Playoff Brackets

The 4.0 playoff pools have been released.

Teams in Flight I: Copperfield, Good Guys, Lakeside, West Side Warriors, Sienna
Teams in Flight II: CR-Comets, Hurricanes, Unicorns, West Side Phoenix, Mob Squad

Matches start on Thursday. On paper, none of the matches this Thursday are headliners.

At first glance, one might be tempted to assume that Flight II is a lot stronger (and it may be), as it contains the recent powers in 4.0: The Hurricanes, Unicorns and Mob Squad. Can Copperfield "rest" their vulnerable players until a match-up with the Good Guys? Oooh...that takes place on the 12th. Can't wait for that one.

I assume the 4.5 stuff will also be released shortly.

  1. It appears that the 4.5 playoffs have now been posted.

Flight 1 Teams: Lakeside, Westside, Hurricanes, Deucebags

Flight 2 Teams: Copperfield, Blast, Sugar Creek, HRC

Again, the Flights seem fairly well-balanced to me, with Flight 2 perhaps being a bit stronger.

First match is on the 12th...JAM/Blast might be the one I'd most like to see on that night.

  4. pool 1
blacksheep has not proven anything from past nor present. they have a good team that was in a non-competitive div. a true test will be their first match against lakeside. i will have to go with hurricanes, from their history of success

    pool2
sugar creek to win, but i would put jcc above copperfield, because of the more experienced league players, compared to the copperfield juniors.

  5. Pool 1 winners: Duecebags
    Pool 2 winners: Copperfield

  6. Here are my thoughts 4.0 Pool 1:

Copperfield - top talent with Michael Salinas, Zachary Salinas, Heath Bromley, Brian Hays and a host of other above average 4.0 players. This team is deep with ringers. Unless they get a DQ, I suspect Copperfield wins Houston and does well at sectionals.

Lakeside - nice, solid team with veteran leadership. These guys have been around the block and they know how to put out a lineup that will get them 3 lines. Their doubles lines are crafty enough to frustrate the younger kids on Copperfield and The Good Guys. Lakeside's problem will be winning singles lines in this pool.

The Good Guys - nice, deep team that hasn't been challenged all year. It is hard to argue with a 47-3 lines won record but the only thing that counts is winning 3 lines when it matters. Andrew Nguyen, who was 1st team all-state at Carmel HS in Indiana, may be secret weapon that gets The Good Guys past Copperfield.

Westside-Warriors - nice team that has a couple of solid players and one for sure win each match in Mark Etienne. But this team is not very deep and it will be difficult for them to go out and take 3 lines off of three elite teams.

Sienna - this team was lucky to make the playoffs and should go 0-4 in pool play.

I will research and comment on pool 2 when I get some free time.

  7. It looks like Westside won the 4.5 pool lottery in avoiding Sugar Creek and Copperfield. The only 2 teams they can't beat.

  8. Copperfield has two of the best players in the state in Orlando Galvan and Odion Dibua. If these juniors are as good as I hear then they should beat Jam handily.

  9. blacksheep will play lobsters in the finals of 4.5.
blacksheep has the experience needed to advance this year.
lobsters have the youth to push them over the edge.

  10. flight 1
bs vs lakeside- singles split. connell/wright will win their line. that leaves line 2 and 3 doubles as the deciding lines.
dbags vs canes- canes will sweep dbags

    flight 2
jam vs blast- good match to see sydney vs taylor. sydney wins. jam will sweep doubles
copperfield vs hrc- not worth mentioning

  11. How could you count 4.5 canes out? They still have a solid team still able to compete with the best of them....

    1. Canes have the experience to win their flight.

    2. Experience doesn't mean shit. Talent and Playing Ability do. And they have it.

Who's the fucking moron who thinks the Copperfield juniors don't have experience enough? Do you really think they are going to get nervous playing fucking league tennis? They have probably played as many matches in their lives as a lot of the old men in the 4.5 league. They are experienced. Are they good enough? I don't know. We'll find out.

      Delete
    3. Juniors usually have the talent, but they like to swing for the fences. I recently played some really good juniors, but this was in doubles and they didn't know how to handle it once they started losing. Singles might be a different story.

      Delete
    4. Juniors suck at doubles. They stay back too much, volley like shit and can't believe fat, old hackers with shitty strokes and continental grips are kicking their asses. It shell-shocks them sometimes.

      Delete
  12. Canes sucked last year and they suck this year. They might make it to Dallas, but that's as far as they go.

    1. Canes 4.0 is the same as last year. They'll be playing at sectionals on sunday. Canes WILL make it to sectionals again this year in 4.5.

  13. Lucas the "Bomb" and King James will show you how good they are next week. DONT doubt these juniors skillz. They will bring their super champ "A" games !!!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Who gives a f*ck about being a super champ lmfao.... You guys are idiots.

    ReplyDelete
  15. The difference in a 16 super or 18 champ vs. an 18 super is the latter has learned patience to go along with their talent. An 18 Super will beat most all 4.5 players everytime. It's only the guys who really should be 5.0 may beat an 18 super on a good day.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Most of the top singles guys competing in the playoffs are 5.0's. The only thing that I will guarantee is that the juniors aren't gonna feel the heat on Sunday.

    1. Really? Who is a "5.0"??? Most of the guys???? That's a joke. Singles is BAD this year. Bad.

  17. Mussenden, Martinez,Pise, Guy, Dibua, Galvan, Jim, Davila, Sanborn, Edwards, Staley,Taylor are all good 4.5's and could compete at 5.0 level.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Blacksheep is underrated. They will crush the canes and will make it to sectionals for the first time.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Tommy is that you talking trash for the Blacksheep? Wasn't he suppose to make it to Dallas, but couldn't beat a sorry ass DBag team?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Blacksheep got schooled by Sugar Creek before and will lose again! Go SC!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Tommy has been running his mouth that this years team is "THE" team. I give him credit that he tanked his players from 5.0 down to 4.5. We will see how good they are after their Lakeside match.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Westside vs Lakeside can go 3-2 either way.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Black Sheep Best Line up
    Singles: Sanborn & Davila/Muhala/Hale/Hinojosa/Alzate
    Doubles: Davidson/Lacy, Cannon/Luna and Ristau/Dimitrijevic.

They will win 3 Lines in Sanborn, Davidson/Lacy, Cannon/Luna and even Ristau/Dimitrijevic.

    Black Sheep 4 - Lakeside 1

    ReplyDelete
  32. When will Houston know if they get a 4.5 wild card for Sectionals?

    ReplyDelete
  33. No wild cards for 4.5 in 2012. There are 12 cities with 4.5 teams and no teams registered for the qualifying tournament.

    ReplyDelete
  34. That means Sugar Creek will go to Dallas without anyone else. Hurricane are the 2nd best team, then Coppierfield.

    ReplyDelete
  35. get rid of noho and always have two houston teams for sectionals. that's poor management from usta/hta. if you have a north houston league, then why not have south houston (soho), west houston (woho), east houston (eoho)? houston is houston. your decision to move far from town is your decision.

  36. Getting rid of NoHo wouldn't ensure another team from Houston. That's not our call. Even then we'd have fewer teams than Dallas and they don't get an automatic 2 teams in 4.5 either. A smarter idea might be to form a WeHo Tennis Association? (Katy area has enough players to field the 3 teams necessary for a Sectionals berth)

    ReplyDelete
  37. Any of the Houston teams could easily play in the NOHO league.

It would be nice if they would increase the number of 4.5 teams playing at sectionals to 16 so that the bigger cities could get wild cards.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. NoHo actually has a southern boundary of like 1960 or something, so not anyone per-se could sign up and play.

The problem that I have found out there is finding a place that let's non-members play. The closest affordable solution was Forest Oaks, but that got shut down.

There are no public parks out there. You can pull a Red and register out of one of the high school's out there and try and play away every week, but that won't fly on a larger scale.
