May 26th Matches

It's time for a new post.

There are a few interesting matches on the slate this week. Starting in 4.5, Lakeside takes on surprising No Way Out in a battle of unbeatens in division I. LCC survived a scare last week against pesky Lakeside Estates, with Ed Hess falling to Jose Luis Munoz Orozco (longest name in the league???). Lakeside hasn't seemed to be hitting on all cylinders thus far. Their MVP's to this point may be 4.0 alumni Jim Wooten and Eddie Perdomo, who provided the winning margin against Lakeside Estates after tripping up Norkus and Weaver in week one.

Another early season surprise is the team from Taylor HS. They can deal a crippling blow to perennial playoff qualifiers Westside Black Sheep this week. The Black Sheep survived Cinco Ranch last week despite, quite frankly, a very weak lineup. The will need all of their horses this week. Juan Muhala is definitely in the hunt for the 4.5 Summer League Rookie of the year award and has added some meat to the top of the lineup for Taylor HS.

Chancellor's also takes on Sugar Creek, who will need to go on a late season run to be a factor this year.

In 5.0 Lakeside takes on the surprising Sugar Creek team fresh off its upset of the Met last week. Sugar Creek probably enters the match with a 3-1 record and have snuck into the hunt for a berth to Dallas. Aadrian Hasker has been money for Lakeside, though he showed some vulnerability against Neil Carpenter last week.

In 4.0, the much-discussed Unicorns take on the Sienna Aces, who come in with a 3-1 record. The first match between these two teams was fairly one-sided, and it's hard to see Sienna causing many problems. The Unicorns appear to have two elite 4.0 doubles tandems in Yang/Arellano and Galvez/Ahmad. Will Russell be their ace singles guy to carry them to playoff success, or have they got other hidden talents?

Finally, out in Cinco Ranch, the division leading Wranglers take on the 3-1 Comets. Patrick Newton and Benjamin Hughes have been solid for the Wranglers.

  1. Unicorns will sweep Sienna. Our last meeting was 4-1, at home it will be 5-0. Guaranteed!
Hurricaines, see you in playoffs. You are going down.

  2. i'm pulling for sugar creek titans 4.5, with all that smack talking that chancellors has been doing. from the results against taylor, i think simon can smack james this time

    - one more thing.....RIOS SUCKS

  3. And of course, more byes. Thanks HTA.

  4. Funny 8:51. I'm on Chancellors team, never heard anyone smack talk anyone.
BTW-Rios is a good guy and good player.

  5. Simon didn't play the first time around versus Chancellors. Also, the rumor mill has it that Sugarcreek is also going to add another good singles player. So Chancellor will have a serious challenge on its hands, outdoors at Sugarcreek.

  6. 9:05, rios runs his mouth all over the board on how good he is. chancellors run their mouth all over the board until the got beaten by blast. also what an elite singles player james is and that they will sweep all the singles. now you have a relistic problem. you are vulnerable to losing to titans this time and blast again.

  7. Is there a rule that if no scores are entered a team should be Defaulting all their lines. MPTC- Big Bangers have no scores reported. Not a good example Mr. Freddie Soewito is setting for the rest of the Captains. No scores after 5 weeks. Hmmmm

    ReplyDelete
  8. In all fairness to the Big Bangers, 2 weeks of byes and a rain out doesn't help. The lights got turned out on me at Memorial and the rain came last week.

    ReplyDelete
  9. So have the Bangers finished any matches? Freddie????

    ReplyDelete
  10. does anyone know the playoff format. how many wild cards and how a team can qualify

    ReplyDelete
  11. Sugar Creek over chancellor's if Simon decides to play this time.

    ReplyDelete
  12. First of all, if the lights turn out the Home team must default whatever lines that was going on at that time since its the home team's responsibility.

    ReplyDelete
  13. The playoff picture should be a little clearer after this week's matches. Any more news on the city playoff format?

    ReplyDelete
  14. I asked Diana last week and she responded that the overwhelming consensus of the 4.5 captains was 5 winners + 3 wildcards. She said that the playoffs would be on the web this week.

  15. Yamaguchi = Automatic Singles Win.....Take him out of Dubs you tards.

  16. Russell Sucks, his only weapon is he is African American, F*cking Genetics.

  17. Who is going to sign up Kallus?

    ReplyDelete
  18. that's all Russell needs, be very afraid

  19. sienna has 3 new players in brandon nguyen, chris alexander, and babu zachariah

    ReplyDelete
  20. guess more 18 year olds champs they try to play at 4.0? did they not learn from the others that bumped up?

    ReplyDelete
  21. The Hurricanes are the best 4.0 team in the city...we will crush the Unicorns and everyone in the city playoffs.

    ReplyDelete
  22. @10:47 Have you ever read a rule? Certainly not true at city facilities because no one has control over when they turn out the lights.

  23. @Bobby According to the HTA rules, the matches have been complete if it is 2 weeks after they were scheduled. It is the home team's responsibility to complete matches within 2 weeks. I am sure that Freddy is in the process of doing the right thing and entering defaults; if he exceeded the threshold that is in the rules that he wrote. He who forges the sword; dies by the sword.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I hate people who always quote the rules. Those are the people who can't win and will default their opponent within the 15 minute rule. Is that right Mr 6:52…

    ReplyDelete
  25. Watch out for the babu ...

    ReplyDelete
  26. Freddie is just protecting the wildcard berth for his 4.5 team. My prediction: lots of strange scores will be entered for the Big Bangers very late in the season causing them to squeeze in as a wildcard team. Bank on it.

HTA is incompetent; Freddie is corrupt

    ReplyDelete
  27. Freddy is shady... always the short fat ones...

    ReplyDelete
  28. Babu is a BEAST!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Looks like Taylor HS, Hurricanes, Lakeside and JCC Blast are the teams to beat.

    ReplyDelete
  30. What happened to Brainfart Beinart?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Babu runs like a deer. I don't think he is an 18 champ; however, I know he is not a day over 60. He is a lefty with a huge kick serve and an awesome flat serve. He hit me in the nuts the other day with that flat serve.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Freddie has priapism.

    ReplyDelete
  33. It's time to take the Cinco Ranch Wranglers seriously in 4.0.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Babu is surprisingly spry for someone very tall. Excellent reach and very agile at the net. He is definitely a threat and a great pickup for Sienna

    ReplyDelete
  35. Is that the same Babu that played for Trinity a few years ago?

    ReplyDelete
  36. We are going to take the Wranglers seriously to the woodshed for a beating!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Looked at the standings this morning. I would say that at least half of the teams in 4.5 are a complete and total joke. That USTA ratings adjustment was a disaster. Deucebags, Hurricanes and Copperfield basically had a walk to the playoffs. It's impossible for them to lose to the awful teams in their divisions.

    ReplyDelete
  38. If you're Ken Douds, who do you play against Lakeside in singles tonight against Hasker? Straley, Ford or Gururaj? Do any of them have a chance?

    ReplyDelete
  39. This is the worst year I can remember as far as good 4.5 teams are concerned. Houston has no great teams. Copperfield, Lakeside and Hurricanes are all good enough to compete at sectionals but none have a true shoot at advancing. Also, the other 4.5 teams are no where near the calibre of playoff teams we've seen in the past.

I wouldn't be surprised if the top 3-4 4.0 teams will be better than half the 4.5 teams that make the city playoffs.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Let's not get carried away. Well, Dugasbags against Hurricanes 4.0 might be close. The 4.5 team could get swept in the singles! Rios and Vu can beat Goldberg and Schmucker I would think.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Watch the Babu...

    ReplyDelete
  42. hasker is the man to beat so far in 5.0. however, straley, ford, and garuraj are no pushovers and are capable of beating hasker. it will come down to the doubles, and it tilts in favor of lakeside

    ReplyDelete
  43. 10:50, you are right that this is the worst year in 4.5. however, top 3-4 4.0 teams would not win against half the 4.5 teams, but it would be close

11:00, vu can beat goldberg and schmucker, but rios cant

    ReplyDelete
  44. Babu is a benchmarked 4.0, how can he be so.good?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Garuraj has beaten Hasker the last two times they have played. Sugarcreek 2-1 or maybe even a sweep.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Timothy "Sandwich Blaster" RussellMay 26, 2011 at 3:29 PM

Hurricane 4.0 sucks. Unicorns will sweep them 5-0.

    GUILLA!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Didn't take a genius to see this one coming: Dereck Dietrich from the Westside 4.0 team was disqualified today due to the "three strikes" rule.

    ReplyDelete
  48. That helps us a little tonight. And no, it still wasn't me.

    PK

    ReplyDelete
  49. Chancellor are bunch of cheaters; but we sweep them anyway. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  50. hmmm, another victory for the hurricanes!

    ReplyDelete
  51. hurricanes won 4-1... they looked bored.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Unicorns won 4-1... they looked bored.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Unicorns play with their horns

    ReplyDelete
  54. Unicorns over Hurricaines 5-0... we are the best

    ReplyDelete
  55. How bad do you have to be to be a teaching pro and still be rated 4.0? Hurricanes aka teaching pros who suck for cash! Rios & Alex Montes
