Congrats to the Hurricane 4.5, Lakeside 4.5, Chancellor's 4.0 and Hurricane 4.0 teams, as all secured berths to Sectionals this weekend.
What stood out for me:
Ed Hess's dominance over Pete Taylor.
Tommy Connell. How old is that guy, anyway?
The other "old man" Ward Jannuzzi winning two singles matches in Sunday's heat to give the Hurricane 4.5 team a slot in the "easy" pool up in Dallas.
Kevin Lotz, who showed he could be competitive at a higher level.
The "David and Goliath" match between Minh Hoang and Musa Salihu.
The Chancellor's 4.0 team, who breezed through the playoffs, winning 23 lines and dropping only two and avenging their losses to the 'Canes while using fewer "starters" in the final match.

you forgot more thing:
ReplyDeleteRIOS SUCK!!!!!!!
It would be stupid for the 4.0 Canes to play Pete in Dallas. He was MYR 4.5 and is sure to get DQd after 1-2 matches.
ReplyDeleteOh wait, hold on... Pete splits sets with everyone so that shouldn't be a problem at all.
Dude, leave Rios alone. He played a good match and lost. I'm not sure why people hate so much.
ReplyDeleteWhy? They didn't run the computer until sectionals was done last year.
ReplyDeleteWhat are the pools for 4.5 sectionals
ReplyDeleteNot quite sure why the TTA chose to have 4 flights of 5 teams with 4 (yes 4) wildcards for 4.0 and only have 3 flights of 4 team with no wildcards for 4.5. That SUX
ReplyDeleteFlight 1 Teams
Valley
San Antonio
SETX
Dallas
Flight 2 Teams
Abilene
Austin
Lubbock
Ft. Worth
Flight 3 Teams
Waco
Houston
Corpus Christi
NOHO
What a whooping Chancellors put on Lakeside yesterday. 5-0. Now that's making a statement.
ReplyDeleteMusa failed the random drug test after the match anyway.
ReplyDeleteWhat pool is houston wild card goingin 4.5. Since only 3 pools looks like no room
ReplyDeleteMy guess is Houston go the WC based on whichever team is not going btw SETX and NOHO
ReplyDeletelol big guys like musa can never handle the heat
ReplyDeleteWhat is musa doing playing tennis? With his build, he should be playing league softball, football and basketball. 130 mph serve for sure...
ReplyDeleteOk, looking back on the season including the weekend who were the top 5 singles players and doubles teams in 4.5? Any surprises in there?
ReplyDeleteit's safe to say the top 6 singles are:
ReplyDeletehess, kudrick, bui, puma, taylor, sanborn
As one of the captains that was in contention for the 4.5 wild card, I heard rumors that the Houston wild card is not as solid as it seems. In particular, there is some funkiness going on in NOHO and SETX that is not completely settled. In particular, one team is in competition for, but not 100% guaranteed a berth in both sections.
ReplyDeleteIf I was Steve Ash, I might confirm with TTA directly that Houston is 100% assured of a wild card at 4.5. My fear is that TTA offered the wildcard to Houston before becoming aware of all of the issues in SETX and NOHO.
Leave Musa alone, he is nice guy
ReplyDeleteThis blog has gotten out of hand with all the personal attacks and inappropriate comments.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to not having to wade through all the crap to find the useful info now that the season is over.
There is definitely a wild card in 4.5. It was given to Houston. All the issues about Noho and SETX have been resolved and are irrelevant. Just wish we could have seen a Hess vs Pumma match up.
ReplyDeleteHess would of beat Puma and Quack would of cleaned Ward's clock.
ReplyDeleteWhy didn't Hess or Quack play? Not like they wasted a lot of energy on their matches against Taylor and Rios. Why not try to win the finals against the Canes?
ReplyDeleteBlast talked too much trash against hess and quack. They went out and took care of business. Lakeside made sectionals. Hurricanes kept it classy all season and made no personal attacks against lakeside. Otherwise they would have put their best line up. Both teams have advanced and moving forward
ReplyDeleteSo what pool is houston wildcard going in?
ReplyDeleteLOL. If Lakeside rolled over to the Hurricanes because the Hurricanes were "nice" to them, they are fools. The bracket for the Houston winner is significantly easier than the Houston wild bracket.
ReplyDeleteLooks to me like the Canes just had better depth.
Honestly, Lakeside has Hess, Quack and Connell/Wright. Beyond that they are weak. The fact that they cratered in a second match in the heat doesn't bode well for Dallas.
ReplyDeleteI agree with 2:01, they cleaned house with 4 players and would of beaten canes too.
ReplyDeleteDoesnt matter which Sectionals bracket is easier does it? you will have to play the best teams at some point along the way anyway?
ReplyDelete2:05 - Have ever been to Sectionals or played in a tournament? Teams and players win tournaments all of the time without beating the "best" team. Upsets happen. Multiple matches a day in the heat takes its toll.
ReplyDeleteIf Lakeside replaces SETX, their pool will include Dallas, San Antonio and Valley. Dallas and San Antonio have very good teams. The Cane's pool is Corpus, NOHO and Waco. All three of those team suck.
Wanna guess which team is more likely to win it's pool and be fresher for the semis?
sectionals is 3 weeks away. both teams need practice. why dont both captains set up a friendly hess vs puma and quack vs januzzi. the match to watch is quack vs puma, this will be a marathon match
ReplyDeleteHess is on a different level than everyone else except for perhaps Kudrick. Hess needs to work on his heat conditioning if he skipped the finals due to administering a 6-2,6-2 beating to Taylor. If he was in condition and didn't play, Lakeside is going to rue that decision mightily once they get into pool play at Sectionals.
ReplyDeleteNo more trashing talking from the Ducebags... incredible. Their days as a quality team is far gone when they lost Aadrian, Dat, and Hung… unless they pick up some singles players. Their doubles are ok, but they can never guarantee 2 doubles win. Sugar creek is similar to the Ducebags, they are a one hit wonder. They made sectionals one year similar to Ducebags, but cannot back it up with a return trip the next year. Both those teams need singles players desperately.
ReplyDeleteAs for Copperfield and Westside, they have limitation because they cannot recruit from outside their clubs. They seems to always come up short. Swingggg’s team seems to be aging since they cannot make the playoffs. Lakeside has 3 good lines, the others are not guarantee wins. Blast seems like they are up and coming, I’m sure they will do some more recruiting. They are the Lakeside of last year, the new team on the block and barely missed sectionals.
Canes will not make it out of their bracket.
ReplyDeleteits call team tennis, not just the hess/bui, wright/connell show. if the teams wins, everyone wins, if they lose, everyone loses. but it's very nice to have a solid and reliable 3 wins from the start.
ReplyDeleteI forgot about the Canes... they too need singles players. Although Puma, Foster, Januzzi, and Morton are good singles players. They need the quality level singles players of a Hess or Kudrick. I expect the Canes to lose perhaps in their bracket or in the semi's bc their doubles are beatable too.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to see Kudrick vs Hess.
ReplyDeleteAgree with 2:42
ReplyDeleteAlthough the score for Hess and Taylor was 2 and 2 it didn't indicate how tough the points were. I saw Hess play last year and he played up to another level this year to beat Taylor. Taylor appeared to step it up a bit but Hess was just incredible yesterday.
ReplyDeleteBefore this blog goes on a little lesson in English:
ReplyDelete"would have" => "would've"
The next person to write "would of" is banned from any further league play, until he finishes elementary school.
Quit with the excuses about CField not being able to recruit outside of their club. They have repeatedly added non-member players to all of their teams Mixed, Men's, and Women's. They are definitely not above trying to pay for a winning team.
ReplyDeleteWhy did Hurricane 4.0 loses to Chancellor 4.0 in the final? Are Chancellor scrubs better than Hurricane scrubs or is the WC bracket at sectional easier for the Cane? Inquirer minds wants to know.
ReplyDeleteAnd don't get me the BS about eventually they will play the a strong team. Yes, but they have to make it out of their sectional bracket to be in SF/F bracket at sectional.
Yeah funny no comments from the Deucebags at all. Not for sure why Dbags didn't have Donnie Bishop or Greg Schmucker playing singles at all this past weekend. Looks like a big blunder for Dbags since they needed a big win on Saturday. Almost ranks up there when Copperfield had Faggard playing singles for the first round. Bishop and Schmucker are the two best singles players on the Dbags and did not even play. I guess Dbags got what they deserved for that.......a loss.
ReplyDeletecry me a river you haters!
ReplyDeleteTam Pham has the best serve in 4.5 tennis
ReplyDeleteand the worst returns also
ReplyDeleteChansellors magic...
ReplyDeleteOk… So can you tell me what is wrong with this picture?
4.5 Rated Matches won in 2011
George Guadalupe Ross - 4 of 4
David Frederick - 5 of 7
Alex Au-Yeung - 3 of 4
Kiet S. Nhan - 4 of 5
Meng-Chr Tsai - 3 of 3
Yienchen Lu - 4 of 4
Quang Hoang - 3 of 3
Jeremy Lopez Ang - 3 of 5
Jeff Lin - 6 of 7
Let me start by saying that I am a 4.5 player playing in the 4.5 division and my team did not make it to the playoffs!
With that disclaimer out of the way, 9 of the 21 members of the Chancellors “4.0” team have winning records in the “4.5” spring league….. yes, yes - I know the HTA spring league isn’t taken all to seriously right ? ….RIGHT !
But that said .. all of these guys below beat some pretty decent players /teams. I congratulate them all on making it to Dallas this weekend and specially their Capt.. He has really found the magic formula in keeping the same guys year after year playing 4.0 -
The better question is not the how does he do it but the why do they continue to get away with it?
All of us who have played them in the past, say 3 yrs have seen all kinds of shenanigans on and off the court come out of these group of guys. From horrendous line calls, and terrible sportsmanship to the unforgivable time when one of their teammates falsely identified himself as a 4.0 when in fact he was a 4.5 players playing under the 4.0 player’s name. Some of you may recall this as it prompted a change in USTA rules that would allow Captains to ask for USTA cards and matching “photo” ID’s prior to a match. Or wait was that the Smokers team out of LLTC .. that did that??? They also fit the same profile with similar tomfoolery on the courts.
I don’t blame Chancellors, I am not mad at them… although I have ZERO respect for them. I am however livid with Houston’s HTA/USTA section. There is nothing I can do about it exempt vent on forums like this …
My 2 cents -
Mr. L

Wow, 3:39 pm sounds like a little bitch.
ReplyDeleteSorry, you don't get any sympathy from me. I don't particularly like Chancellors and am well aware of their deceitful ways.
ReplyDeleteThe basic flaw in your analysis is to treat the HTA 4.5 spring and fall leagues as being a benchmark of 4.5 ability. The "real" 4.5 players play in the 4.5+ leagues in the spring and fall. Any of these Chancellors guys would and do get crushed by average 4.5s.
Spring/fall 4.5 HTA leagues are composed of bad 4.5s and good 4.0s. The fact that these players won in them just means that they are good 4.0s and likely to do well in 4.0 summer league.
These guys are all legitimate 4.0's. Maybe you should be playing 3.5. Quit being so delusional. Guys like you and Woo Woo and several other people who complain all the damn time are just sore losers. We dont need your effin respect. I'll take the W everytime sucka. To quote the great poet DJ Khaled, "All I do is win win NGUYEN no matter what"
ReplyDeleteChancellor's much hyped 4.5 team depended on too many 4.0 bump-ups and got punched in the mouth during summer league play. The bottom line is Chancellors has a lot of good 4.0 players who are just careful to manage their records to stay there.
ReplyDeleteMusa is a disgrace to all of Nigeria.
ReplyDeleteForget you Hakeem, Musa is my dude
ReplyDeleteMinh Hoang for President
ReplyDeleteHurricanes lost two Chancellors fo three reasons:
ReplyDelete1. Bracket
2. Red Flags
3. Players trying to stay in 4.0 for 2012.
Prediction Greg Dwyer will not play sectionals. He will probably sit out to protect his 4.0 rating because he knows if he plays and wins he is bumped.
ReplyDeleteI'm a 4.5 player and I didn't think Chancellor was that good. Again 4.0 to 4.5 is a big difference.
ReplyDeleteDid Greg Dwyer tank yesterdays match?
ReplyDeleteYou guys know damn well I wasnt playing for real yesterday vs Chancellors.
ReplyDeletelol at 3:50.....go look at who plays 4.5 spring league....it's mostly 4.0 guys playing 4.0 guys.
ReplyDeletehurricanes tanked the finals to get a better draw in dallas...
ReplyDeleteThese Asians talk so much crap on this blog.
ReplyDeletePhil Kerig taught Musa how to volley
ReplyDeleteAt least the Asian guys have the balls to post their names when commenting
ReplyDeleteMusa scares me. Me too
ReplyDeleteIn every match of the season -- playoffs included, lakeside has had wins other than bui/hess/connell/wright...the other lines have been just as key to the team's success
ReplyDeleteArrata Yamaguci is the biggest tanker in 4.0s he needs to play 4.5s for sure, its okay winning is more important than being challenged to some people who can't handle a loss, that is unless the loss was done on purpose because your a freeman puppet. How do you move at the net with all of them strings on your back?
ReplyDeleteThere's a whole list of Freeman's puppets -
ReplyDeletecare to name them?
My boi Gucci is innocent. Go play in traffic.
ReplyDelete5:54 PM, please explain how the Hurricanes got in a better draw by "tanking" the final against Chancellors? There are 4 wild card spots spread out among 4 pools and the TTA has not released which pool each wild card will go in. Its easy to say they didn't play their best lineup (neither did Chancellors), which is a class act by both captains, but what "better draw" are you referring to?
ReplyDeleteIn the 4.5 final, neither team played their best lineup either. I guess Lakeside 4.5 was tanking as well.
Congrats to Freeman, Mai and Ash! Don't listen to the uninformed bullshit that gets thrown around here. It doesn't take to long to determine that the posters here are clueless. Good luck in Dallas!
i think the average age of lakeside 4.5 is around 45. regular season, the doubles had a record of 24-2. 12-4 in playoffs, one was lost connell/wright retiring after finding out they made sectionals. these guys can play some tennis.
ReplyDeleteI have no respect for chancellors 4.0 because they won and should be playing 4.5. I have no respect for lakeside 4.5 either because they won and are a bunch of tankers that should have been playing 5.0.
ReplyDeleteThat dam Federer must be using some tomfoolery because he's always number 1. Actually I heard he tanked to Djokovic over a 600k side deal.
The usta should ban the 2.5 to 5.5 system and should just do a weight class (eg heavy weight vs light weight) for all these crybabies out there.....so who's in weight the class with Red Benzon...
A very reliable source just informed me that Musa is the twin brother of Aadrian Hasker.
ReplyDeleteA reliable source tells me that 90% of all blogs written in the past 12 hours were written by 1 person.
ReplyDeleteYou know who you are!! :)
Whoever he is, one thing for sure is he's a scrub hating on others. Highly skilled player would not talk this much crap.
ReplyDeleteSmall things amuse small minds.
ReplyDelete@3:03 - That is total BS; You absolutely must be a Copperfield member to play on their league team. There were one or two cases maybe a decade ago where non-members slipped onto their league team, but that was shut down, and rosters have been monitored ever since. There are different levels of membership, and some people pay the cheapest membership just during the summer in order to join the league team, which is totally legitimate.
ReplyDeleteJelly?
ReplyDeleteGUILLA!
I was a player at the Playoffs this past weekend. I was approached by a Copperfield former captain asking if I wanted to play on their team next season. I was told they would pay for my membership and all I had to do was play. 3:03 is correct. Copperfield is definitely not above trying to pay for a winning team.
ReplyDeleteI was too. I was told I could play on their team and they would pay my membership. I'm pretty sure Lance paid for Abbe to play on his Mixed team and offered the same deal to Emily Jacobs last year or the year before. Pretty sure same for Lindsey Duncan and Daryl Hall on the 4.0 Women's team
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think Red does... he pays people to play.
ReplyDeleteCopperfield has recently added a new membership level which allows league play only. The member pays x amount per month per team. It's an option that other private facilities offer.
ReplyDeleteCopperfield paid for me to not ever stop playing for The Good Guys
ReplyDeleteTennis Prostitution....love it! Its like Donkey-Ong all over again!
ReplyDeleteNot sure if this is news or just news to me, but looks like HTA found a new league coordinator.
ReplyDeleteAllison B. McLendon is the new league coordinator.
Here is FB summary:
https://www.facebook.com/abmclendon
Best of luck to Allison in her role as HTA coordinator.
Damn! How much for her?
ReplyDeleteIf I ever learn how to volley or hit a backhand Houston Tennis will be in trouble. F U Minh Hoang, u cheating dwarf
ReplyDeletePick on someone ur own size Musa. I dare you
ReplyDeleteCopperfield is a nice facility and a good group of guys and gals. If they would have had Kent and Patel then they may have made a run at it this year. I'm sure every Captain has to try and do what's best for the team in order to be competitive. Whether or not they pay players fees is their own business. It happens on almost every team that is trying to reach the next level.
ReplyDeleteFor all you Chancellor hater; all their player going to be benchmark at 4.5; so how the he!! do you think they are going to stay together 2011. Not to mention most of their top players are already bumped to 4.5 midyear.
ReplyDeleteAlso if you looked at the big USTA matches that Chancellor's 4.5 played this year; they are true 4.5 players with 1 or maxed 2 recent 4.0 bumped-up. So, cry me a river, I'm waiting for a flood.
Musa you ugly SOB, say that to my face. Stop losing to 5 footers and getting mad about it.
ReplyDelete5 footer? Minh is 4 foot tops.
ReplyDeleteWhy did Troy Gor stay 4.5 midyear?
ReplyDeleteBecause Gor only 4 foot 5
ReplyDeleteI love white women
ReplyDeleteKudo's to Sam Ahn (CF Lobsters)for his one 4.5 playoff win in the heat and keeping his second Sunday match close.
ReplyDelete63 years old and still kicking some butt in HTA/USTA.
I'm back like cooked crack... wait the seasons over? Fml
ReplyDeleteJoseph Mai is not a gangsta, he is a nice guy and is the epitome of class you jerkoff
ReplyDeleteNot that gansta fool... the fat bald one.
ReplyDeleteoh you mean the one that's undefeated thru the playoffs?
ReplyDeletethe one that couldnt make it in 4.5 and now is struggling in 4.0?
ReplyDeleteThere was some pretty competetive tennis on the womans side. I personally think some of the womens 4.5 could give the mens 4.0 a run for their money!!!
ReplyDeleteI was out for the match between Betsie and Dena's team. Betsie's line 1 doubs team was about the best team I've ever seen on the Women's side.
ReplyDeleteThat was one of the best matches I've seen in the entire playoffs. Men's included. They made Kai and Terri look like beginners.
ReplyDeleteWhat makes someone a gangsta on a tennis court?
ReplyDeleteSome of those "females" look like males and some of those males play like females. Ahem cough cough (JCC)
ReplyDeletea "gangsta" on the tennis court is someone who carries himself like a gentleman and plays the game with style and grace. and it also means he is going to sectionals.
ReplyDeleteSome of the women were extremely ripped and looked like males. The USTA should implement a mandatory driver's license check to make sure that in fact the player was a female and not a male.
ReplyDeleteNo offense to the women's league as there were quite a few attractive ladies out there.
That's laughable. Isn't this the THUG who jumped Red in the parking lot.
ReplyDeletePersonal attacks are useless on here. Let your raquet do the talking. Im talking a singles match. Oh wait, you can only win with the help of your moaning lover in doubles. You know who you are. Gangsta? lol try wankster...no...chankster.
ReplyDeleteWow if the USTA checked the Men's side they would kick everyone out for being pussies
ReplyDeleteTuan and Red are friends
ReplyDeleteMusa is a stand up guy. Always pays on time
ReplyDeleteTran and Hangoc are nice guys. I played them this year. Not exactly a 4.0 powerhouse but they did win
ReplyDeleteChancellors finally has a little success and this is how they act. Joseph Mai is a stand up guy but his team is obviously immature.
ReplyDeleteYour mother is immature
ReplyDeleteDid anyone notice how quiet the obnoxious Hangoc was this past weekend? I wish we could shut that fuqer up like that all the time
ReplyDeleteGo Babu!
ReplyDeleteWill the Houston 4.0/4.5 teams fair well at Sectionals? Seems to me Dallas will be very dominant again. Kind of unfair sectionals OS always held there.
ReplyDeleteIt's bc Dallas is so amazingly lame so they have to have special events like these so that people will come to their city otherwise it would just be occupied by a bunch of inbreeding Cowboy fans
ReplyDeleteGood to hear from Dirk on the blog. I've been told he does not have a rating but can play 5.0 tennis. Red - you better get him on the phone.
ReplyDeleteChancellor's captain is a stand up guy?!? What a joke! I know his wife and he's just as sleazy as the other captain's you complain about. He's like Obama but he actually succeeded. A fake, sleazy cheating, politician. Just because he looks like a Teddy bear drinking a beer, smiling doesn't make one a "stand up guy". It's easy to smile and drink beer when you are winning and it's easy to win when you cheat.
ReplyDeleteIts nice to see that others are getting the wrath of the blog besides the usual suspects.
ReplyDeleteJust bc someone is Asian and you can't beat them in a game of tennis doesnt make them sleazy. Typical hillbilly comment
ReplyDeleteFinally some truth comes out about chancellors. I hear he's friends with freeman. Maybe this Mai guys his mini me. That team is full of cheaters who change their names when they get bumped up or self rate. This new dominance of chancellors is just another hurricane team with a likable, fake captain who is just as corrupt, so they are easier to not criticize.
ReplyDeleteHe's not sleazy because he's Asian, he's sleazy because he cheats.
ReplyDeleteWhy is everyone hating on da Teddy bear? They just toasted the 4.0 playoffs with ease. Maybe they're not 4.5 but you're 3.5.
ReplyDeleteHarold,
ReplyDeleteYou really need to layoff with the racist remarks. Racism is bad in every corner, but it even worse coming from a member of the HTA Committee.
PS: IP addresses do get recorded so tracking is easy.
Oh I'm sorry I didn't know.
ReplyDeleteIts funny how all the remarks towards Asian people get to stay on this blog but comments regarding white people get deleted immediately
ReplyDeleteI have not edited out any racist comments one way or another. Not sure where you are getting your (dis)information.
ReplyDeleteThe only people that can track IP addresses on this blog are Greg and myself.
I personally would have to carve out time to support this activity and don't have it.
Actually, I think it's good that people know that their IP addresses are logged. Might instill a little restraint in the more extreme commenters.
ReplyDeleteWay to kill the blog
ReplyDeleteLOL. It's not gonna kill the blog. I have no problem with Hacker knowing who I am. He's treat this blog in a very reasonable manner up to now and has no incentive to do otherwise.
ReplyDeleteI've sent in many comments ranting and raving about things having to do with Houston league tennis that I wouldn't necessarily want to have publicly attached to my name. But I like the opportunity to air some of my gripes anonymously.
I've got no problem with calling people out for repeatedly making racist, derogatory comments. It keeps the blog halfway civil. And, finally, let me note that both the 11:50am and 12:10pm post could be totally faked since Hacker didn't post under his blog name.
The blog is great. Ranting and raving is what the blog is all about. It is a great source of information and mis-information.
ReplyDeleteWho's a good player, who's not a good player, which team is stacked, who made/makes bad line calls...what captains seem to be in the know. 2nd guessing line-ups and recruiting and sandbaggers.....concerns about league, HTA...etc
The blog thrives on this kind of dialogue. Making fun of people's tennis ability or captaining is fine and fair game...the rest not so much
Hacker allows racist white comments as hillbilly and inbreeding Cowboy, but delete comments about Tuan. That guy is the biggest trash talker.
ReplyDeleteEd Hess vs Kudrick, who would win?
ReplyDeleteIf Hess played the way he played last weekend, I'd go with Hess.
ReplyDeleteHacker and that punk are bff's
ReplyDeleteMusa vs. Schwarzenegger, who'd win? I'm asking both on and off the court.
ReplyDeleteHess vs Cuong Truong?
ReplyDeleteKudrick is really tough though. Also, I have to send out to props to Puma. He played great tennis against Kudrick on Sunday.
ReplyDeleteNever seen Puma go for so many shots and attack the net. Way to step it up a level.
Musa was pissing in his shorts vs a little 9 year old boy. A more fair match would be Musa vs Justin Bieber
ReplyDeletePumma suffers from a major case of SBU that's why he played with so much energy and passion vs Hess
ReplyDeletePuma didn't play against Hess.
ReplyDeletehess and kudrick are on the same level. puma would have lost badly to hess as well.
ReplyDeletehess kudrick taylor, they all look the same to me
ReplyDeletewhat is SBU?
ReplyDeleteSperm Build Up
ReplyDeleteTaylor didn't look on the same level as Hess. Maybe Taylor had a bad day or Hess just got hot, but Hess thumped him pretty soundly. Unless Hess tears up Sectionals, Taylor may end up 4.5 next year.
ReplyDeletetaylor was good, but look at his previous results. not as dominating as you think. the only dominating score was against james bui. so the overall match against hess, you would expect the score. looking at kudrick's result against his opponent. hess vs kudrick would be the real battle.
ReplyDeletesolid 5.0 singles: kudrick,hess
ReplyDeletesolid 4.5-5.0 singles: taylor,puma,quack,sanborn
Kevin Lotz is just one of MANY people in the league that can compete at a higher level. Anyone care to name names???
ReplyDeleteI played with a couple of 4.5 players yesterday. Not too sure about my 4.5 rating...I'm probably a 4.25.
ReplyDeleteLotz is irrelevant until he steps up to 4.5.
ReplyDeleteTaking candy from babies isn't that hard.
Rest assured he is not playing 4.0 anymore for those of you crying about it.
ReplyDeleteI don't think you hear any 4.5s crying at the prospect of Lotz playing up. Teaching pros who sandbagged at 4.0 and get their asses kicked at 4.5 when they get bumped up are a dime a dozen.
ReplyDeleteThe better question is whether Lotz's ego can handle losing since most sandbaggers don't like getting beat.
Where is the 2'1'' foot gangsta? This blog is getting boring.
ReplyDeleteDu ma my trang
ReplyDeletedu ma short gansta wannabe
ReplyDeleteHaha way to kill the blog.
ReplyDeleteANyone have Troy Gor's contact info? I understand he lives in Houston or Bellaire and has been playing out of Sienna.
ReplyDeleteCheck the HTA member directory. It usually has an email address and a phone number. (You need to login as an HTA member to access it.)
ReplyDeleteTroy can be found at the leather bar close to the corner of Westheimer and Montrose on Friday and Saturday evenings after 11:30pm.
ReplyDeleteThis blog is sad
ReplyDeleteI just saw Victor le getting privates from shagon at le leclear... he was striking the shit out of the ball, I'd watch out for him in the fall season.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure that the pro always makes the student looks good. Next time you see Victor make sure to let him know that its not how hard you strike the ball, but its where you strike it.
ReplyDelete7:30 sounds like a terrible player
ReplyDeleteYea, 7:30 is probably in 3.5s for sure.
ReplyDelete6:09 - I tend to strike the ball like shit, and it flies out.
ReplyDeleteNew thread please .
ReplyDeleteDo any of the teams going up to sectionals have a shot at advancing to Sunday? Sounds like Betsie's team is really good this year. Anyone else? Have the wild card placements been determined?
ReplyDeleteI just saw Betsie over the weekend. They have a lot of injured players. I think the 4.5 guys have a chance to get to Sunday mainly because they have a soft flight.
ReplyDeleteThe 4.0 guys should be a legitimate contender if they have their full roster. Greg, how do the 4.0 hurricanes match up for sectionals and what flight are they in?
ReplyDeleteThe 4.5 guys as stated earlier have an easy flight to advance out of but can't play with the big boys from fort worth or dallas.
I don't think either of the 4.0 women's team have a chance to do anything. Maybe Lisa's team but not likely
ReplyDeleteIt will definitely be a down year for Houston. I think a blogger posted a while back that Houston won't do well this year across the board. We'll see, anything can happen.
No discussions on mid year ratings this year. I guess city wide took out all the steam out of mid year ratings.
ReplyDelete5:52
ReplyDeleteAre you saying Dena's 4.0 team sucks?
I'm saying for a team to do well at Sectionals they have to dominate locally. Neither team did that. Both teams were close to getting upset in several matches. So if that means Dena's 4.0 team sux then yeah they do.
ReplyDeleteWhat about the mens NoHo team going to sectionals? How will they do?
ReplyDelete9:44
ReplyDeleteI assume you're on a team that isn't going to Sectionals.
Actually, 10:27 you're the one who has probably never gone because if you had you'd know what it takes.
ReplyDelete27: No! It's you!!!
ReplyDelete14: Nooooo!!! Youuuuuu!!!!
27: Nooo! YOOOUUUUUUUUU!!
14: YOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!
....shut the front door.
Here's my rank of teams chances to make it to Sunday
ReplyDeleteMen's 4.5
Women's 4.5
Men's 4.0
Men's 5.0
Women's 4.0
Ironically, rank changes after getting to Sunday. I think if Betsie's team makes it to the Finals they will win. She's in the harder flight and has to get through San Antonio to get there.
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard any complaining of any real ringers out of Houston this year. Are there any going up to sectionals?
ReplyDeleteThe blog is filled with mostly Haters so no one is willing to admit, after all the bitchin - that the revised DNTRP calculations has made the league better.
ReplyDeleteThe revised self-rating rules made the difference, not any DNTRP stuff. The experienced players guidelines are more stringent and the rule that required self-rating at your last active rating made sandbagging harder. As a captain, I'm happy with those changes.
ReplyDeleteOf course, 4.5 men's USTA still spans an incredibly wide range of talent. The victims of the mass 4.0 bumpups are still getting beaten to a pulp regularly by established 4.5s. Sucks to be them.
Does anyone know if the Fall League will count towards 2011 YERs? They were supposed to last year but Catherine messed up.
ReplyDeleteHey Dumb Fuck 10:21 - the self-rate guidelnes is all a part of the USTA's adjustments to DNTRP. What a dumb shit. Since the USTA is admittedly not perfect and didn't design a perfect system there have been some tweeks along the way. It's called progress not perfection.
ReplyDeleteI would consider Yamaguchi, Halani, Vu, and Rios all 4.0 ringers for that Hurricanes team although I am pretty sure Halani is hurt and Rios is ineligible for 4.0 because he played 4.5 playoffs aready.
ReplyDeleteRios can play for the 4.0 team since his 4.5 team did not advance. Don't be surprised to see him in the Lineup. The real question is will he be able to protect his rating
ReplyDeleteAlso you forgot about Lotz
ReplyDeleteLOL@10:21 - I think that someone got his feelings hurt. So, are you from HTA or the TTA? I know that all of those rules are confusing, but you can always call Red or Freeman to have them figure it out for you.
ReplyDeleteWord on the street was that Troy Gor is training to make Freeman's 4.5 team in 2012. He was up 6-1, 5-4 when the crowd that gathered had to leave to meet Babu at Hooters on 59 for another round of brewskis and golf.
ReplyDeleteWord on the street is that you are an idiot
ReplyDeleteWord to yo mutha

ReplyDeletelet's start a new post analyzing the sectionals flights and discuss stengths / weaknesses of each team.
ReplyDeleteOne item of interest is that Both San Antonio and Dallas have recent posts on how to protest your rating. They have some Jr. College players on the roster for Sectionals.
