Lakeside

As usual, signups for summer league are slow until the deadline approaches. I did find it interesting that Lakeside Country Club is fielding a summer league 4.5 team. With Tommy Connell, Quack Bui and Stephen Ash they have a solid foundation to build upon. Hopefully we will have another competitive team in a year which looks to be wide open.

  1. This will be Schwing's year. They only lost Carpenter.

  2. carpenter was a big part of the team. who's going to replace him? patterson is a solid #2 singles. lindloff is also a solid #2 singles player

  3. Anyone need a mid-30's 4.0 bump up on their 4.5 team with a bad knee that will only be available part time after June as new kiddo is arriving?

Drop me a note and LMK what the pay is....oh and I can give you flowering press coverage through the blog on how good a captain you are ;)

  4. I agree with the earlier comments about the Schwings. They need to recruit a singles stud, and their doubles teams are not as strong as they once were. They may make the playoffs if they are not in the same flight as either Hurricanes team.

The wildcat is the Kingwood team. Will they have a team and be able to field one competively each week?

You know Freeman/Red have a couple of aces up their sleeves and their teams will have a chance to advance to Sectionals, but not Nationals this year. They lost some talent, but the 3 person limit will break up last year's team.

  5. teams that will make playoffs:
    hurricane a
    hurricane b
    copperfield
    lakeside cc

    might make it:
    schwings- need singles players
    blacksheeps- needs singles players
    duecebags- need singles players
    gtac- need doubles players
    sienna- need doubles players
no way out- need younger players
kingwood-didn't have a spring team, so probably will not exist for summer

    duecebags and ssswhings might not.

  6. Let's make it interesting. I think Betsie's 4.5 team would make the 6-team men's playoffs.

    What do you think?

  7. I don't think Betsie is having a team this year. I talked to Betsie at Tri-Level and she's pretty checked-out from tennis these days.

But to answer the question. No, the best women at any level could not compete with even a middle of the road men's team at the same level.

  8. 4.5 - Hurricanes
    4.0 - Hurricanes

    it is what it is!

  9. I don't know who the best woman's 4.5 player is in Houston, maybe one of the ladies could enlighten us. But you don't think that she can't beat a player like Daniel Kallus, who I consider a is mid level 4.5 player.

  11. For those who know me don't laugh, but I may be looking for a playoff contender Senior team this summer. Historically Copperfield has not had a Seniors 50 yr. old summer team and I'm turning the Big 50 in two months.
Give me a shout if you're on a team or know of a good team who may need my grinder talent.

  12. Jo Keene when she was rated a 4.5

  13. Jo Keene was the best 4.5 computer rated player in Texas ever.

  14. Add Greg Zachary to the Lakeside roster!

  15. seems like lakeside is gobbling up all the talents. how are the other teams going to counteract?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Who is Greg Zachary? Is he that Dallas benchwarmer? Lakeside is a ways away from being in contention for a playoff spot.

  17. Zachary played for Georgia Tech, he should not be allowed to play 4.5

  18. If Zachary indeed played college tennis then I hope that the person that went after Chalkley so bad and got him bumped up will do the same thing against Zachary. What's fair is fair.

  19. If you are talking about the Greg Zachary from Dallas, which it sounds like you are, he's a computer rated player (has been for years) and therefore can be 'went after'.

  20. you mean cant kern?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Yes I meant can't. Thanks for the correction

    ReplyDelete
  22. Kern you played him...is he any good?

    ReplyDelete
  23. He's good but nothing that is out of the ordinary in Houston 4.5.
