New Post

Sorry, I've been busy. The season has snuck up on me (is this the first time the season has ever started BEFORE the "Coke"????) and I will try to do a preview in the next couple of days (after doing my taxes, of course).

Haven't seen too much that's piqued my interest, other than the fact that the "Unicorns" 4.0 team could be a major player. I had several "recruiting targets" in the offseason, and struck out on a lot of them. Some of them are showing up on other teams and it will be interesting to see if my judgment of their worth is proven correct or incorrect.

Anyway, I digress...this was mainly a new post so that people could see the comments. Carry on.

  1. Who are the "recruiting targets" of merit? Curious to see who the upcoming 4.0's will be.

  2. Unicorns? Who is that and who on their team is a threat?

  5. Well, I'm not a recruiter, really. I am not a salesman, so I need an "in" with a good player. I used to play basketball quite frequently in college with one of the unicorn guys and think he's a very good player, based on seeing him a couple of years ago.

One of my other targets (in my mind) that I had a very weak "in" with, ended up on the Chancellor's roster. I think both will be very successful players.

Unicorns have a lot of new names, but Phillip Yang went three sets with Scott Foster a couple of years ago, Brian Arellano had a win over Foster and Ricardo Martinez in doubles in that same year. I hear that Tim Russell is an excellent player...add in the doubles team of Ahmad and Galvez and you have a team that can beat anyone in the city.

  6. a lot of Alief connections on that team

  7. Anyone know anything about Tim Russell? I heard he teaches tennis at LLTC.

  8. Situation: Let's say you have a full line-up for your league match on Thursday, and you are the home team. The team you are playing only has 5 players.

The team with 5 players could fill out 2 singles lines, and a doubles line...

OR... they could fill out 1 singles and 2 doubles lines.

Who determines what lines are to be played, and what are the lines to be played?

  9. Don't see any obvious ringers in the 4.5 Houston Major Zone. The seeds might advance deeper in the draw this year.

  10. @3.39PM, the team with a short line-up can tell the opposing team which lines they want to play. The defaulting lines must come from the "weakest" line first. So, they cannot default Singles line 1 without defaulting Singles line 2 first. Or, they cannot default Doubles line 1 with defaulting Doubles line 2 and Doubles line 3 first.

  11. News Flash::: Copperfield Lobster has added Adam Kent to their roster. That is a 2-0 start for Lobsters all season. Good luck to other teams trying to win the other 3 lines...

  23. Anyone want to comment on where the #1, #2 and #3 seeds may have a difficult match in the draw? Any possibility for one of these guys to go out early?
