Quick Thoughts...

I don't know the guy, but I think it's time we started giving props to the Sandwich Blaster. Based on his results, his game has improved a bunch.

Herb Morton keeps on truckin'. Nice win for him last night.

Ace N Spinners and Good Guys battle to win their division is something I'm keeping my eye on.

Will Singles be the downfall of the Hurricane 4.5 team?

What happened with Black Sheep and Enter the Unicorn last night?

  1. Tommy R. is what happened to the Black Sheep. Bad captaining.

    1. What was wrong with the captaining? It looks like he gave his team a great shot at winning with the lineup. Just lost 2 of 3 3rd set breakers.

  2. It matches his playing.

    ETU won 3-2 over BS.

  3. There was a huge match in 5.0 last night that HTH didn't mention.

Even more surprising was that Greg Zachary was in the lineup for some reason. They lost, of course.

  4. I'm fully expecting Chris Lee to get three strikes at some point (soon?). That would really change the playoff picture significantly.

    1. He's 3-0 in summer singles but 2 of those have been 3rd set breakers
He's 2-1 in summer doubles in close matches
He was 5-1 in spring singles vs weaker competition

Looks like a top level 4.5, but not out of level to me.

    2. Hinojosa is no ordinary 4.5, should actualy be 5.0 rated

    3. I didn't say he's necessarily out of level (though of course, it's possible), just that the computer tends to be very strict when it comes to self-rates putting up good records in singles. We'll see. I may be wrong. Certainly wouldn't be the first time.

    4. Hinojosa and Lee won the same number of games in the match: 10. Hinojosa hasn't played any USTA matches in 2013, so his rating should be in the 4.0 - 4.49 range. If Chris' rating was already above 4.5 this could still be a strike, but if not this certainly didn't push his rating up.

    5. Someone out there actually knows what they're talking about. Shocking.

    6. I did some calculations, and the computer is currently calculating the dq, he should get dq-ed in the next few days or so.

  5. Sandwich Blaster plays with more heart than anyone else in Houston tennis, and that goes a long ways. I don't see him getting wins over Rossi/Leiker from the canes though. Does it look like the Good Guys will make the playoffs? They lost to Ace N Spinners last night. Their remaining matches include Ace N Spinners, 2x Acers. Those are tougher 4.0 teams. As of now it looks like they won't win their division.

Here's what the wild card standings look like now:

    1. Sienna: 6-1/28-7
    2. Good Guys: 5-1/23-7
    3. Copperfield: 5-1/21-9
    4. JCC: 4-2/22-13
    5. Falcon Pt: 4-2/18-12
    6. Acers: 4-2/18-12
    7. Hawkeyes: 3-2/16-9

Here's what they look like if teams do the same in the 2nd half as the first half (had to make some rain out assumptions):
    1. Sienna: 8-2/37-13
    2. Falcon Pt: 8-2/34-16 (Assumes same score vs Wrangles as Aces/Falcons)
3T. Copperfield: 7-3/33-17 (Assumes split with Hawkeyes)
3T. Good Guys: 7-3/33-17 (Assume split with Acers)
    5. Hawkeyes: 6-4/32-18 (Assumes split with Copperfield)
    6. Acers: 6-4/28-22 (Assume split with Good Guys)
    7. JCC: 5-3/23-17

Of course if double trouble drops some, which seems likely they could enter the top of the wildcard as well.

  6. Someone should just D'Q Lee already. He illegally self rated. I don't care what Yang says he should know better. A good captain will put his team in a position to win, even if it means filing a protest. Come on Ristau or JCC, make it happen.

    1. If it's the Christopher Lee who played at Trinity in 2008, they were a D3 school ranked in the top 25 (#11 actually), which means he'd have to self-rate no lower than 5.5. If it's the other one he played a pretty good vampire.

  7. Lee didn't actually play though.
