Not much to say

I really have nothing to add, but just felt like putting a new post up.

I'm sure most people were more focused on the NFL draft last night than USTA tennis. Should the Texans go with Derek Carr tonight? I hope people aren't influenced by his brother's stint here. I'm a Texas Ex, but will certainly be pulling for JFF and rooting for the Browns.

There has been only one interesting result posted thus far: Sugar Creek's 4.5 team continued to roll, beating the Deucebags 3-2. The Dbags continue to use Paul Nguyen in singles, and he was trounced by veteran Thach Ho. I'm surprised that they're using Nguyen while they have David Hall playing doubles. Paul may not be a doubles guy, but Hall is clearly a better singles player. Antoine Ford continued to roll. Nice to see Peter Rothe making a big contribution to Sugar Creek.

The 4.0 Hurricanes won 5-0 in Missouri City last night. That's the first time I've played there in years and was impressed with the lighting, especially after playing most of my matches at LLTC. It's a nice facility. The host team was very friendly also. Thanks for the beer and the hospitality.

  1. The Sienna 4.5 team, featuring Father of the Year Ronny Kwan, has stopped tanking for now. Maybe this blog is good for something.

    1. Thanks for getting something up. Your flight is the death flight. I think the three best teams in the city are in the same flight. Thanks HTA!!!

    2. And it's not like Sienna is terrible (at least historically). I feel bad for the Missouri city team we played last night. They're not a bad team, but four weeks into the season they've played Chancellor's, the Unicorns, Sienna and the Hurricanes.

    3. Looks like all the former 4.0 Hurricanes are not playing the last 2 weeks. Father of the Year Ronny Kwan is not even showing up for his team matches.

    4. Ronny is suffering from priapism

    5. Kwan and Boarman really tore it up.

    6. The common denominator in all of this is Freeman.

  2. In other news: if you've ever frequented the often-entertaining Dallas blog, you know that it can be all-Mike-Kelly, all the time. It appears Kelly has been DQ'd after having his 5.0 rating changed to a 4.5 in the offseason, when there were all sorts of rumors about legal action, threats of legal action, etc. Anyway, I'm sure there will be more twists and turns in this one. If PK has the inside scoop, please enlighten us.

    1. I've unofficially and confidentially heard the story behind it. Nothing exciting. Damn. It's been a slow year.

    2. Talked to a guy in Dallas that is pretty plugged in. He said too many nationals players on one roster. The funny thing is the other three were 4.0 40s+ bumpups. Talk about the USTA missing the spirit if the move up/split up rule.

    3. Yeah, that's what I heard also. Sisk is a veteran captain. I'm surprised that slipped past him. But the rules now are crazy, as they count players who went to Nationals in mixed, 40+, etc.

    4. Exactly what happened. Three guys from their 4.0 40+ Nats team, plus Kelly makes four, one too many.

    5. So they get rid of Kelly and keep some 40+ 4.0 bumpups? Really???

    6. Timing is everything. Should have added Kelly third, not fourth. Fourth guy added to the roster is the protestable one.

  3. All them 4.0 Hurricanes from last year just cannot get over there lose at nationals. Bunch of losers.

    1. They may be losers, but I'm guessing they can spell better than you.

    2. Probably play tennis better too.

    3. At least they made it to nationals. A large majority of us never will.

  4. First DQ of the summer season. Michael Sabrsula of 4.0 Westside Ace Reapers double-bumped from 3.5 to 4.5. Surprising, scores don't look that lopsided.

    1. Ah. He was partnered with a 3.5. That will do it when you beat two 4.0s.

  6. Interesting round robin the next three weeks between the unicorns. Chancellors and hurricanes. That flight should be pretty much decided over that. Wouldn't be surprised if it was 1-1 for those teams

  7. Back to Kenya Gillespie and Captain Freddy of the Hulks. Captain Freddy cheated last weak on score reporting. Houston Racquet Club defaulted (no showed) all 5 lines but Captain Freddy reported fake scores including a loss for Kenya Gillespie in order to manage his self rating. Will the HTA step up and take action? Match # 1004130117.

    1. I may be mistaken, but I believe this affects the wild card stuff. I think the wild card is calculated using a percentage of games formula for lines actually played. (unless things have changed. I haven't been paying attention).

In fact, if an entire match was not played, I believe that invalidates all matches that all other teams played against the defaulted team in that round. Again, a rules expert can correct me if I'm wrong.

    2. I see nothing but five defaults in there now. So either it got corrected or 12:59 is having some fun.

What HH says is true, due to the full-team default the Good-er Guys' 4-1 victory over HRC would be erased from the calculations as would Hulks' 5-0 win over HRC (and HFTC's 3-2 win), and the standings/wildcard/tiebreakers recalculated. You won't see this in the TennisLink standings, it'll still show the matches as if they counted. Only slightly confusing.

No, Freddy is not on the league committee anymore. It's an interesting process by which people get appointed and removed from that committee, but that's for another time.

    3. It was definitely reported as 4-1 with Kenya losing. When I saw the results, I knew there was no way that Staley beat Kenya after I witnessed him demolish one of our guys.

  8. Is Freddy still on the HTA board? Is he still chairman of the League Committee?

    /like 10,000 spoons

  9. All the scores are defaults. No drama there.

  10. ^^haha. They were just "corrected", so I applaud the culprits and HTA for fixing this error in JUDGMENT in a timely manner. Now watch Kenya Gillespie get 3 strikes soon.

    ReplyDelete
  11. It was corrected because I saw the same thing. Kenya was reported as a lost last time I saw.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Just want to highlight HTA corrected it after HRC pointed out the error in reporting NOT that Freddy reversed his reporting. Want to give credit where it's due and highlight where it's not.

    1. So Freddy is crooked? I'm shocked. SHOCKED, I tell you.

    2. Freddy is worse than Freeman but Freeman wins so everyone dumps on him and his teammates. Freddy is a Freeman wannabe.

  13. Ok, as a captain in the same division as the Gooder-guys and Hulks, I need a poll to determine which of these teams is disliked more. Perhaps I'll adjust my lineups in the second round-robin accordingly.
