This week

For those of you sick of seeing the names "Chancellor's" and "Rios" in this space too often, bear with me, as they are central to this week's big matches.

Chancellor's is featured in both of this week's headliners: in 4.5 they travel to JCC to play the Blast, who are looking like a surefire playoff team after last week's easy win over Sugar Creek. I was interested to see that JCC used Taylor and Rios in singles last week and pushed Medford to doubles...I had assumed that Medford and Taylor would be the singles mainstays. Who will Chancellor's use in singles? James Dat Bui? Huy Nguyen? Hung Nguyen? I'm picking Chancellor's in a tight one.

Chancellor's 4.0 juggernaut faces Rios' other team, the 4.0 Hurricanes, indoors on Thursday. The two teams are undefeated and between them have dropped just one line along the way. I hope Minh Hoang is able to make it for Chancellor's...I remember what an exciting player he was back in the late nineties and am curious to see how his game has held up over the years. Former Met member and Chancellor's newcomer Bao Hangoc has been very impressive this year as well.

Anything else interesting this week? Nothing that really caught my eye, other than perhaps Willow Fork v. Sugar Creek in the 5.0 division. Speaking of 5.0, are the Black Sheep just pathetic or are they laying down? They've won 12 total games thus far.

  1. RIOS is the new sarosh, but sarosh is much better.

  2. My apologies: I did neglect another battle of unbeatens in 4.0 as blog favorite Freddy Soewito's RPM takes on The Good Guys. Freddy's bunch have flown under the radar thus far but have a chance to take control of the division on Thursday.

  3. Maybe 5.0 Black Sheep took a page out of Benzon/Freeman book. Play a year "UP" and get your players bumped down for the following year.

  4. blacksheep 4.5 might not even make playoffs. they have a tough division with schwwwings and gypsies.

chancellors will sweep the singles and i sure hope rios play so someone will shut him up. chancellors should win 4-1.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Chancellor 3-2 or 4-1.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Who does everything is the favorite in 4.5 this year? My picks are.

    1. Copperfield
    2. Hurricane
    3. Lakeside/Chancellor.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Sorry... who does everyone think is the favorite in 4.5 this year?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Black Sheep vs Swingggg should be a good match this week. Black Sheep need this win bad.

    ReplyDelete
  9. James Bui is going to be tough to beat in singles

    ReplyDelete
  10. -schwwings have been heavily underrated, but i think they can win that division, with callaway and kim playing singles, and the usual guys playing doubles.
-copperfield is top3 but without kudrick, they will lose both singles and they wont sweep any good team in doubles.
-blacksheep will miss playoffs with another early loss. they need a singles stud
-blast will make the playoffs, but with rios running his mouth, it makes the whole team look like chumps.
    - james bui will pull off a win against anyone from blast and rios will lose as well.

  11. If Blast can bring their best line up, then they will win 3-2. Taylor and Medford in singles, and Rios and Kiser in doubles.

    ReplyDelete
  12. You are strongly underestimating the 4.0 Hurricanes single lines, I don't play for them, but I have seen what they are capable of doing.

    ReplyDelete
  13. JCC and Chancellor's will split singles or JCC will sweep singles. No one on Chancellor's can beat Pete Taylor.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I'm not sure that's true. James Bui vs Taylor or Medford would be a good match. I don't know who would win that one, but if Rios play he will lose in singles if he's matched up against Bui. I predict 3-2 Chancellor, but depending on the line up it could be the other way too.

  15. I like May 10, 2011 10:03 PM analysis, well thought out. If Copperfield has Kudrick that is a win...and if they have a in shape Kent he will be hard to beat too. Swing is underrated and will likely win the division or at least get second. I'm not sure they will make it that far in the playoff tho. As for Blast they will make the playoff because its a weaker division. They don't have the doubles to go deep. I didn't know Rio's talks so much crap... he should tone it down bc 90% of the singles guys on the other teams will beat him. James Bui, Ed Hess, Quack Bui, Kudrick, Ted Pumma... just to name a few that will beat Rio's and make him a little more modest.

  16. I can understand ragging on Rio's playing ability. He is highly erratic and does throw out some clunkers. However, anyone who knows him knows that he definitely does NOT have a big ego and does NOT run his mouth.

Given that all of the comments about him on this blog are negative anyways, it's pretty clear he's not the one posting.

    ReplyDelete
  17. play rios in singles against chancellors, it'll be a humbling experience. i hope he plays james, hung, charlie, or huy. all 4 will slap that ego out of him

    ReplyDelete
  18. Wow, people posting about people's egos and "low-tier" playing ability REALLY need to get a life and quit wasting their time behind the computer. You're so cool with your small penis.

    ReplyDelete
  19. is that you rios? did you get your feelings hurt?

    ReplyDelete
  20. If i know freeman Rios is not the singles ringer on his team...

    ReplyDelete
  21. I gotta agree with 10:15.

It's pretty clear that Chancellor's singles is the best in the city. Maybe Hess could beat someone like Charlie. I'm guessing a singles sweeps for Chancellors all the way through cities. The rest of you are just fighting for second place!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Hess would beat anyone on Chancellors but Bui. Beyond that Chancellor singles does look pretty good. They owned Sugarcreek and they will own the JCC singles.

    ReplyDelete
  23. hold your horses. "chancellor's singles is the best in the city". they are not even top3. chancellors may win one singles line against.
    kudrick/kent
    callaway/kim
    hess/quack
    borkop/pumma

    ReplyDelete
  24. Kudrick always flakes out; Kent is always injured. Sweep Chancellors.

Callaway could barely beat Rios last summer; Kim plain sucks. Sweep Chancellors

Hess might win; Quack no way. Split.

Borkop beat up on 4.0s last year, Pumma is washed up. Sweep Chancellors.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I knew it was the Chancellors losers talking all this smack. Those Asians are handcuffed to their computers with their little weiners in the usb port. Between blog posts and porn, they're productivity is about on par.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Correct, Rios does not have a big ego or talk trash got to love people making crap up. Besides if your naming jackasses on the other team then most likely your the jackass on your team.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Yeah, whatever. We're gonna rock the city while you guys sit around griping on lame blogs.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Borkop almost beat Hess so I'm sure he would beat Chancellors. I would like to see the James Bui vs Hess or Bui vs Borkop. I don't know the other singles on Chancellors, but I thought James is probably the best on the team. Am I correct?

    ReplyDelete
  29. james is a solid line2 singles player. he's over-hyped. who has he beaten that's worth mentioning lately. the chancellor team just thinks he's god, because they are all mediocre. he had a hard time with average 4.5 players like cooney, allahverdian, cabrera, schmucker, mcmullan. let the record speak for itself.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Rios should win 4.5 copperfield tourney this weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  31. That comment is ridiculous and offensive. I'm sure there are hooks on a lot of teams, but to generalize and make racist comments about the whole team and question their citizenship? Wow. I'd like to see you learn either of the Chinese languages. Why dont you take your post off of "anonymous" and tell them yourself?

    ReplyDelete
  32. 2:32, why dont you have some balls and post your name, you racist pig

    ReplyDelete
  33. Man this blogs gotten pretty bad. Such comments as Asians, Latinos, and Whites are getting stupid. Lets keep it to tennis only.

  35. Self-Rate Alert

Duecebags have added a 19year old former Strake Jesuit standout and Supers to the roster. Self-Rated at 4.5. Alejandro R. Nazario.

    This raises several questions
    1) Is Alejandro R. Nazario legit as a 4.5 Self-Rate or should we anticipate a DQ based mis-rating? Is he legal?

    2) Is he enough to overcome Copperfield?

    3) Is he enough to help Deucebags as a wildcard?

    4) Where does kid stack up vs upper tier 4.5?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Agree with 3:21 post- you would think with the latest happenings (Osama) that we all would be simply "Americans" and proud of it!

One last thing- next time you go for a drink ask the bartender for a "Bin Laden". When he asks you what that is say " two shots and a splash of water"!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Looks legit as far as 4.5 self-rate. He was just a 1-star Super Champ and can't tell if he played(s) in college. Doesn't look like it. Super Champs can self-rate 4.5. I suspect he'll be comparable to Rios.

    ReplyDelete
  38. he's a jr player. hits big, but small game. just like rios. all you have to do to beat a player like that is return their big serve and play long points.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Wow, 7:09 it's that easy Ha? How good are you?Sounds like your all talk to me bro

    ReplyDelete
  40. i still don't think the deucebags have a chance for a wildcard even with the new kid.

    ReplyDelete
  41. can someone shut this rios's mouth up. sure talks a lot of smack for someone who has done nothing. ward, can you play this chump and send him into retirement.

    ReplyDelete
  42. your such a pussy 10:48. why don't you just do it yourself? guess you aint got the skills so you have to ask ward?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Why the jealousy when it comes to Pete Rios? The man has proven to the league that he is very capable of playing anybody in singles and or doubles, not too many players can do that. Let's just appreciate his talent, good for houston tennis and nice competitor, I suggest everyone work on their singles and doubs maybe it will help your tennis grow like Mr. Pete Rios

    ReplyDelete
  44. I think a lot of these people have outgrown their tennis because they have aged a lot and Rios is just a young good tennis stud

    ReplyDelete
  45. Hey Pete, JUST DO IT

    ReplyDelete
  46. blast vs chancellors. battle of the trash talking teams tonight. who barks the most and who will be bitten. this blog will be exploding when the results come in.

    taylor beats james
    anyone beats rios
    medford wins in doubles.

    chancellors win 3-2

    ReplyDelete
  47. I would put Taylor and Medford in singles and Rios in doubles. That would be the best lineup for Blast. Good luck to both teams, it should be a dog fight.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Taylor beats James?

If Taylor wins he would need 3 and James gets stronger as the match goes on. JUst dont see it happening

    ReplyDelete
  49. That's offensive!

    ReplyDelete
  50. It's more offensive that he/she spelled it wrong. Damn you public school system!

I better not see anything about JCC or I'll buy your club and turn it into a kosher deli. Wait, spend money? No way.

PSA Alert: Words hurt people, tennis doesn't. Unless you play at LeClear, then you get capped.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Enough of the racial comments. Asian, Jewish, whatever...

    ReplyDelete
  52. chancellors 4.0 vs canes 4.0 is the other big match tonite. should be a lot of drama

    ReplyDelete
  53. What, after all the trash talking and no comments about any of the matches? Did any of them get played last night after the rain, even the indoor teams?

    ReplyDelete
  54. what a great night of tennis. rios got spanked as expected. with all that hype about james, well he got spanked pretty badly by taylor. finally chancellors got their loss. most surprisingly was blast winning two lines of doubles.

note: with james losing the way he did, and chancellors doubles did not dominate, that leaves them out of contention of making out of city.
also, why did they play rios line#1 singles. if rios is the second best singles player, then they really have a problem. ron jacobs is an older dude, but he is definitely a better singles player then rios

    ReplyDelete
  55. I noticed that Medford (and Jacobs) played doubles again and also lost. Perhaps Medford's either injured or lost a step.

The Blast's doubles is better than everyone thinks.
