the squad anytime.
ReplyDeleteShort Asian guy
I wanted to play Pete Taylor last night but my dog ate my homework
ReplyDeleteI hope you guys know that, next to being a great tennis player, James-All-Dat-Bui also has to take care of a great career. Studying and tennis don't really get along too well.
ReplyDeleteHe is a loser.
ReplyDeleteLay off of James, he doesn't talk crap and he is a good player. This year he didn't do as well as he did when played on the DuceBags team.
ReplyDeleteWe all have responsibilities, don't use studying as an excuse for why you choke in big matches. Just don't play if you can't handle it.
ReplyDeleteWe all have responsibilities, don't use studying as an excuse for why you choke in big matches. Just don't play if you can't handle it.
ReplyDeleteSienna and Pecan Grove played 10 matches last night... one was a rain makeup. Nothing fishy there Greg.
ReplyDeleteSienna sucks! They will not even make the playoffs. If they do, they will lose on Thursday evening.
ReplyDeleteBabu for President!
ReplyDeletey'all better not disqualify me or all hell will break loose. i brought the unicorns to the mothafking top!!
ReplyDeleteGUILLA!
Hence, he didn't play the big matches anymore. So unlike some people if you can't take the heat get out of the kitchen. Cancer-lor get it?
ReplyDeleteRead my lips
ReplyDelete@11:34:
ReplyDeleteYou know the difference between a hooker and LeBron?
Hookers don't choke, when it comes to big things.
@1:07.. everything is fishy about that!!! The guys from Pecan Grove had to get back to the senior citizens home by 9PM let alone play back to back matches!! If it was different players in each of the 10 matches then maybe... but it was many of the same guys playing in the 2nd match...
ReplyDeletejames was supposedly the best one on chancellors. how can you lead a team, when you dont even show up? that means you are not a leader and never will be. there are about 30 other players on your roster that's depending on you to go out and try to win. if you dont think that you can play singles that night, then play doubles, it's that simple. jannuzzi retired sarosh last year and now taylor retired james.
ReplyDeleteand now januzzi should retire.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous retired Taylor.
ReplyDeleteWhat about the Huy Nguyen guy, wasn't he better single play than James Bui? What happen to the other Bui on LCC? Haven't heard any wise crack about him lately.
ReplyDeleteLet's all retired; so the 3.5 sandbaggers to dominant Houston tennis world.
Januzzi lost to Henegan; so technically Henegan have a win on all the players that Januzzi beat.
ReplyDeletethe other bui has been quiet this summer, but seems to be doing ok, 4-0. one win against a 5.5 dq'd player.
ReplyDeleteThe 4.5 Chancellors team was suppose to be the second coming of the Mob Squad except these new guys can't even make it to the playoffs.
ReplyDeleteWhat? The Mob were underachievers too! With their talent they shouldve gotten to Nationals at least once
ReplyDeleteThe Pecan Grove guys stayed till almost 11pm. They got a pass from the senior home.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see Quack Bui play Troy Gore, would be a long match!
ReplyDeleteThe mob squad made it to sectionals every year they played. They were overachievers
ReplyDeleteI would have to agree the MS not only wouldve killed the 4.5 Chancellors team, they wouldve destroyed every 4.5 team in the league right now
ReplyDeletebetter check that...don't think Mob Squad made it every year! Ask HTown.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure that's accurate. Please verify Greg
ReplyDeleteI don't know if that is true but those guys were all stand up guys. Class act all the way around. They would kick the shit out of Chancellors
ReplyDeleteA public service announcement for Jason and Red: 3.5 recruiting list: http://bit.ly/mtHERk
ReplyDeleteWant to congratulate you gentleman for leaving pete "the dude" rios in the dust. I am proud of this blog for moving on and I hope we can now find another douchebag to verbally wail on. Any rankings for that? Hate to admit it but count on this blog to give me at least one chuckle a week, maybe even a tear in the eye from laughter..well done gents
ReplyDeleteHow about Tim "Sandwich Blaster" Russell?
ReplyDeleteOMFG who the Fudge is this Sandwich Blaster????
ReplyDeleteDoes he work at SubWay or something?
i agree with 10:07. "Betryal is the only truth that sticks." - Arthur Miller
ReplyDeletecan the dbags even beat the other divisions?
dbags have already claimed their victory by beating copperfield and making it to playoffs without a top singles player, which is very impressive. without two reliable singles, they will not be competitive against other div. seeing chancellors not making playoffs is also a victory for dbags.
ReplyDeleteI know a lot of those asian guys who were dbags left the team because of dbag tran, Its not about winning all the time sometimes you just don't want to hear it anymore from the biggest dbag Tran
ReplyDeleteChancellors
Miguel Morales should be playing singles for the dbags. What are they thinking with that kind of player at their disposal?
ReplyDeletedbags are too weak for the city, oh yah they do have minimee tran
ReplyDeleteMiguel Morales is my homeboy
ReplyDeleteMiguel is my inspiration
ReplyDeletethe senior citizens team is my inspiration!
ReplyDeletedbags played a great season, but they are out of their league in the playoffs. The two top teams in my opinion are Lakeside and the Blast with teh Blast having a slight edge.
ReplyDeleteMedford has been exposed as a fraud.
ReplyDeletethere is no shame losing to hung. hung is a good player. medford is more effective in doubles. blast will have to win 2 of 3 line of dubs, cuz line2 singles is weak. impressive season for blast, well deserved
ReplyDeletei agree. hung is a great player. blast will have to step it up!
ReplyDeleteJust took a look at 4.5 Division 2 standings. Schwingg and Taylor have a beautiful opportunity to screw the Black Sheep.
ReplyDeleteIf Schwingg, Taylor and Sheep all end at 6-2, Sheep will almost certainly win the division and the second place team will be left out of playoffs due to poor games won percentage.
Schwingg and Taylor should agree to play their match this week and then have the losing team default/tank the completion of the previously suspended 6/2 match so one of them is assured of ending at 7-1 and winning the division.
am i the only one getting the sexual innuendo here? yikes!
ReplyDeleteWard, were you looking at mini-Hung?
ReplyDeleteminime? is the tran again that you guys are talking about? pretty accurate with the description and he also has a mini game
ReplyDeleteWTF, I think the Unicorns, Hurricanes, and Ace Kings all wanna be like Freddie. Post your scores.
ReplyDeleteHere's a thought we all know Hurricanes beat Chancellors Thursday, then why aren't the scores posted? Hmmm, maybe they want to doctor the game count later to get their friends into the playoffs. HTA do everyone a favor and mandate that all completed matches be entered within 48 hours of the match or the home team defaults all 5 lines 6-0....
Exactly if nobody follows the rules we need to penalize them and yes the whole match should be on the team that doesn't post the scores within 24 hrs.
ReplyDeletehuh?
ReplyDeleteLOL, I am touched that you think that the HTA cares about your opinions. You ain't seen nothing yet. The HTA is utterly corrupt and unless you are on the inside you won't even understand what I am saying. When the end of the season arrives and your team gets screwed, you'll understand what I am talking about.
ReplyDeleteHow can you expect the HTA to enforce the rules? Freddy is the League Committee chair, and he is the worst offender. Cheryl is not bright enough to see a problem; unless you are whining from the Racquet Club of Houston. Randy, Emily, & Bev (HTA Executive Committee) know nothing and care about less. A quick example of the HTA's competence from the HTA website is the President (2nd term) name: "Raqndy Ortwein"
ReplyDeleteI think you idiots sound like sore losers. Like anyone would fix the scores. It's just tennis. Work on that weak ass game and quit thinking everyone is out to get you.
ReplyDelete"Like anyone would fix the scores." That statement clearly demonstrates that you don't have a clue about what is going on in league right now.
ReplyDeleteSince it's not my mission to educate fools, you are free to continue in your dream world.
Let's see: HTA set idiotic policy in which percentage of games won decides wildcards. Now, everyone is surprised that captains might be tempted to pad scores to help their friends score a wildcard berth.
ReplyDeleteFabricating a totally fake match score is tricky because it involves lots of people playing along who might not like their victory being reported as a loss. Reporting a 6-2, 6-1 result as 6-4,6-3 and helping the loser get a wildcard berth requires only two complicit captains.
Exactly, that is a reason that matches won, lines won and sets won are used as tiebreakers in all championship-level USTA events. Any fool can fudge on games won; lying on about matches won and lines won is much harder. How the HTA settled on this scheme is beyond me.
ReplyDeleteHTA and Freddy are Asswipes. If Freddy doesn't have to enter his scores... Nobody else has to either.
ReplyDelete"percentage of games won"
ReplyDeleteAnother example how this country is run: by incompetent, uneducated, and corrupt people. It starts with the HTA (that nobody even cares about), and it reaches all the way to the top to Obama.
Padding match scores to be closer than they actually were is a sweet arrangement for both the winners and the losers. Reporting a closer score helps keep the winner from being bumped up and helps the loser's team get a wildcard. It's win/win for the cheaters and lose/lose for the rest of the clueless league.
ReplyDeleteThank you, HTA, for rewarding the cheaters.
Sandwich blaster was seen at a local charity tournament over the weekend and word on the street is that he has it goin on. Hurricaines beware, hide your sandwiches!
ReplyDeleteHey Greg, Lance, and Chris:
ReplyDeleteI thought you guys are all on the HTA Board and League Committee. Any insight about the struggles to get it right by the HTA? I know that Htown has repeatedly said they are getting it right. Do you still feel like that? I hear from 3 or 4 captains that they don't plan to do this anymore. If true, that costs HTA 10-12 teams; because they are sick of the corruption. It is no fun if the deck is stacked against you before you start.
I agree, with others, just play the matches and make your line ups like everyone. How is that a stacked deck. If you know someone is falsified info have your Capt DQ them.
ReplyDeleteI heard that Sandwich Blaster tanked at the local charity tournament.
ReplyDeleteCorruption? That's a strong word, I think.
ReplyDeleteI doubt anyone would say that the actual HTA employees, Cheryl and Diana, are corrupt or biased in their decision-making.
It would be naive of me to say that people on various committees are not swayed by self-interest in their policies and decision-making. I am sure some of them even get into their positions with the intention of helping out their teams, but I would think that is a very small number. The vast majority are just trying to do their part to help out.
The game percentage thing has apparently really struck a nerve with some people. I admit I was surprised when I heard about it. I haven't actually decided if it's a good or bad idea though. I think we would all agree that we're trying to find the best wild-card teams so that we have the strongest field. I don't think any system is going to do this all that well, given the varying strengths of the divisions. It's possible that we could look back on past years and find that there was a good correlation between games won percentage and playoff success or team strength. I have no idea.
With all of the arguing every year about the BCS rankings, it's pretty clear that it's not an easy thing to choose the best wild card teams for the playoffs.
P.S. Is games won percentage the criterion used at Sectionals on those occasions where a wild card team is chosen? I meant to look into it but never did.
My understanding is that the HTA is going by the same guidelines passed down to them by the USTA and the TTA. This leaves out any room for questioning. Like it or not, good or bad, it's what we have to go by and there were no local interests in choosing this method.
ReplyDeleteMy understanding is that this was entirely HTA's decision. I've looked and could find no written guidelines from USTA and TTA suggesting this procedure. Anyone else find something to this effect?
ReplyDeleteif we wanna win we just have to play by the rules of the game.
ReplyDeleteYes, it is up to every city to choose what they will use for determining Wild Cards and the HTA chose what the Section chooses.
ReplyDeleteLeave it on the court. That is all you can do. Im excited to see the singles in playoffs. I've been wrong before, but i'm not sure anyone (including kudrick) can give Pete Taylor a run for his money. He would probably win at sectionals. Way too consistent and has a weapon (forehand)
ReplyDelete@1105p - I was on the board in 2010 and am not this year. I think the league committee did intro some good things (playoffs, etc) and continue to listen to new ways and ideas to make leagues better.
ReplyDeleteWhere I think there is a breakdown is when decisions are just dolled out and no one is consulted - like with Catharine just declared that the spring season would not have any playoffs, this % win thing we are talking about here.
One problem I saw while involved in 2010 is that the folks on the league committee did not actually play league. That seems to be a huge gap in trying to help improve the tennis experience if you are not a constituent.
IMHO they need to float ideas out to folks who would have good feedback Ie -"hey we are thinking about changing such and such, what are your thoughts on this and how would it be perceived?"
It is a volunteer organization so if you want to get involved in some of this stuff (league committee, tourney committee) I am sure they will have a place for you. Most folks are very opinionated until you ask them to get involved in shaping the process and doing something and then they bail.
Just my $02.
The real players don't care about the politics of League but just win. All you have to do is win and it won't matter how the wild cards are calculated or ratings etc...
ReplyDeleteIf you don't like the decision of the HTA then do as Chris said and get on the board. OTherwise STFU.
ReplyDeleteSo who on the list below does not play league?
ReplyDeleteFurthermore, the board members are asked which comittees they would like to be on so it seems unlikely that someone who doesn't play league would be on the Leage Committee.
Denny Dantimo Keri Bassett Nellyn Diaz Laurel
Sharon Evans Catherine Flowers Michael Martinez
Brian Goonan David Frels Shirley Mendoza
William Harmon Jeff Lin Robin Pacholder
Betsie Hollis Allison Pham Marcus Robinson
Brette Machiorlette Lamar Odom Carol St. Clair
Dave Noble Danny Stephens Ed Williams
Ok, i gotta asked a stupid question: why is using match record a bad wildcard criteria? Seens kinda obvious that two teams that are 7-1 (like Dbags and Copperfield) both deserve to go.
ReplyDeleteJust curious, can anyone on the league committee actually confirm that this topic was discussed in league committee? My sources say that this was decided entirely by the HTA staff as Towle alluded.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I think the game win % is a joke. You might have a 8-2 team who battled to win tiebreaker and supers. Then you get 7-3 teams in a weaker division with a higher game win % going to the playoffs over the 8-2 team. What a joke.
ReplyDeleteCheryl subverts the Bylaw provision requiring 2 signatures on checks by using a stamp to sign them. She provides misleading information to members and the board about membership/player statistics. She does not allow public disclosure of or accounting for non-comp disbursements to her. She provides benefits to captains, players, and teams that she likes and attempts to punish those she dislikes. Other than those minor examples, no corruption.
ReplyDeleteThis says you are still on the Board Chris:
ReplyDeletehttp://houstontennis.org/Content-Public/Page-Edit/Page.asp?iID=-470878367
5:47 You're an idiot.
ReplyDeletecan we talk about the playoffs???
ReplyDeleteWhy not simply follow the rules, by which the rest of this planet earth goes to determine wild cards:
ReplyDelete1. Total victories
2. Total lines won
3. Total sets won
4. Total games won
* Any default counts as 6:0, 6:0 loss
Any deviation from this system just shows incompetence, laziness, or most likely corruption (why else would anyone not be able to implement something that the other 6.8 billion people are doing?)
This topic is getting older than Pete Rios. Dude, let it go. You've got some kind of paranoid disorder - you think everyone is against you or something. I agree with Greg. No matter what procedure the HTA put into play there will be those who will question it and even more who will find ways to exploit the system.
ReplyDelete6:43... You hit the nail right on the head. Seems like the rule change to game % won is to help benefit several team that even too weak to win their already weak division.
ReplyDeleteSo let's get angry with the cheaters. You seem to be projecting a lot of anger and childhood frustrations onto the wrong person.
ReplyDeleteIt's like being mad at the gun legislators instead of the guys who pull the trigger. You're a F'ing idiot.
ReplyDeleteOk, let's talk 4.5 playoffs. Seems to me that there are 5 clear cut playoff teams.
ReplyDeleteLakeside, Hurricanes, Dbags, Copperfield, Blast
Based on record and playing strength, the contenders for the remaining spots are:
Coaches, Schwinggg, Taylor, Black Sheep, Sugarcreek
Finally, due to using percentage of games won, everybody's favorite beating boys, the Big Bangers, also enter the picture. (Note that the Bangers would get crushed by any of the teams above in a head to head match. Way to work the system, Freddie!)
My prediction based on schedules is that
Schwinggg, Taylor and the Banger will be in the playoffs. Leading to two pools
Lakeside, Blast, Schwinggg, Bangers
and
Hurricanes, Dbags, Copperfield, Taylor
The gun legislator and the guy pulling the trigger is the same guy you f'ing idiot
ReplyDelete8:02, good evaluation.
ReplyDelete4:28, taylor has beaten jim, james and almost lost to huy. these are all good line2 summer league singles player. kudrick would have demolished all of them. it would be a great match to watch, but kudrick would easily take it. taylor will still have to face the other top guys like hess, puma, quack. i predict he will be 2-2 in playoffs
Babu for president
ReplyDeleteI think Babu will be 4-0 this coming playoffs
ReplyDeleteHey Guys, I mean girls stop whining dbags all the way to state, good luck to the second place team
ReplyDeleteDbag
9:01, what you have to remember is that Taylor is an "s" rated player and I am sure there is some fabrication going on there. The Kudrick\ Taylor matchup needs to happen in the playoffs for either one of them to be tested.
ReplyDelete8:02, I like the evaluation but I believe Sugar Creek gets in over the Bangers. Bangers will lose to Clambakes in second go around
Does anyone know the flights for Sectionals and/or Wildcards
ReplyDeleteI got $5 on Isner vs. Mahut going 7:6,6:7,7:6,6:7,100:98
ReplyDeleteNah, no way Mahut can last to more than 90-88 in the 5th.
ReplyDeleteThe better question is: Singles on grass, Henegan or Januzzi????
6:43 Only one problem, (In 4.0) we have one division that is playing 8 matches versus the 10 matches for the other 5 divisions, therefore your entire rating scale is skewed by using totals, thus the reason to go to a % calculation.
ReplyDeleteBut I agree,
Team Win %
Indiv. Matches Win %
Sets Win %
Games Win %
Coin Flip
would do the trick....
8:01 - I think you hit the nail on the head for HTA's % calculation, not every team will have the same amount of matches or play the same teams twice in the flight.
ReplyDeleteLook at how the 5.0 league played out. How happy would the 4.0 and 4.5 teams be if that same situation happened?
ReplyDeleteI really think Taylor is managing his scores a bit. I just can't see him going 2-2. WHo would beat him?? Puma, Quack? I just dont see him losing a set to either one of those guys. Also, looked at teh results for Tyler...Rios played a very tight match against Merrit who went to the finals of the Coke. I don't mena to bring up Rios again, but he is a definite Line 2 threat.
ReplyDeleteKudrick would win against Taylor and Hess might win. As for Rios there are so many players that can beat him at line 2. Quack and Puma would def beat Rios.
ReplyDeletehey rios, stop talking about yourself. this is summer league not tourney. the level is much higher. you will not win one singles match in playoffs.
ReplyDeletePete is a great player. He and Pumma have played a great number of practice matches. Let's just say it's not a foregone conclusion who would win.
ReplyDeletegreat player?....really? practice matches are for "practice". who has he beaten in 4.5? he'll get slapped around when it comes to city playoffs. blast will end up 4th or 5th place.
ReplyDeleteCan anyone beat Danny Vu is 4.0? Seems like there aren't many 4.5's who could beat him.
ReplyDelete11:32 is ridiculous. Taylor will get slapped around? There might be two (max) players who I would think might (MIGHT) beat him.
it was referring to pete rios, not pete taylor
ReplyDeleteSorry, I misread that. Taylor and Pumma have played quite a bit.
ReplyDeleteBabu beat Danny Vu at Memorial Park over the weekend 6-4, 6-3.
ReplyDeleteNo, Danny Vu will dominate all 4.0s.
ReplyDeleteExcept for the Sandwich Blaster... of course.
ReplyDeleteGUILLA
There are two or three guys on the Hurricane 4.0 team that can beat Vu.
ReplyDeleteon 4.5 hurricanes? I know the guys on 4.0 and unless I am missing someone there is not anyone that could likely get a set off of Vu.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know when they will announce who gets the wildcards and what the flights are at sects
ReplyDelete12:42 needs to work on his scouting skills
ReplyDeletedanny vu will not be the hurricane's ace singles guy at the city playoffs....
ReplyDeleteWho will?
ReplyDeleteI think if I were Hurricane's captain this would be my playoff lineup:
ReplyDeleteSingles:
1) Boone
2) Rios
Doubles:
1) Halani/Yamaguchi
2) Vu/Johnson
3) Dwyer/Mandell
What's everyone else think, what about the other top teams?
Your momma @ 1:03pm
ReplyDeleteno way, rios will be playing for blast.
ReplyDeleteAre you on crack? No way can Rios beat Vu. Also, what about Halani. Saw him playing the other night. He's a play maker. I think that post was Freeman trying to throw off the comp.
ReplyDeleteQuestion: If a player declares for the Noho team can they still play in the Houston playoffs since Noho doesn't have a local championship.
ReplyDeleteBeinart at line 1 singles. Halani looked awful over the weekend at some charity tournament.
ReplyDeleteWhat about Babu? Will he be back from Wimbledon for the June 30 match?
ReplyDeleteLOL.. 1:19 doesn't know a lineup if he puts Boone as 1 singles. Boone is no good.
ReplyDeleteBoone? Halani? Niether of those guys would get a set off of Vu. THis blog is losing cred. Beinart??? Someone please help me make sense of this???
ReplyDeleteBeinart is literally the worst on the 4.0 hurricanes roster...
ReplyDeleteThe only certainty is that the sandwich blaster will turn Vu into banh mi
Halani can hang with Vu on a good day. Boone may not be able to beat Vu, but he matches up favorably vs 90% of the top 4.0's out there even on good teams. Plus it's about a good lineup, not necessarily top guy on top line.
ReplyDeleteLakeside lineup seems more straightforward. They are a deep team as well, but the top lines aren't as good as hurricanes:
Singles:
1) Etienne
2) Salihu
Doubles:
1) Kerig/Marks
2) Arend/Rutherford
3) Pascual/Mitchener
Unicorns will rule! We will end the Hurricaines' dominance. Sandwich Blaster over Vu, 6-2, 6-0.
ReplyDelete3:41 , try 6-0, 6-0. Tim Russell has been tanking hard and is ready to unleash his true skills during playoffs.
ReplyDeleteHey Pete are you alson with a 5.0 contender team this season? seems like your 4.5 and 4.0 is doing great because of you
ReplyDeleteI'm actually going on the pro tour soon.

I don't understand all this Sandwich Blaster talk. Is the Sandwich Blaster even a starting player? I have not seen him play, but based on records he doesn't look very formidable. He did start in one of the Unicorns big matches, but he was the only player on the team to lose that match.
ReplyDeleteHas he beaten Vu or other top flight guys outside of league play? Where is all the hype coming from?
What's the line on a match between Tim Russell and Pete Rios? I hear they are both the best.
ReplyDelete3:52, you won't know the true blasting power of Russell until you face him on the court. You can't trust records since all of the powerhouse teams manage scores anyways.
ReplyDeleteHe has not played any of them because he does not waste time with scrubs.
Ugly game, great competitor.
beinart would beat the sandwich blaster. his game is uglier.
ReplyDelete@3:57 did he play college ball? Google searches don't show much. Someone with that name was VP of Advertising for the tennis channel. Who is Tim Russell?
ReplyDelete4:00, Beinart is fat and has a terrible game. He is honestly a decent 3.5 level competitor now. How he was rated 4.5 in the past is beyond me.
ReplyDeleteWhat is all the talk about Babu? I played him in doubles and he is a decent player, but not a true threat even at 4.0. I think he is a strong doubles player at line 2 or 3 but Im not sure what all the extensive hype is about. Am I missing something? Maybe he had an off night when I played him.
ReplyDelete@4:09 Sometimes fatties are really good at doubles even if they aren't so great at singles. Take the running out of tennis and it's an entirely different game.
ReplyDeleteOkay, but Beinart also has a terrible game. Not good at singles nor doubs.
ReplyDeleteAhh, some Peter Rios smack! I was getting worried about the blog.
ReplyDeleteRios's special tennis "power" is the ability to split sets with any human on the planet, no matter how good (or how bad) they are. If the pro tour goes to 3rd set tiebreakers, Rafa better watch out!
Either that or he is just another hurricane trying to fix his scores.
ReplyDeleteBabu used to play on the tour doubles with mike bryan before bob was born.
ReplyDeleteBob is the older twin.
ReplyDeleteI know Babu quite well. He does not take league too seriously, and quite often gets bored during matches - watch him play right handed (he's a lefty)
ReplyDeletetimothy russell spanked vu 6-2 6-2 at the courts near sugarland middle school a while back. it might have been 2 years ago.
ReplyDeleteand yeah, go by the records and yall will be in for a real surprise when playoffs come. timothy russell #1 stunna.
ReplyDeleteGUILLA!
Sandwich Blaster Sucks right now I saw him play at the charity tourney, but I hear he used to be super cold, he is dumb fast but has no groundstrokes to backup his speed, I saw one point where he did like 5 perfect hard court slides, dude is like a fucking gazelle. He is an average 4.0 in my opinion. Also he is a bit of a showoff(Monfils Style) he seems to try and go for the most difficult shots for no apparent reason. He was set up for an overhead on a breakpoint and opted for the tweener instead.
ReplyDelete@ 6:26
ReplyDeletemaybe a down the line or cross court forehand/backhand is too easy for him? you want to work on the shots you are weak at...timothy russell is above the average 4.0 player. i hear he is going to get bumped up after this season.
Tim Russell Here, this will be the first and last time I post on this blog, I am not at the level of play I want to be at and honestly I am nothing to be afraid of, I probably will not play playoffs honestly, so all sandwiches will be safe for the time being, I wish you all luck against the Unicorns, my team mates are very strong and capable of defeating any 4.0 team.
ReplyDeleteI nominate Tim Russell as the new Pete Rios.
ReplyDeleteMy game is a bit rusty because I have been working with my brother Mike Russell. My level will improve; because Mike lost to Rafa today. Now I will be able to focus on my own game instead of coaching him.
ReplyDeleteRios sucks balls
ReplyDelete@ 9:07
ReplyDeleteyou deserve a sandwich to the face for that one.
rofl at 9:56
ReplyDeleteanyway....im not on the hurricanes, but would like to nominate the hurricanes for MVP. most valuable pushers...
please delete 6:41, that is not me.
ReplyDelete@June 19, 2011 5:53 PM - I am not active on the board for 2011 simply b/c my name is mis-spelled =)
ReplyDeleteI actually think all of the published meeting minutes are available on the website. The are put there once they are published. I don't think it is some state secret. You can look at them and see what is transpiring in the various committees.
In all honesty adult leagues is not as big as I thought it was when I compared to other things that HTA has ongoing. This caught me by surprise when i first went to the meetings.
If you think it could be done better than tell Cheryl you want to get involved. As I said last time, people tend to get tight lipped when you ask them to help.
But Chris, those same tight lipped folks are COMPLETELY BAD-ASS on this blog.
ReplyDeleteanonymous Baddasses...the more they talk the less they do.
ReplyDeleteBabu sighting this evening... at LA Fitness on Westheimer at 8pm. He is the most interesting man in the world.
