Signups in full swing.

The league rosters are getting filled up, slowly but surely. As usual, the 4.5 division drags its feet a bit in filling out rosters. Some of that is just procrastination and laziness, while some of it may also be an unwillingness to "show your hand" early.

Quite frankly, right now it appears that 4.5 is not nearly the powerhouse it was supposed to be. In fact, it looks quite weak. I am putting together a team of old, fat, rusty mob squadders, with perhaps a few new additions. Our team will be considerably weaker than in years past but still should be somewhat competitive based on how things look right now. Freeman's team and Kingwood appear the strongest thus far, though there's still plenty of time for things to heat up.

  1. Danny Hanley is the 4.5 ringer to watch this year.

  2. There will be very little communication in here about league rosters etc until the season starts. Summer league is very cut throat and i am sure there are some captains with sleaze up their sleeves.

  3. When does the season start?
Will teams still be allowed to add to their roster during the season (even up to the final 2 weeks)?
Who are some of the other ringers?
What happened to the Hangovers, I don't see anyone on their roster?

  4. I don't think the hangovers are making this year. Nor do I think that Freeman's team is particularly strong when you take into consideration the number of ringers that are purportedly out there this year. Of course, Freeman COULD have a few of those up his sleeve who knows?

Then again, it would be interesting to see everyone have to actually fight it out for the top spot instead of having a bunch of rollovers...

  5. It looks like Freeman took some of Swinggggg players. That either means they don't like the team members, captain, or both.

  6. That would be fun "if" we had a cleaner 4.5 league this year. Kingwood and the Mob Squad will be the teams to beat, regardless as to how much Htown Hacker says they are fat and not up to par.

  11. Do Mob Squad's opponents need to wear body armor and pack heat? Or are they safe as long as they are near a buffet line?

  12. Kingwood will be the run away winner this year. Go Jimmy!

  13. 1. Kingwood

  14. whoare the players on the Kingwood and MET team?

  15. Kingwood's got some new players? I'm sure Jimmy got a good taste of what could have been so maybe he's recruiting like heck.

MET is brand new. That should be interesting. Hope Freeman doesn't get blasted. He's likely got some tricks up his sleeve as well.

Fat MOB? Why would they be playing this season if they truly were? I think they're still going to be tough competitors regardless since they've been through city many times.

Nobody talks about Westside, but obviously when you look at last year, the captain seriously recruited some high end players (fukunaga, Jendek). They seem like a possible stealth team.

Yutts lost Rich. That's no good for them.

Rice could, if they pick up a few solid doubles players be a contender if, of course they have Magid and Kudva. But who knows on that one.

    What's happening at 5.0?

  16. i don't see the mob squad on the list of teams. where are they posted?

  17. Mob Squad is under LLTC-Dwyer. The Met team will probably be the old hangovers from last year with some new addition.

  18. I doubt the MET is the Old Hangovers. Do you see any Hangovers on their roster? And i am sure the Mob Squad will have a solid team. Most of those guys are super competitive, and would not play if they were not going to be.

  19. Kingwood's new addition Juan Lopez is a new stud. I also like Westside and Copperfield. Copperfield WILL be a force to deal with this year.

Kingwood should dominate and the Met will be fun to watch.

  20. Hello..My Name is Brian Smith. I am currently in Austin, but will be moving to Houston in May to work at Copperfield. My rating got bumped down this season to 5.0 and would like to play on a team. I am almost fully recovered from back surgury and am pretty sure my rating will be bumped back up again this year. Sp this year may be my only one for a while. I will be playing on the Austin Open team again this year in hoped of repeating our nationals showing. Please let me know who I should contact there. I would prefer to play on a team northwest. I will be playing alot of the 5.0 tournaments this year and maybe I will meet some of you. Thanks for your help.

  23. Wow nice to see Juan Lopez back down to 4.5, did not realize he moved from Gainesville, TX. He will do well against anyone in the league. He is sneaky good as he does nothing special other than beat his opponents.

  24. Freeman's team looks pretty good.

  26. Sarosh,

Are you seriously only a 4.0 player? If thats the case why would you want to challenge me to a match. I have gone to nationals twice in 5.0's twice in 5.5's and twice in the open level. Sign up for teh copperfield tournament in May if you want to challeneg me and we will see if we can match up. Talk to you soon.

  28. I played ITF as well as futures and the lowest it would let me rate last year was 5.5. How were you able to rate so low? How old are you. I am 29. You know ere I will be working so if you want to come out there and play for beers bring it on.

  29. Brian,

If that is really you posting then welcome to Houston. There are plenty of nice tennis players up in Copperfield, you should find some nice matches.

I can assure you that is not Sarosh posting above. He is a very polite guy and decent player here in Houston that seems to have someone's fancy for blogging purposes. This person continues to post either anonymously or as Sarosh himself on multiple blogs. It is quite sad. Just ignore any Sarosh Ahmed or Daniel Kallus posts you may read (or at least heavily discount them).

    Welcome to Houston!

  30. I think its Fag, I mean Foad posting as Sarosh.

  31. I don't think it is Foad. I think Foad has the same issue Ahmed and Kallus have - someone infatuated with them and trying to stir up as much trouble as possible. Still very sad.
