Checkin' in.

Austin beat San Antonio in the 4.5 division 4-1 this morning. Josh Torrez beat Mark Hildebrand and Chad Case eased past Chris Doyal. Looks like Austin Wild will be tough to take down as their singles seems rock solid.

Chris Bumann did not play in Abilene's first match. I assume he's not here, even though they're trying to say they're "resting" the nineteen year old. Don't think so. King-sized disappointment as I was looking forward to seeing him test the Hurricanes.

Good day for Houston teams for the most part. Hurricane 4.0 team was outstanding in waltzing through its first two matches, dropping only one line. The Hurricane 4.5 team won 3-2 in its first match in a match that didn't seem quite that close. The Deucebags lost 3-2 as Dat Bui decided not to make the trip, I believe due to work issues. SAP lost a heartbreaker to Waco 3-2, losing the deciding match in a third set breaker. Waco looks like it will have a battle with San Angelo for the semi-final spot.

The Hurricane 5.0 team looked to have things firmly under control in what figured to be their toughest match against Fort Worth, though the match had not yet completed at last report.

  1. Douchebags lost second match too. Basically it's Hasker and a bunch of scrubs. Welcome to 5.0 Adrian.

  2. I had a little different thought on the 4.5 mens match. It looked to me that Houston was lucky to get by NETX 3-2. I heard that line 3 Doubles was in a fight until the NETX player got hurt at 5 all in the second.

  3. Think so? Houston won next round 5-0 against Abilene.

  4. Betsie's team squeeked past Corpus 3-2 however she wasn't firing with all cylinders as it looks like Jesselyn Reed and Kay Estrada did not play.

  5. Eric and I lost the 3rd set breaker against Waco. That may have cost us. All we can do is win out tomorrow and hope that Waco loses to San angelo and that we all end up 3-1 and the math works in our favor.

    Shit.

  6. Houston teams are fairing well at Sectionals. Thus far Houston Hurricanes 4.0/4.5/5.0 all have won their team matches.

  7. The 4.0 women have not faired well but Betsie's 4.5 team is winning as expected.

  8. Semis are set for Men's 4.5: Canes vs Austin and Dallas vs San Antonio

  9. came over to watch some of the 4.5 women play. Houston's 4.5 women dropped 1 game in 3 lines.

  10. Houston's 4.5 team is in the semis, playing Austin at 7AM tomorrow. Hurricanes 4.0 team is also in the semis, facing Waco at the same time. The Hurricane 5.0 squad has made it to the finals as well. Betsie's 4.5 also is in the finals. Let's hope they all pull it out tomorrow.

  11. Wild Houston in Semi's too thanks to San Angelo beating Waco 4-1

    ReplyDelete
  12. Actually the Hurricanes were "Wild Houston", but unless I've been misinformed by multiple people, Waco actually beat San Angelo 4-1 and tennis link may have the scores wrong.

  13. So what's funny is that with a vested interest we went out and watched Waco v. San Angelo. Waco won and there is an error on tennislink that shows the opposite.

We left with Waco taking the third line while drowning our sorrows in coors light all the way home (except our DD).

Best of luck to the rest of Htown tomorrow.

  14. I have my money on both Houston 4.0/4.5 to make it to the final round.

Houston 4.0 should/will sweep paltry Waco team -- their guys are tired from playing all the matches so far.

Houston 4.5 - is there anything to stop them. Guess not!

Good luck to all! Make Houston proud.

  15. Houston has beaten waco 3-2. Sebastian dropped a line and Jamie and Alex as well. Aaron and Tam pulled it out in a 3rd set tiebreaker. I wasn't there but that was the info I got.

  16. 4.5 women beat San Antonio 4-1. 5.0 Men beat Austin. The 4.0 and 4.5 men shouuld complete the Houston 4 titles run.

  17. Just got word that Dallas edged out Hurricanes 4.0 3-2. Good run Hurricanes!

I am sure Freeman is about to have kittens with both teams (4.0 & 4.5) on the court at the same time.

  18. 4.5 Hurricanes headed to VEGAS! They swept the doubles.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Congrats to Houston. Champs in 4.5 and 5.0 and second in 4.0 and Open. Impressive weekend.

  20. Are you kidding me? It was total domination for Betsie's 4.5 Women. They lost 1 game in 3 lines against Austin and 4 games in 3 lines against San Antonio. Something is not right there and the TTA needs to look into it.

    ReplyDelete
  21. And it looks like that was without Cori Mullins and Kaye Estrada. Assuming they have everyone going to Vegas they should win it all at Nationals.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Assume Betsie's team goes to Nationals and loses in round robin play. What will you say then? What does that tell you? On a local level ringers get you by to make it to Nationals, but its a whole different ballgame there and ringers have to be really good.

    ReplyDelete
  23. With those kind of results, that team is pretty stacked. Get real. Lose 4 games in 3 lines of the Finals? Ringers is one thing - domination is another. Even the Men's 4.5 and 5.0 did not have those kind of results.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Congratulations to Freeman especially, almost completing the trifecta. I don't know what is more impressive - captaining three teams to the finals, or doing it from 1000 miles away.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Did you see the 5.0 singles result? Just as good as the 4.5 women.

    ReplyDelete
  26. At least the 5.0 had 1 loss in singles and some 2-1 results. It should be no surprise that Betsie dominated sectionals. She put the work in and deserves to win Sectionals.

  27. Jason Pieters is definitely a 5.0 stud!

Question: Thinking of Freeman and his success. Has the HTA ever considered having Jason and Betsie put together an "All Star" team for each level and captain the team through to Nationals? Guess Jason is pretty much doing that now (except for 3.5). How bout it Betsie?

    ReplyDelete
  28. What were the three teams Freeman captained? I only know of two.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Is the 5.0 team Jason's team or Red's?

    ReplyDelete
  30. 5.0 team is definitely Jason's. Only he can put together such a loaded team. Next year Freeman will have an Open Team.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I looked at the 4.5 and 5.0 winners photos and did not see Freeman. Was he standing in the back? Red was in both photos and Tim Green was in the 4.5 photo.

    ReplyDelete
  32. It's amazing how much power 1 person has over league tennis. He has set such a high standard that no one can keep up. Freeman is da man.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Houston 4.5 won 3-2 four times this weekend. That is how to captain. Way to go Houston. Good job Freeman and Green.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Who will win out of the Houston men's 4.5 and women's 4.5 team?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Depends on who goes. I think Betsie's team at full strength has a better chance then the men

    ReplyDelete
  36. That's a ridiculous question. Freemen's 4.0 team would beat Betsie's 4.5 team

    ReplyDelete
  37. Why doesn't Betsie just put a 5.0 team together. She has dominated 4.0 and 4.5, so why not dominate 5.0 too?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Congrats to all Houston teams and players. It was a great weekend of tennis and all teams represented H'town well.

Special congrats to Betsie and Red as they take teams, once again, to Nationals. I wish I could take some credit for the 5.0 team but I can't...that's all Red. I missed the 4.5 picture by about 5 minutes as I was with the 4.0 team at a different site. The 4.0 team was close but Dallas was just too good today - it could have went either way, Dallas will represent Texas well at Nationals.

It was nice being back in Texas for a weekend (even if it was Dallas :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. Also congrats to SAP for a strong showing. They were a couple points away from the semis. Nice job captain Goodwin!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Congrats to Houston 4.5 for winning today. That one will hurt for a while. We had the table set and could not get it done. I wish you guys the best of luck. You guys truly deserve it.

    Represent,
    Mark Hilderbrand

  41. Hildebrand was in the zone today. He gave San Antonio a shot at the title and anytime you can win back to back singles matches on Sunday you know that it took some digging down deep. He backed up the talk. Good Job Mark

    ReplyDelete
  42. I agree with the last poster.

Mark played an excellent match. Even though he lost to David B. pretty badly 2 years ago, he was able to come up with the goods today. He certainly deserved the win.

Thankfully our 3 doubles teams were so strong. What can you say about teams like Tim and Omon, and Odion and John B. So solid.

Also a shout out to the number 3 team of Matt and Soong Hay. They were down 1-5 in the third set tiebreaker and came roaring back for the win. That is what ultimately gave Houston the victory today.

All credit to Jason, Tim and Red. They know what they are doing.

We look forward to representing TX well.

  43. Can someone post the score of the 4.5 men's finals, not on tennislink...
