Last week

I forgot to mention something about last week's matches. Yes, he's out of practice. Yes, he's not in the shape he once was. But he's still dangerous. Steve Phan ran his career 4.5 singles record to 18-0 last week. In fact, it was the first time he's ever dropped a set.

He's got some work to do, but if his being in the lineup is an indication that he's "getting back into it", things could get interesting come playoff time in 4.5.

  1. steve phan is on top of the food chain in the houston 4.5 league. however, you have to give props to sean lacy for taking a set off of him. if wstc bs would have played bradley against a rusty phan and lacy against rios, they probably would have taken both lines and beaten kingwood. once phan gets back into form, that would be an automatic win for either singles or doubles

  2. If Phan gets back into form he will be a force in 4.5 league. Although, he cannot carry his team to Victory by himself. At the moment I would have to say Crush is still lacking depth in doubles and will struggle at City Playoffs to play their best line-ups every match.

It would be nice to see them at Sectionals but they still have a lot of work to put in before they make the Trip on 45 N.

Asian Invasion plays Double Trouble Dibuas in North Suburban League playoffs. Should be fun.

  3. i agree with the last post. hurricanes are very deep in doubles and singles. however, it will come down to doubles that decide who wins. if it comes down to doubles, then the close match could swing either way.

great match up tomorrow with duecebags vs. sugar creek. winner will have control over second spot.

  4. What would be the strongest doubles line up for the Crush? Assuming Phan/Rios/Bui/Huynh all play singles their doubles lines are vulnerable. Doubles has always been strong but this year they have not implemented any key players to their roster to help them in doubles.

Early prediction is Titans split the singles and Herr,Straley,Hiemstra,Fernandez combos will pull out 2 doubles lines.

  5. Don't forget about Ward. That's at least 1 line for Duecebags to go along with Hasker. They just need to find 1 more.

  6. Ward will not lose. In his mind, he is undoubtedly the strongest tennis player to ever step on to the courts. Any person that is lucky enough to be in his presence should take honor.

  10. I understand that he is out of shape and rusty but I find it interesting that Phan not only lost a set last week, he lost it 6-1. I don't know if that means Lacy played a great match or if Phan is vulnerable to an attacking style since he is not yet sharp. I guess Lacy and Bradly are a pretty good singles lineup if WS could add some depth in doubles.

  11. only thing Crush will be sweeping is the floor when they can't pay their bar tab. No Way Out will rule D2 when night is over. Our doubles lines are 2 tuff!!

  12. Pham is a great player, but he has hurt Houston's chances in the past. He makes a good team great but he hurt Houston by getting a good team to Sectionals, then not going.

  13. WS Black Sheep have a lot of strong doubles players. They have the same problem as Westside NWO, they have a lot of players that travel and can't field their strongest lineup when they need it. Also, they are playing a lot of their same players in the 5.0 league and I think it has hurt them. I expect to see them and Kingwood in the city playoffs.

  14. There are a lot of examples of people like Steve who hurt their teams when it comes to playoff time because they don't make it a priority.
