The 4.5 playoffs got underway last night. I suppose there was a mild upset as the Black Sheep took down Copperfield 3-2, but everything else went according to form.
I haven't seen the "box score", but I heard Arin Faggard played singles for Copperfield. That's a head scratcher, for me. Where were Patel and/or Martinez or even McMullen?
Also MIA were Muhala and Ellingsen as the Gypsies put up little resistance for the Blast, getting shut out. Another good win for Kiser/Giordanelli, who beat the veteran team of Regent/Li in three sets.
Perhaps NumbersGuy could tell me, and if I have a chance today I will do some research, but I would guess that the team that sweeps the singles win postseason matches close to 95 percent of the time (yeah, I know the Hurricane 4.5 exception a coupla' years ago). Greg Schmucker did his best to get the singles split, but Quack Bui was a little better and Lakeside prevailed.
A nice win for Roberto Narajos over Jason Cooney for the 4.5 Hurricanes. The number two singles spot is a question mark for the 'Canes, and Narajos may be an answer. He certainly has the talent, but I was unsure of his fitness level for singles. I'm sure Cooney made him hit a lot of balls...
The 4.0 matches were even less surprising. Chancellor's dominated, the Unicorns swept, the Hurricanes rolled and Lakeside cruised. It's looking like Sunday morning will feature two matches for all the marbles when Chancellor's/Lakeside and Hurricanes/Unicorns butt heads.
Kevin Lotz again dominated for the Unicorns. He may be the best 4.0 player in the city.
Sienna's Nicholas Lucidi was ruled ineligible and his win over Lakeside last week was reversed. He had already advanced in the postseason with a team from Baton Rouge and was thus not eligible to play for another playoff team, so last week's double bagel gets stricken from the record.

If two teams were equally matched and each line were a coin flip, then the team that swept singles would win 87.5% of the time. But looking back through a few years of 4.0 playoffs, the team that swept singles was 32-1, or 97%. This suggests that if you sweep singles, it's probably because you have a superior team (duh) and the matches are not coin flips by any means. I'm off to the Davis Cup so that's the best I can do for a few days.
ReplyDeleteNG
Brilliant captaining Sienna!
ReplyDeleteIs Greg Jones playing 4.5 or 5.0? He's done some considerable damage at 5.0 and would seriously increase the Canes chances.
ReplyDeleteJones is playing 5.0. Seems like all the teams are a little weaker this year.
ReplyDelete#1 Blast
#2 Lakeside
#3 Canes
#4 Black Sheep
Nice to see there are a few people who have ethics
ReplyDeleteYeah, except that Jones should have rated 6.0. Didn't he play for Texas Tech
ReplyDeleteSienna sucks.
ReplyDeleteChancellors are a bunch of scrubs, they don't have matching uniforms
ReplyDeleteDuecebags came up short, but looked like with two very close matches they could have pulled it out. Can they show up for Blast on next Saturday?
ReplyDeleteDeucebags are basically terrible. They have one Sectionals Level player in Tran. That's it. Last year they had Hasker and still got embarassed in Dallas.
ReplyDeleteDeucebags didn't make it to Sectionals last year, they went in 2009. I don't think any of the Houston teams will make it out of their pool this year.
ReplyDeleteYour right. My bad. I just looked it up. Hasker was 3-0. The rest of the team was 2-10. Tran won both of those two. Case closed.
ReplyDelete7:22... captaining is a difficult task, NEVER AGAIN for many many reasons. Moving forwards, Sienna will no longer be fielding league teams after July 16-17.
ReplyDeleteRK
Hey RK, what's up with Sienna no longer fielding teams? Was this a decision by the community association? It seems like you guys have a large base of players.
ReplyDeleteBTW, you are right about captaining being a pain in the ass so don't let the negative comments bother you.
Tran played singles?
ReplyDeleteRonnie, do NOT pack it in. Small setback. It's happened to all of us, we learned from it, and did better each year. We need more decent people like you captaining.
ReplyDeletePK
Losing 4-1 really hurt the Deucebag's chances. Minimally, they are going to have beat the Blast 4-1 to have any chance of advancing.
ReplyDeleteBased the first round's results, 4.5 pool #1 is going to come down to the Sunday's match between the Blast and Lakeside. I hope that Hess and Taylor end up playing. It should be a great match.
Yes, captaining does require many hours of time and commitment. I found myself spending many hours at work just researching and talking about league tennis. That is why i stopped captaining and just rather play and help out the team whenever i can. However it does suck not having control of the team.
ReplyDeleteWho will Babu play for now?
ReplyDeleteyour momma.
ReplyDeleteBabu plays with your momma
ReplyDeleteI know your friends with Regent/Li but give it a rest. They are no longer a strong 4.5 doubles team. There 4-5 years pass their glory days. Nobody will ever claim they are sandbagging in 4.5s. Maybe next year if they play 4.0 with Vu you can tell us how good they are in 4.0s.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, are there any 4.5 sandbagging doubles teams this season? Connell and Wright maybe?
ReplyDeleteIt's hard not to have JCC as the favorite at this point in 4.5. They have had the hardest schedule and best performances so far. They were smart to boot Henegan early in the year. I also think their success will translate to a deep run at sectionals. It might just be their year.
ReplyDeleteThe Hurricanes have complete control of 4.5 pool #2. They thumped Sugarcreek and the only things surprising about the Copperfield/Black Sheep match was how weak both of their lineups were.
ReplyDeleteThe Hurricanes will breeze into the finals well rested. Given their lack of depth, the probable winners of pool #2 (Lakeside or the Blast) will be easy pickings for the Canes.
I heard Blake Adrian is underage...
ReplyDeleteI give a lot of credit to the JCC Blast. They've got a strong 1-2 on Taylor and Medford. They also have a solid 1,2,3 doubles lines. Only problem I see is they lack some depth that every team has to have. If they win their pool then we will see what their team is made of. I'm sure that a Hess vs Taylor match up will be a very high level match.
ReplyDeleteAdrian is under the legal age to drink. He is of age to kick ass in league though.
ReplyDeleteKevin Lotz is not the best 4.0 player, he is the best 4.5 player in the city.
ReplyDeleteMedford is officially an old fart that lost 2 steps now, he's doubles only and would get smoked in singles, a non factor basically...
ReplyDeleteLotz could not compete with the likes of Taylor,Hess,Kudrick. Don't think the match would even be competitive if he played any of these guys.
ReplyDeleteIts interesting seeing how most of the 4.5 captains stacked their lineups in round 1 of the playoffs.
ReplyDeleteJCC stacked singles & doubles
Gypsies stacked doubles and gave up in singles
Westside stacked singles & doubles
Copperfield stacked doubles
Lakeside stacked doubles
D'bags stacked doubles
Sugar Creek stacked doubles
Can't tell what the Hurricanes did, they may have stacked doubles
this blog has jcc all over it. especially, rios praising himself. deep into sectionals? make it out of city playoffs first, you jerk offs
ReplyDeleteA team that stacks will only go so far. Sooner or later it will catch up with you. As for the Blast, they do deserve some praise because they have been dominant. As for Rios, his true colors showed last year when he self rated 4.0 when he should have really been a 5.0/5.5. F
ReplyDeleteFunniest thing I've seen is how Rios shaves games in his 4.0 matches this season.
Jcc can't beat lakeside. I guaranty it. Lakeside will win city. I guaranty that too.
ReplyDeleteSigned
Swami
Actually, JCC and Lakeside will wear each other out on Sunday morning and the Hurricanes will romp to Sectionals over the winner on Sunday afternoon.
ReplyDelete11:58 You gotta stack or you aint ever gonna win at this level. You obviously have never made it outside Houston.
ReplyDeleteRemember when dbags were talking smack, well they got smacked. The best jcc can do is split the singles, then they have a chance to beat lakeside. Jcc should try to target quack bui with taylor. That is their only chance. But Taylor over quack is not guaranteed.
ReplyDeleteGotta agree with 9:13. Only inexperienced captains set their lineups straight up, no matter how good their players are. Even if you have the vastly superior lineup, you should randomize it to prevent opponent from lining their strong guys up against your weaker guys.
ReplyDeleteI hear sandwich blaster is done for the season with Knee injuries, bummer, I wanted to see The Blaster Vs Babu Vs Rios Vs Chuck Norris Vs the Dos Equis guy vs Isaha Mustafa Vs Ghandi Vs Keith Stone in an anything goes cage match. :/
ReplyDeleteI doubt the Dbags will win against Blast. who do you think will be able to beat Blast on the Dbag team?
ReplyDeleteHey Swami, learn how to fuckin spell in american english
ReplyDeleteRios is my hero
ReplyDeletewhat was the score with rpm?
ReplyDeleteI really dont see Taylor getting challenged in singles, that locks up one line for the Blast, coin toss on the rest of the lines at best against their remaining opponents.
ReplyDeletedbags will win against blast. rios will get beat in singles and dbags doubles is better.
ReplyDeletedbags win 3-2
there is no way they will put rios in at either line in singles.
ReplyDeleteRios is much better than people think. He has been fixing scores all summer. He is a great number 2 singles.
ReplyDeleterios is not good enough to fix scores. he is not a ringer or sandbagger. just look at his record. he got smoked by hung, so that means he cant play long points.
ReplyDeleteI agree he is a great line 2 singles for 4.0's. He hasn't beaten anyone in 4.5 that would make him a great number # 2 in 4.5.
ReplyDeleteWe could find out if he plays. His only loss this summer was to Hung P. Nguyen who is a top notch player
ReplyDeleteHung went 1-3 last year in the playoffs. He's a good player, but NOT a top notch player.
ReplyDeleteI have no idea about Rios but for you to say Hung is not a top notch player is crazy. He went 1-3 losing to 3 players that got bumped up to 5.0 and lost all of them in a 3rd set and a win over Quack Bui who is definately a top notch player also. Definately one of the best 4.5's in the city
ReplyDeleteQuack Bui is definitely a top notch player.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely one of the best 4.5's in the city.
But you Definately don't know how to use spell check.
D E F I N I T E L Y !!!!
hung is a top notch player, but just happens to didnt make the playoffs. last year, most of his matches were won or lost in 3rd set tie-breakers, against top players. he's also went undefeated this year for the season.
ReplyDeleteas for quack, the only way to beat him is if you are skillfully better, or willing to play long points.
Taylor will beat Hess
ReplyDeleteRios will beat Quack
Enough Said.
Who is Enough?
ReplyDeleteWho's team does enough play for? Is Enough one of Rio's cheerleaders
ReplyDeleteJCC had better worry about D Bags first
ReplyDeleteHey, Enough is probably Rios and Babu's trainer. I also heard Enough is 6.0 player
ReplyDeleteJCC What? WTF, worry about dbags? bags down 5-0, bet bags will not win a set of jcc
ReplyDeleteNever count the deucebags out. There will be some competetive matches for sure.
ReplyDeleteeveryone in summer league knows that dbags are favorite of blast. everyone knows rios talk bigger then his game. bishop has already given rios two beating this year. who on dbags can rios beat? bishop? schmucker? nazario? that's a split singles. dbags will win at least two doubles line.
ReplyDeleteRios will beat any of those guys.
ReplyDeleteTaylor will crush any of those guys.
Deucebags will be lucky to win 1 doubles line if any.
Honest, JCC and Bags both suck. Lakeside will crush them both.
ReplyDeleteCorrection: Lakeside has already crushed the Bags
ReplyDeleteMan how many of the Dbags are posting on here? It's a fine effort by the Dbags for the season but I don't see your team advancing in the playoffs. Your best singles players are Bishop and Schmucker because Bishop can serve and volley and schmucker can stay on the court all day. Doubles your best players are Tran and the Dugas brothers. If one of your two singles players go down there is no one that can replace them which is a major liability. Goldberg would be the only sub for singles. Dbags you have a major mountain to climb this weekend. So let your racquets do the talking and stop posting on this blog.
ReplyDeletedbag singles cant beat taylor
ReplyDeleterios cant beat dbags singles
singles split
Lakeside did not "crush" the Deucebags. Looking at the scores from their match, 2 of the 4 lines Lakeside won were straight sets, but the other 2 lines they won could have easily gone the way of the Deucebags, and they would have won 3-2. I'd say that Lakeside "escaped" with a win in a close one.
ReplyDeleteDeucebags lost to Lakeside, end of story. To keep their hopes alive they need to win against Blast.
ReplyDeleteDuecebags played tough against Lakeside. They could have won it. Two TBs were the decider. Lakeside won but 4-1 doesn't tell the story.
ReplyDeletegood or bad lost, dbags still lost 4-1 in the books. dbags should not worry about lakeside. they will not have to play lakeside again. they need to focus on blast, which they should be able to split the singles and win two lines of doubles.
ReplyDeletei heard the bags and blast already scrimmaged and that the blast was much stronger.
ReplyDeleteBabu over Enough, 6-4, 6-0 at LLTC.
ReplyDeleteLakeside felt sorry for dbags, I heard they just kicked it in at the end like you would do playing against somebody weeker just to make it more competitive
ReplyDeletelakeside did not feel sorry for anyone. this is the playoffs. everyone from both teams played hard. lakeside vs dbags match is over. lakeside is only thinking about playing gypsies and dbags should be thinking about beating blast.
ReplyDeletedbags are going to get blasted
ReplyDeleteI heard Connell got bored in his match!
ReplyDeleteBlast from the past will have to whether the storm vs Dbags and Lakeside this weekend.
ReplyDeleteRios will be the deciding factor.
rios is the man
ReplyDeleteRios is the man who self rated illegally at 4.0 when he should have been a 5.5. What a TOOL !!
ReplyDeleteGet your facts straight at least. He was a 4.5 self-rate last year actually and was not competitive at all. It would be dumb for him to self-rate any higher if he could not even compete at that level. It was not long ago everyone on here talked about how horrible he was and now people are complaining about his self-rate from last year which does not matter anymore.
ReplyDeleteIf he was a 4.5 self rate then why is he 4.0 rated now? Let me guess, he sucked so bad that he had to appeal his rating. I don't care if he was not competitive at all. He should have still rated properly. Nonetheless he's just another guy showing us there is a flaw in the system. Rios should be punished for illegally self rating himself.
ReplyDeleteQuit whining about Rios. He is doing nothing at 4.0 and looks to be focused on 4.5. Babu is the sandbagger you should be talking about.
ReplyDeleteI can see the Dbags doing good in singles against the blast with bishops serve and volley game not many players today use this style so it can present match up problems and schmuckers style of counter punching especially in the heat I think will wear down whoever he plays. If the Dbags have anyone else playing singles then blast for sure sweeps singles.
ReplyDeleteAny predictions for tonights 4.5 Women's match between Betsie and Dena's team? Should be close from what I can tell. Winner likely will be the one to advance to Dallas.
ReplyDeleteI'm not too familiar with either team but I don't know how you can bet against Betsie's team, Ever. She's gone to Nationals like 4 times I think.
ReplyDeleteBetsie's team will win 4-1 or 5-0. Not much to it.
ReplyDeleteWith all of the talk about the Blast and DBags, no one has noticed that the BSheep/Hurricanes match on Saturday should also be interesting.
ReplyDeleteIf the Sheep get lucky and have Sanborn not hit Puma, they will probably split singles. Given that Lacy and Davidson are likely to win their doubles line, the Canes are facing a tight match. The Sheep's fate will probably rest on whether Wick Cannon can summon some of his old 5.0 magic.
Any news on how many teams will make it out of Houston for State?
ReplyDeleteNothing published yet.
ReplyDeleteI predict that the Blacksheep will win 3-2. There doubles lines are strong and they will be able to split the singles with ease. Sanborn can beat Pumma.
ReplyDeleteblacksheep singles should be sanborn and alzate. pumma's a wall and a pretty good one. dont think sanborn can take pumma down. blacksheep's only chance is to split the singles.
ReplyDeleteAlzate and Lacy were both out last week.
ReplyDeleteHale is better than Alzate.
Unless a cold front blows in and Pumma has to play with mittens because it's 95, the Hurricanes are going to win his line.
ReplyDeleteLooks like as they Highlander said in the movie - there can be only one!
ReplyDeleteSETX gets one spot at 4.5
WTF - SETX. That's crap
ReplyDeleteJCC will Blast the D Bags 5 0. No doubt.
ReplyDeleteno 4.5 wildcards issued. Three groups of 4 teams. Group 1 (Valley, SA, Dallas, SETX), Group 2 (Abilene, Ft.W, Lubbock, Austin), Group 3 (NOHO, Waco, Houston, Corpus)
ReplyDeleteThat's fucking bullshit. No WC for HOUSTON? Shit we have 5 divisions that 25 teams. WTF!!! I'm switching to golf!!!! Anybody want to buy some tennis racquets????
ReplyDeleteAre draws out for 4.0 as well? If so where can they be found.
ReplyDeleteI did a little research. Here are the sizes of the leagues (in terms of teams) that got berths to 4.5 Sectionals.
ReplyDeleteDallas - 28
Houston - 25
Fort Worth - 10
San Antonio - 8
Austin - 8
Velley - 5
SETX - 4
NOHO - 4
Waco - 3
Corpus - 2
Lubbock - 3
Abilene - 2
I guess Texas USTA learned their scheduling skills from HTA. How about taking wild cards from the four largest leagues to form 4 pools of four teams instead of 3 pools of four teams? As it is now, they are going to end up letting a wild card from one of the three pools in the semis.
Very shabby treatment for league players from Dallas and Houston who make more than half of all participants at 4.5.
LOL. Houston's pool has three other teams from leagues representing a grand total of 10 teams. I'm guessing that Sugarcreek, the crappiest team in the 4.5 city playoffs, could win that pool.
ReplyDeleteWhere do you find the info on Sectionals groups? Do you know the 5.0 group(s)?
ReplyDeleteHell, Chancellors could win that pool. And, yes, I'm not kidding.
ReplyDeleteThe 4.5 captains got an email with the pools. Ask a 4.0 and 5.0 captain.
ReplyDeleteNOHO gets a spot at Sectionals, who comes out of that league?
ReplyDeleteSince Hurricanes are in main City League and no link comes up on NOHO for 2011 league for Men 4.5, does that mean Houston will get two spots?
ReplyDeleteAccording to Tennis Link (use league drill down), Liberty High, captained by Vernon, won the league. Brian Goldberg is supposed to be on the team. Given the iffy nature of NOHO, who knows what is going on there. But Houston 4.5 is definitely not getting a second spot.
ReplyDeleteSunday, Ponies Vs Canes, buy your tickets now, gonna be a barn burner, Canes go down 3-2, Ponies win two lines of Doubles and one line of singles is my prediction.
ReplyDeleteAlright guys, my first thought is this is total BS. Im just hoping that it means either SETX or NOHO wont get to go but then again maybe they take the 2nd place team. Looks like both the NOHO and SETX 4.5 winning teams both are captained by Jacob Vernon and both teams share at least 8 players. WTF, why dont you losers come and play in Houston. You can't tell me driving is the issue since you obviously play 2 leagues that are over 100 miles apart. Way to play the system and avoid the competetion: Jacob Vernon, Brian Mills, Tony Buagas, Craig Fox, Lain Herr, Vahid Morris, Ben Mazzola, Chris Leach. These guys get to go play State while a more worthy WC H Town Team bust their asses all regular season and through playoffs in a league that has 25 plus teams. Total scam that must be corrected by USTA.
ReplyDeleteDon't hate the player hate the game.
ReplyDeleteThis is what always happens. The 4.5 NoHo team that went to Nationals was an all-star Houston team.
Folks do it as a hedge to get to sectionals.
If USTA-TX starts requiring minimum number of entries then they will lose support of smaller markets like Beaumont, Abilene, etc and will be told they are favoring the large market cities.
Agreed it is sub-optimal that Houston and Dallas don't get an automatic bid due to number of participants but that is the way it is.
One other thought is that in 2009 (I think) one of the Houston teams that got the wild-card entry unexpectedly did not go due to headcount issues...so maybe this is the state's way of saying "you had a WC and did not use it, so it looks like you don't want it moving forward..."
Just a thought. Good luck to all this weekend.
Towle has a good point. It does happen every year. Sounds like a good hedge to me. Why didn't anyone else think of it?
ReplyDeleteTowle, the problem is that Texas USTA could have easily taken 4 wild cards, one from each of the big cities and had four pools of four teams. Then both the big cities and the little cities are happy.
ReplyDeleteInstead, to save probably $500 in court fees, they decided on 3 pools of four and screwed the big cities. Hell, I'd personally pay the $500 just so Houston could have a wild card.
Any of the 25 teams in Houston 4.5 could have put their team in NOHO. This is nothing new but you dumb asses act like its new every year when you see the draws. Look at the Fort Worth 4.5 team and then look at the top 4.5 teams in Dallas - they are the same players. Look at what Waco does in their 4.5 league which is the biggest scam in ALL of league tennis.
ReplyDeleteThe men haven't been nearly as bad as the women. Just attempt to look across the Houston and NOHO leagues and see if you can make heads or tails of it.
If any city should be complaining it should be Dallas. They have the most teams every year and rarely ever get a wild card and they are the freaking host city.
I like the 12-team, 3-pool format because it makes matches more interesting with the top 2nd place team making the semis. At least a lot more interesting than allowing the 2nd place team in.
Let's see if they use games won percentage to decide the top second place 4.5 team at Sectionals for the wild card to the semis.
ReplyDeleteAs expected Betsie's team won last night. 3-2 may be a surprise however the way her 3 lines won was downright amazing (2 losses were 3-setters). Her best doubles line decimated the team of Kai Siewrattan and Terri Thyssen 1 1. How can a doubles team go to Nats 3 years in a row and still play 4.5. Anyways, may have been the 4-1 as some predicted but it looked like her 2 singles player was hurt. Congrats Betsie - seems like a nice group of players. Onto Dallas.
ReplyDelete@1135p - Folks do it every year. The NoHo league is actually fun and about 1/2 the teams are competitive at 4.0, I don't think there is enough depth to make 4.5 super competitive unless a large portion of the HTA players start playing in it.
ReplyDeleteThe issue is geography as I think 1960 is the southern border for home courts to play in this league and finding public courts out north is next to impossible. Most are neighborhood courts or private clubs.
The matches are played on Sat AM (like the rest of Texas) and it is full 3 sets of tennis. Why HTA does not adopt this format is beyond me. I think there is some paralysis built into the openness of change is why we stick with legacy no-ad on Thursday under crappy lights.
@1257a - You make a good point on taking the number of entries to sectional proportional to the number of league participants. That would take some negotiations between DTA, HTA and state section to agree that there would be some normalization and entries granted based on league participation.
Yes, there are pseudo-leagues made up in these small towns (Waco, San Angelo, Abilene) where there is one selected team to win and the other teams are populated out of below level players to get qualified for sectionals. Happens every year.
Still don't think it qualifies as a hedge as much as it is avoidance. A hedge would be playing Houston and a fringe league not avoiding Houston and playing 2 fringe leagues. Big question should be that Vernons teams can't represent both SETX and NOHO so does the 2nd place team from the league they don't choose to represent get to go or is that league then not represented and then a WC given to Dallas or Houston?
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Betsie's team to beating probably the toughest team she'll face here in the city. I guess the injuries balanced out as Dena's line 2 player was hurt as well. Not to take anything away from anyone's victory but if you walk onto the court already hurt and lose, the injury is not an excuse. It's not as if Betsie's team isn't deep enough to put anyone else out there. I highly doubt the injury had anything to do with the loss at line 2.
ReplyDeleteI am surprised though that Kai and Piasha were split up and the insertion of Anh Truong into the line-up. No offense against Anh, she's a solid player but someone who appears to be out of shape and coming off of pregnancy with no real matches under her belt since that time shouldn't really be out on the court in such a big match unless there was ABSOLUTELY NO ONE ELSE.
They were probably trying to balance out the teams by splitting up Kai and Piasha but against a juggernaut team like Betsie's you go for 3 strong lines you think you can win and sacrifice the other 2.
Dena's team got one of the two upsets they were hoping for with line 1 doubles taking out recent winners of the SA Major zone 4.5 doubles. Surprisingly Jamie Cohen wasn't in singles but perhaps the 1 day rest wasn't enough to be at full strength for singles. But with a watered down line 2 and line 3 doubles for Dena's team, it definitely spelled doom for any chance of an overall upset.
I agree that USTA has it wrong on number of teams allowed in 4.5 playoffs. Agree with earlier poster who said it should be 4 pools of 4 teams each so that big cities get WC's.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad and sad!!! Cry me a river Dena.
ReplyDeleteNot sure what you're talking about as far as a watered down Line 2 Doubs. Terri Thyssen strengthened that line, not hurt it. 1 1 is a beating and there's no combo on Dena's team that could hold a candle to either of Betsie's best 2 teams.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree. I watched that match and I don't even know that Terri was the weaker player on the court.
ReplyDeleteIt was watered down because 1) kai/terri haven't played together in any league matches. Practice doesn't count if that even happened at all. Kai/Piasha have played together and play well together.
ReplyDeleteNot saying Kai/Piasha would have won but it would have bettered their chances. Although putting them at 2 probably would have been a mistake in the 1st place. Nothing against Terri but choosing to mix up the line-ups to be unpredictable is sometimes more detrimental than going with the tried and true formula.
I still stand at Kai/piasha is better than Kai/terri. Then again I could be wrong.
Valid point... IMHO Terri is overall a better more consistent doubs player than Pia. She is so unassuming people don't realize how good she is.
ReplyDeleteThe difference is Pia stays back and Terri doesn't. That team would have punished Pia for staying back. Instead of 1 1 it would have been 0 0. While it is questionable to put out an untested team, Kai/Terri overall is a better team.
ReplyDeletei think it's time for a new blog.
ReplyDeleteI didn’t find out that Ivett was hurt until I got there last night. My players know that if they are unable to compete at a high level that they shouldn’t play because I do have other options. Ivett played her heart out and just came up short. Julie played a great match and was flawless in the 3rd set TB.
ReplyDeleteIt’s easy to sit back the next day and analyze, judge, and criticize. And no matter what the end result is if it’s not the result you’re hoping for you’ll always beat yourself up second guessing every decision that was made. It was a great match last night. High level of tennis and great sportsmanship on and off the court.
like i said... it's time for a new blog.
ReplyDeleteBrian Arellano is the best bonafide 4.0 in the city.
ReplyDeleteThe Unicorns are the best bonafide team in the 4.0 division...meaning whoever beats them aint a bonafide 4.0 team
ReplyDeleteG U I L L A !!!
ReplyDeleteWith Timothy Russell, Tyler Truong and, and Ninh Nguyen out for the season the Unicorns chances to win the division are slim.
ReplyDeleteYeah they lack meaningful depth to make playoffs but we should stil watch out for Daniel Young I hear he's been running 5 miles a day on the treadmill and doing INSANITY.
ReplyDeleteYoung isn't even good enough to make their playoff roster. Those other injured guys are all dead weight. Unicorns will still win city though.
ReplyDeleteYou are such a tool!!! GTAC rules the streets bitches.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of streets anyone try the street tacos @ TACO PACO's west of beechnut and s. gessner, their Barbocoa is the bomb.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of bombs we all need to watch out for Husain of the Unicorns.
ReplyDeleteYour momma is the bomb!!
ReplyDeleteI know, I pumped some TNT into her last night. I love MILF
ReplyDeleteEWWW!!! You and your mom. You Oedipus.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I'd rather hear about the Women's league and Mixed than the immature banter that usually goes on here.
ReplyDeleteHistorically those indoor teams have been known to melt once you get them out of the cush facilities with custom balls.
ReplyDeleteHopefully they have been stepping outside of the air conditioned box and practicing.
Anyone deconstructed the big two 4.0 playoff matches? I figure in both cases Chancellors/Lake, Corns/Canes a 3-2 score is likely and depending on lineups/rosters it could go either way.
ReplyDeleteHere's a starting list of power rankings, who should be moved up/down? Lots of doubles combinations, but I tried to capture the most powerful lines during the season and the playoff lineups:
Chancellors/Lakeside - With unique players at top singles/doubles based on my rankings I don't see how lakeside can do better than losing 2-3. Am I missing something? Are there players/teams that are over/underrated?
Singles:
1. Quang Hoang (C)
2. Cuong Truong (C)
3. Mark Etienne (L)
4. Musa Salihu (L)
5. Stevan Rutherford (L)
6. Rick Ngo (L)
Doubles:
1. Ross/Frederick (C)
2. Kerig/Marks (L)
3. Saliu/Rutherford (L)
4. Tran/Hangoc (C)
5. Kerig/Mitchner (L)

ReplyDeleteWTF, Texas USTA is having 4 wild cards at 4.0 (leading to five team pools and a bye in pool play) and no wild cards at 4.5??????
ReplyDeleteUtterly bizarre.
@347p - Most of the teams are Kingwood, Woodlands, Conroe and Cypresswood in past history.
ReplyDeleteJust look at the 4.0, 4.5 and Mixed leagues you can see where the teams are based out of.
Are rankings in the playoffs determined by WINS or by GAMES WON?
ReplyDeleteI dont think anyone wants to hear about WOMENS especially MIXED. All that factual information no spice...blah blah.
ReplyDeleteThe men are more childish then the ladies. At least the ladies have class.
ReplyDeleteYes the ladies are class act. Until you see chick fight!!!!! Then it get ugly!!!!!
ReplyDeleteBTW, time for a new post!!! this comment section is getting way to long.

ReplyDeletehouston 4.5 will have a wild card. some teams backed out
13. Dwyer/Iman (H)
ReplyDelete^^^ that is a strong team. i've had a chance to play them a year or so ago and got smoked.
Whomever thought the ladies have class is a lady, they are the most vindictive, bitchy, and evil players on the court, just ask my ex partner! It was a woman who wrote that..sorry you don't have more class, unless its off the tennis court!
ReplyDeleteany players from houston played in san antonio last week ?
ReplyDelete@2:33: "4) Tran/Hangoc??? They should be #12 out of 11, 'cuz they lost 1 and 0 against a weak doubles during the season. I watched them play that night. You cannot even tell if Hangoc was a right-handed or a left-handed guy. In fact, HE doesn't even seen to know. suckersss....
