WTF???

Wow. A lot of unexpected stuff happened last night. Some of the scores have yet been recorded, so I guess I'll have to speculate.

Let's start with 4.5. I'd not seen the Black Sheep play this year, but had heard nothing but raves from those who had. I knew, as did everyone, that their division was quite weak. I must admit I was skeptical, as it seems that every year we hear stuff about the Black Sheep only to see them flame out come playoff time. I was told Sanborn is unstoppable, that he and Davila would waltz through the playoffs. I'm curious to see what the singles matchups were last night. Anyone know?

In my mind JAM was still the favorite. Sydney has the pedigree, the resumé that nobody in 4.5 can match. Hornsby has been untouchable. I'd heard they would be using him in singles in the playoffs. I assumed he would shine there as well. JCC has a leg up on winning the flight, but is not out of the woods yet. Three teams ending up with one loss is a distinct possiblity. JAM will have to go for the jugular in each of its remaining matches.

I really don't see any way the Hurricane 4.5 team doesn't win their flight. They absolutely destroyed the Dbags last night with something not even approaching their best lineup.

As shocking as 4.5 was, the 4.0 Hurricanes losing (to the Phoenix?) was even a bigger surprise. Greg Nitayamekin is supposed to be one of the top 4.0's this year. Last night his career playoff record moved to 0-2 as self-rate Sebastian Olmos came from out of nowhere to beat him. The 'Canes still have matches against the other powers (Mob Squad, Unicorns), so they're by no means eliminated.

The Mob Squad took out the Unicorns 3-2. Crafty veteran Cuong Truong again came through in the clutch. The Unicorns unleashed a self-rate (William Loweth) who has primarily been playing 4.5, and he won easily at line 1 singles. Quizzically, they used both Phi Nguyen and Shishir Mohan in doubles. Kudos to Mob Captain Tuan Tran, who split himself and Bao Hangoc up in doubles. Tran paired with former junior standout Thomas Hoang and Bao played with Alastair Le, resulting in two doubles wins.

Finally, the Good Guys squeaked past Copperfield. Andrew Nguyen dominated in singles, winning 2 and 1. Copperfield paired up Bromley and Zach Salinas in doubles, where they barely won. Will Nguyen's win result in a DQ? If so, will that result in a reversal? I should know the answers to these questions, but I don't.
Props to the Sandwich Blaster, who came through with a big win for the Good Guys in doubles.

  3. Sanborn retired at 1-4? Edwards stops Pio in straight sets. Lacy/Davidson lose to the undefeated duo Wright/Connell. Lakeside defaults a line of doubles?!?! Quack Bui/Morris pull out line 3 dubs over Morgan/Moss. Can't believe that even with B.S starting up 1-0 got beat handily.

  4. on paper, blacksheep has a great roster, but i think the team already thought they won before playing their matches. their singles were a flop last night. as well as their doubles. the only line won as a default before the match started. so much for all that trash talking. i'm not hearing anything from dbags and jam this morning either.

  5. Did the Good Guy stud get DQ'ed for the win yet? If I were that captain I would be nervous as shit.

  6. 4.0 Canes did not bring out the guns vs the Phoenix. Berry, Nguyen, Dornbos and Reeves will be in the lineup all weekend (Singles, Doubles? Who cares?) Nitayamekin went to happy hour before his match last night and played with a buzz. You can be sure that this does not happen tonight/tomorrow.

    4.5 Canes... MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSE

    Houston, be afraid, very afraid.

    1. If Nitty was buzzed he is a loser who let his team down and does not deserve to play. Is Berry playing 4.0 or 4.5?

    3. For Flight I -
Copperfield is now in driver seat after the reversal. They have to get through Spoor and team on Sat afternoon and hope the that Good Guys beat Westside.
Sienna is a non-factor and don't expect them to put up a fight on Sat AM against Copperfield.

      For Flight II --
It comes down to Sat AM match between Mob Squad and Westside - If Westside wins, they are clearly front runners with only a weak Cinco Ranch team to play on Sunday.

If Mob Squad wins, they have to get past Canes in afternoon.

Canes will need Mob Squad to beat Westside in AM and then to beat Mob Squad themselves in afternoon.

Then everyone is with 1 loss and it comes down to fewest lines lost, etc, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  16. fobsquad 4.5 can't even make the playoffs so no more trash talking by them. blacksheep sucks, they never make it to dallas. someone send them a post card. jam with their shitty jim brothers lost. dbag were never good, they just made the playoffs because 2 teams had to go from their division.

congrats to jcc and lakeside for stomping those team last night.

  17. How stupid is Brandon Mei and the Good Guy's captains. It isn't like it was a secret that Andrew Nguyen was close to being DQ'd. It just doesn't make sense that those guys would go through all the hassle and trouble buying matching outfits and getting their cute little nicknames on them to then not pay attention to stuff like this.

    ReplyDelete

Yes we have matching shirts, we support each other always. When someone gets DQed or bumped, we don't bitch about it, we accept it and move on.

    7. Tim, very commendable. We'll send you a posrcard from Dallas.

      Delete
    8. Sorry, Tim, I don't buy it. Why add someone who is so obviously out of level like Andrew then? Brandon wants to win just like every other "weasel" captain. He's just not very good at it.

Throwing matches and managing scores isn't nearly as bad a problem as self-rated ringers who crush the competition. Andrew handed out 3 double bagels in 4.0 league. You think the guys that he crushed enjoyed their league experience that night?

      Delete
    9. bradon is not the captain, its that pantalgia idiot, he looks like an idiot, sounds like an idiot, is an idiot

      Delete
    10. Oh please, Every Major team on every level has people who are obviously out of level, and anyone who knows me knows I know most of the players who play 4.0s-4.5s just on the simple fact that I work at LLTC and watch people play all the time. I can right now name 15 people who are out of level in 4.0s alone. Several of them are on teams that didn't make play offs. Houston 4.0's is incredibly stacked and everyone knows it. I commend those captains who are able to do what they do, and I was not referring to the captains and calling them "weasels", I am friends with several of them including the big name captains. I am referring to the players who are d*ckless and are scared to play up or get bumped up. The choice to throw matches is yours not your captains.
Andrew was not afraid to get bumped, he played his game and played hard every match and has nothing to be ashamed of. There is nothing more disrespectful then beating someone and not playing your hardest, To answer your question "6:05", if you ask me the people who lost 0-0 to Andrew had a better time then losing 3-3 to the douche not trying or giving games away. TOTAL DISRESPECT to your opponent. Enjoy Dallas, I still got respect for myself, my team, and the game of tennis, but that's about it.

      Tim Russell

    11. Hey Tim, I'm one of those guys who usually loses 6-0,6-0 to those out-of-level self rates. I don't enjoy it. Why don't you play up in 4.5 summer league so you can enjoy getting bageled regularly if it's no big deal. You play 4.5 in the spring and the fall.

The justification that "Every major team does it" is lame.

      Delete
    12. "I am referring to the players who are d*ckless and are scared to play up" says the guy who plays 4.5 in the spring and fall, but plays 4.0 in the summer. LOL - nice one.

      Delete
    13. Its not a justification, its a fact first off, its impossible to make a team full of legit self rated players, on any level there will always be players better than others, these players get bumped. Secondly I play 4.0s because I am a 4.0, maybe you will get bumped down to 3.5s on Monday and things will be competitive for you again.
And for the record I hope to get bumped to 4.5s. Every match I played this season was close, but I came out on top every time but once, maybe im not that great at tennis but it seems I know how to win.

LMFAO, first off this is coming from someone who post anonymous, you sound pretty d*ckless to me. Plus everyone plays up in the fall and spring. I played up in an effort to get bumped up, didn't happen, may never will happen, who knows but ask around people will tell you I have been trying to get bumped since last summer. maybe I am just a legit 4.0 who knows? And I am thinking this is somebody I know, be bold post ya name. lolololol

      Delete
    15. Tim, you're just digging yourself a deeper hole. Why not just play up instead of being "d*ckless"? Ahh, you like dishing out bagels instead of taking them. Kinda of hypocritical when you just got through telling us that being on the receiving end of a double bagel no big deal.

      Delete
    16. I post anonymously because I'm not stupid.

    17. LOL. This thread is awesome.

    18. Lessons to be learned from this exchange:

      1. It's better to be at the top of 4.0 than the bottom of 4.5
      2. Getting double bageled sucks at any level
      3. Never argue with an anonymous troll
      4. The Good Guys is definitely not a team of rocket scientists

      Delete
    19. Ok, so you brag about never losing at 4.0 and how you're trying hard to get bumped up. Then you call people that refuse to play up dickless.

You need to man up, play 4.5 and quit picking on the weaklings at 4.0. After a couple of beat downs by former D1/satellite tour players at 4.5, you'll change your attitude about out-of-level cheaters.

      Delete
  18. I don't understand why Phi Nguyen's DQ matches were not reversed but Andrew Nguyen's were. And only his last match was.

    ReplyDelete
  19. This is what's wrong with league in this time and age. All season long, we knew these players were wrongly self rated. It has become a win at all cost mentality where captains are willing to cheat for this goal but what's the end result? Them not winning a thing cause those guys got dq. Pathetic.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Why isn't the 4.5 match between Copperfield n HRC reported yet? Heard they won 5-0. Copperfield 5.0, 4.5 and 4.0 could virtually take it all 3 levels.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Copperfield 5.0 is probably the favorite to get to Nationals at that level. They have some of the best doubles players around. The 4.5 I wold say has a 50/50 shot to get to Dallas and a 10% to get out of Dallas depending upon how the young kids play. The 4.0 I would also put at 50% to get to Dallas but less than 5% chance of getting to nationls.

    Thoughts?

    ReplyDelete
  22. I agree with the 5.0 assesment. Their doubles combos are scary.

The 4.5 has a good shot of making it to Dallas assuming they have everyone available. Odion and Orlando Galvan are 2 top notch doubles players. If their juniors come through in singles it's game, set and match.

Not sold on 4.0 team just yet. The 5.0/4.5 guys already have known Natioal caliber players on the roster. The 4.0 team lacks experience and will have to rely on Salinas and he juniors to continue winning.

  33. Got a $500 ticket from City of Houston for parking in handicap on Thursday night (and so did everyone else in those spots). Any tips on getting out of this? Find it unfair. Choices at the time: default match for arriving late, block someone else in, park in front of the entrance, roll over curb and park on grass, park across street and get towed (get shot). Worker at front desk had previously said to "park anywhere" if it's completely full. This is a complete TRAP by City of Houston. They just increased their revenue by $5,000 (10 x $500). Better yet-can we invest some money into LLTC with the money they just earned and a) get decent lights, b) get a security guard, c) eliminate the craters in the courts???
