Back to Our Regularly Scheduled Programming

As you know, I'm frantically trying to change the topic from Sydney Jim so that maybe you'll forget about him, so let's take a look at what's remaining in the regular season.

The Deucebags and Good-er Guys reported their 5/30 match score yesterday: a 3-2 Good-er Guys win. The Dbags also reported a 3-2 win over the not-so-incredible Hulks. They have a one game lead with their 4/18 match against Copperfield still to be entered. The Good-er Guys also have a match remaining with Copperfield.

With just one Wild Card in 4.5, the loser of the Dbags/GG division race will have to get past the second place team in the Old School/Hurricanes division. Old School sits at 8-1 and has a big edge with a 34-11 record. If they are swept in their last match and both the Dbags and GG sweep their Copperfield finales, that puts OS at 34-16 and GG at 27-13. Hmmm...I'm figuring this out even as we speak, so I probably have made an error or am not understanding the situation properly, but that would give OS a .680 winning percentage and leave GG at .675.

Has Old School clinched? Of course, the other possibility, unlikely as it may seem, is that Old School beats the Hurricanes in their rematch and also the Hurricanes drop a bunch of other lines in their matches with the Gautamizers and Gypsies, opening the door for the DBags or GG.

The third possibility is that somebody somewhere gets DQ'd and it changes the standings around for one of the aforementioned teams. Again, not very likely.

Somebody correct me if I've made any errors here.

  1. DB and GG will end up with only 1 lost of season. OS will have to beat Canes, and if they do, both teams will have one lost, but Canes will still be in 1st place with more indiviual wins. Win or lose against OS, Canes have already made the playoffs. DB and GG will make playoffs if OS loses.

    1. How can Canes already be in playoffs when they have 3 matches remaining? Technically they could lose all three.

  2. Regarding the Deucebags vs. Hulks makeup: I thought they were in the 3rd set tiebreaker Hulks up 6-5 before they had to postpone. Looks like some shady happenings to me. What really happened and is it legal? Obviously if Deucebags lost it would take their total losses to 2 putting GG's in first place of the flight. Shady.

  4. Copperfield's best isn't very good. Then again neither are the Deucebags.

  5. Who will be Freeman's toughest 4.5 competition at Sectionals? Austin? Dallas? Anyone else?

  6. Gooder Guys, Deucebags and Enter the Unicorns first please.

  7. Speaking of DQs how is the winner of the 4.0 East Texas MZ, Todd Jenkins out of Waco not DQ'd. He has won every match, many at 0,1, or 2 and is not DQ'd?

    1. Tournaments don't generate strikes, only league play does.

  8. ft worth will be toughest

  9. According to Htown, OS has already clinced playoffs, even if GG wins all there matches and OS loses all of theirs.

  10. Check Htown's math. He's a Longhorn, after all.

  11. Htown is wrong. If os loses, their winning percentage based on team matches will be 80%. If gg beat cf, their winning percentage will be 88%. Wildcard is based on overall record first.

  12. i'm not sure about which winning percentage usta will calculate. i think overall win/lose match percentage would be more fair, since div2 div3 have to play 10 matches, having to play two more then div1. that means having their team travel across the city and not have the advantage of the two extra bye weeks.

  13. Is Sydney Jim playing tonight against Old School?

  14. Hurricanes/Freeman got 2 unreported matches... whats up with that? I'm sure Sydney had "played" in at least one of them.

  15. Sidney is an all star in town but when it gets to Dallas he is just another pretty face with a big ego. Hell, if I had somebody footing the bill to travel the world and get my ass kicked on the sattelite circuit I would do it too!

  16. Pretty face???? Have you seen the Kimchi brothers.

  17. Looks like Copperfield won that last 4.0 playoff spot.

Did anyone else play last night. Are people playing cat and mouse with reporting scores?

  18. Wimbledon draws are out. Fed/Rafa in quarters? Murray, Fed and Rafa all on opposite side from Djokovic? Sounds like an easy road to the finals for Nole.

  19. The canes played last night. They are 9-0 and 1-1 vs Nottingham with 3 lines to play.

  20. Did Sidney play?

  21. so... the only team that has not reported all their scores are the Hurricanes... whatever happened to the 24hr rule? 3 unreported matches. greg do you know why?

  22. what happened to the cooper vs cervantez match? something is shady

  23. I assume you're talking about the 4.5 team? I haven't spoken to Freeman in a while, but I don't know if the unreported matches have been completed yet. I don't even know if they finished last night's match since I wasn't out there. I'm not on the 4.5 team's email list, so sometimes I'm not well-informed.

As for Cooper-Cervantez, I'm guessing that 3 lines were won and the other two retired. Maybe time considerations were at work.

I don't know how the computer calculates that one. Does it give Cooper credit for 5 more games (i.e. a 13-7 victory) or does it just go into the computer as 8-7 for ratings purposes. I have to think that Cervantez will be somewhere near the 5.0 mark come November. Who knows, this match might make a difference for him one way or another.

  24. NumbersGuy, can you answer that?

  25. That was the score of our match before the rain came over a month ago. He is not available to play this week or next.

  26. so it comes down to DB again. they will have to swept CF to take the final spot

    1. What's the tiebreaker after individual record? Sets lost, games lost or something else?

If deucebags go 4-1, do good guys get it on sets?

  27. Shouldn't just about all the matches been played by now? What is the hold up on scores?

    1. Check the schedules. Some rainout makeups happening this week.

  28. Only 14 scores not reported in 4.0 and 4.5. Of course 4 of them are Hurricane's. They must get more rain than the rest of us.
