Midyears are out.

The usual disclaimer: These may bear little resemblance to the end-of-year ratings.

Chris usually posts a link to an excel spreadsheet, perhaps that will follow if he's not too busy.

Here they are:

  3. Does anyone know the rule on SuperChamps who self-rate 4.5 and then commit to a D1 college.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes. Notify USTA-TX. They will likely be moved up to 5.5 at that point but no match scores will be reversed.

  4. Superchamps are way overrated on this blog and from what it seems overrated within USTA rules. There is a huge difference in level between top superchamps in Texas vs bottom superchamps in Texas where I believe the top might be as high as 5.5 and bottom would be a 4.0. The same applies for playing at a D1 college. Playing at a ranked D1 college vs one that is unranked; huge difference. Some of these players have good strokes but don't have the mental game which evens out a lot of these matches and "upsets"

    1. Agree with the fact that there is a big difference in how good the top superchamps are vs the lower ranked ones...but to say the lower level superchamps are 4.0 is ridiculous to say the least.

Even champs kids have proven they are very strong 4.0 players in city playoffs, look at heath and zach from Copperfield this year to name a few...

    2. I think you're proving my point. The fact of the matter is if you were looking at 12s, 14s, and 16s the bottom ranked supers would be dropped down to champs when they age up. The same would be true if you projected the bottom 18s supers; they just aren't that much better than champs. Unless times have changed since I was super a half a decade ago, I don't think the quality of players will differ that much.

  5. Is Houston considered the biggest draw for league tennis in Texas? Or is Dallas bigger? Why is sectionals always in Dallas? Seems unfair.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Houston has nowhere to play an event like sectionals. Dallas has multiple sites 10+ courts. I'd much rather play in Dallas than in Houston.

  6. Houston courts suck

  7. Do mid year ratings only apply to combo and tri level events?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Mainly but also for cities like Dallas who have a USTA season in the Fall.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Houston tennis blog doesn't suck, have u read the other cities??? No trash talking, will put u to sleep. We have the most posts and the best posts thanks to Greg and Chris. thanks for leaving all the funny stuff up!! U have snotty trust fund babies and Dallas, Liberal hippie commies in Austin, San Antonio will always have the Alamo and the Spurs, and does Texas have a East or West?

  10. combo and tri-level use year-end ratings fyi.

    ReplyDelete
  11. this year's tri-level used mid-year ratings.

    1. 2012 tri level took place around february or march already i meant to say, and that it used 2011's mid-year ratings.

  12. Ratings? This might be the year that JAMs simon, day and berman will actually get their 4.0 rating. those guys are way over their head thinking they were jams best player. Kudos to red benson to have them thinking that they were their best players and sacrifice them on line 1 so everyone else can win.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I never thought they were their line 1 players, I knew they were sandbagging lines 2 and 3 the whole summer season

    2. Are you smokin crack? Burrmann and Day have been one of the top doubles teams in 4.5 for a long time. Only guys that have a better record as a team is Connell/Wright.

      Delete
  13. simon jim played 5.0 and looked like at 3.5 player against a couple of 4.5 players in a match at le clare.

    ReplyDelete
  14. These guys are not Red's player the captain is Douds. Red's players are better thank these players mentioned.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I'll take them for my team, my kind of players.

    ReplyDelete
  16. How is it that Connell/Wright never get bumped to 5.0? These two have never lost a league match yet they still manage to stay 4.5.

    ReplyDelete
  17. i think there's a guideline for age. those two guys know how to win in doubles.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Finals tonight in 4.0 and 4.5.
Mob Squad 4-1 over Good Guys.
    Hurricanes 3-2 over JCC.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Hurricanes and JCC are currently 2-2. Last line of singles is TBA this weekend.

Might end up being Rizarri/Abell for bragging rights as top 4.5 team in city ;)

    1. Looks a folks trying to buy time, wait for the WC teams to be placed in sectionals draw and THEN finish the match. Well played Houston.

  21. in mens 4.0, mob squad 4-1 over the good guys. Mob sqaud awesome team.

  22. WARNING!!! Get a line judge before you start your match against the HOOK MASTER Raymond Martinez. What a disgrace to tennis! Just ask D-bags, Lakeside, Blast.

    1. Where are all the people sticking up for Raymond saying he doesn't hook?

Who ever posted the last message, il play you for $1000 with a line judge attending.

  24. The only disgrace is the people who post here and call themselfs 4.5. Have you seen your backhand! This is a joke!

    ReplyDelete
  25. It's ironic that these known hookers (Raymond, Sydney, Sarosh) are somehow associated with Red and Freeman.

    ReplyDelete
  26. If someone is hooking you get a Freaking line judge. if you need to cry and whine about it it's way too late.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Why weren't all 5 lines played last night in JCC v Canes match last night? Doesn't make any sense.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I'm sure it has something to do with Red.

    2. So that Texas would have to publish schedules and placements of wildcard teams and then folks can make an educated decision on whether to take pool of WC team or winner team.

      Delete
  28. If line ups where exchanged then unless there was a default all 5 lines should have been played.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Seems like Warren and Freeman have some explaining to do.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Mob Squad 4.0 all the way to Nationals !!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Good possibility if they can find a 3rd singles player in their group .

    ReplyDelete
  32. Warren has always been a sneaky captain. They should both be reported to the HTA grievance committee. What a scandal!!!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The grievance committee is a toothless entity. What are they going to do?

The hurricanes and JCC already 'won' technically, so there is nothing to be decided.

I would suppose Freeman has better insight into the overall Texas scene and who he would prefer to play against in Dallas over the JCC captain.

  33. @1:28
Sounds good. These anonymous people need to stop bitching and making excuses. You lose 2 and 2 and say it's only because someone cheated. That's fucken ridiculous. Grow up, stop spending your life on a message board and work on your sorry ass game! You ball hackers are funny!! Why don't you say these things to those guys faces! And those guys you're talking about seem to be handing out lessons! I'm sure they aren't "hooking" 20 points a match! Grow up you ball hackers!

    ReplyDelete
  34. If you're cheating playing tennis, just imagine what you would do off the courts. You're reputation will follow you everywhere you go. You have no friends, because they don't trust you. You have no real job, because no one wants to hire you. All you do is hussle for your next meal. Once you're at the gates of heaven and God looks at you and said "Why do you deserve to go through these gate? You've cheated your entire life and I just saw you cut in line".

  36. We're there any notable bump downs this rating period?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Babu got bumped back down to 3.5 !!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Ford, Naranjos and Pete Rios are all 4.5 bump downs that can impact the league in 2013 if year end ratings hold.

Congrats to the Hurricanes and the JCC team for making it to the top of a tough season.

    Steve Ash

  39. Babu will probably be recruited by Mike Tran's team in 2013.

  40. BTW CANES WIN!!!! Pise d Able

    ReplyDelete
  41. Raymond 1,1 over Pete? Was that a real match or a fabricated score?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Yes it was a real match, but i'm pretty sure I cheated according these ball hackers!

  43. I still think the Gooder Guys are one of the top 4.5 teams in Houston. They are the only team to beat the Canes this year and almost swept them had it not been for bad calls by the Canes players. There is an argument to be made that the Gooder Guys are the 3rd best team in Houston. They played the Canes better than any other team (including Dbags, Lakeside and Westside) and they certainly played JCC better than the highly overrated teams such as Copperfield and Sugar Creek.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Until the Gooder Guys advance to playoffs we will never know how good they really are. No way that there even close to the 3rd best team in Houston.

      Delete
  44. The Canes will try to win at all cost, even if it resorts to cheating/bad line calls. I do agree that Gooder Guys did have a good team, but just like Mob Squad, you didnt make the playoffs. Therefore you are at best 9th place. Next season you will have a better chance on advancing, if the entire team is still intact and you add a few more top players.
