HTA Board

The HTA had its first Board meeting last night and I was in attendance (embarrassingly, I showed up ten minutes late after the meeting had already started). There were probably 40 or 50 people present at the meeting with representatives from seemingly all segments of the local tennis population. There were several league players on the board...off the top of my head I remember: Michael Martinez, Marcus Robinson, Lance Loken, David Frels, Peter Talosig, and Freddy Soewito. I'm sure I left some league people out. The meeting itself was pretty mundane, basically an introduction and then an approval of the budget for the year.

For those of you who don't know, the HTA has a new office in the USPTA building located on BriarPark. They have just recently finished moving in the new office furniture which was generously donated by Shell at the urging of one of our active members. Incidentally, the HTA is in need of a refrigerator for the office if anyone would like to contribute. Please contact Cheryl or me if you are able to help. Any donation would be tax deductible.

Also, just as an FYI, even though I am currently a member of the board it doesn't mean that I will be a shill for the HTA. I will continue to voice my opinions regardless of whether they conflict with HTA policies. That being said, we all have our biases, and mine are positive towards HTA. I've been playing league for 15 years or so and to be honest, have had dealings mainly with only two people at HTA: Cheryl and Diana Wengler. My experiences with both have been very positive, and thus I have had a positive impression of HTA.

Anyway, I'll get off my soapbox. It's a fairly slow time of the year for tennis, though things are starting to move with HTA leagues and Tri-Level either underway or on the immediate horizon.

  2. looks to me only two asian players, alain and bobby from the deucebags moved to the creekbags. the rest signed up with chancellors. chancellors' line up look much stronger then creekbags. still dont see borkop or januzzi on any roster. they are key players for either team

  3. I don't think Alain wants Januzzi on his team, but Borkop is welcome.

  4. Alain doesn't have a team any more. He is busy with his baby. Him and Januzzi get along fine.

  5. Why does the Chancellor's team have 22 people on their roster when they could split it up into 2 teams. One of the team could have played in the 5.0 league because there are enough good players on the team to compete.

Could be that they are trying to protect their 4.5 rating, but they are not going to have any competitive matches when they play their best 8 players.

  6. spring and fall league are not competitive anyways. i think creekbags and chancellors are just getting their team lined up and prepared for summer. hung and j.bui would be great one-two punch for singles for chancellors but they are not a sure win

  7. Happy to have all the new faces on board, pun intended:). Welcome!

  8. Creekbags still will be the team to beat. Alain may not be captain but he will have stroke with his old players.

Borkop & Bui will be there in the summer. Creekbags favorite until Freeman unveils his team.

Chancellor will be playoff bound but behind Freeman and Creekbags

  9. creekbags are above average in doubles.
    chancellors are average in doubles.
it all depends on their singles. so who is going to play for creekbags and who is going to play for chancellors. the singles lineup will make all the difference.

    borkop- creekbags?
    bui- chancellors?
    hung- chancellors?
    jim- creekbags?

  10. Really?? who can compete at the 5.0 level on the Chancellor's Team? Are you meaning the 4.5 Plus Spring & Fall Division, or 5.0 Summer USTA? IMO they do not have any players who can compete at the 5.0 level, but I may be wrong.

  12. I was referring to a comment that the Jan 20 poster at 1:28pm made. Well, here's a copy of their post from above.

So, who do they have that could compete at 5.0?

  13. less then 3 months left until summer league kicks off?

any new insider rumors? as far as we know, the duecebags merge with sugarcreek, otherwise known as creekbags. majority of the asian players joined chancellors.

-who will be blacksheep's next star singles player
-who will be red's and freeman's secret weapon and how many teams will they put together
-will lakeside still have a team or are the players up for grabs
    -any new teams forming

  14. I heard that the Katy Coach's may be getting some transfers.

  15. Do tell, who? They did not have a fall or spring team. It makes more sense for the Katy Coaches and Taylor Gypsies to merge. But would the resulting team be stronger?

  16. Why does the HTA have an office? I have been by there a couple of times just to check it out, and no one is ever there. The receptionist where all the tennis stuff was just laughed when I asked her.
