Sorry for my recent Blog neglect.
Nothing earth shattering happened in last night's round of 4.0 playoffs. It will still, in all likelihood, come down to the Lakeside/Chancellor's and Hurricanes/Unicorns matchups on Sunday morning.
It's earlier, percentage-wise, in the 4.5 playoffs, so there is still a chance for a team who lost their first match to sneak into Dallas (at least in theory). However, it's probably a safe bet to say that the Blast/Lakeside and Hurricane/Black Sheep matches will both be for a trip to Sectionals. A close Hurricane win against the Black Sheep may still leave the door open for Copperfield on Sunday afternoon.
My picks: Lakeside and Hurricanes earn trips to Dallas.

what happened to mid-years?
ReplyDeleteGood question. They typically come out in mid-July (last year on July 14th). I haven't heard anything about them this year. If anyone else has any info, please chime in.
ReplyDeleteI hope the Black Sheep break through this year. They are always on the brink of going, but never seem to make it. Good luck Sheeps!
ReplyDeleteAny results from last night?
ReplyDeleteBabu and Rios beat Tran and hangoc
ReplyDeleteLast I heard midyears were supposed to come out today but nothing yet.
ReplyDeleteNG
What was Dena Day doing playing Ahn Troung? Didn't Ahn just have a baby last week? I guess we can say commitment to your friends. It looks like she sat out some of the better players like Basset,Diano and herself. Oh by the way Dena, Kai is not that good either. GOOD CAPTAINING,NOT REALLY
ReplyDeleteOne of the better players on that team I was surprised wasn't out there was Amanda Thompson. Yeah, definitely a questionable lineup. I heard Nancy, her 2 singles player, had a hurt ankle too - don't know that it would have made a difference. I'd be a little upset with putting Anh in given the players sitting on the bench. Perhaps Dena isn't the one calling the shots on that team. BUT at the end of the day (haha no pun intended) it probably wouldn't have mattered. I was out there, Dena really didn't have the roster to compete with Betsie's team.
ReplyDeleteOh and yeah, there's a reason Rios and Kai are friends. All flash no substance.
ReplyDeleteSo is there a wild card in women's 4.5?
ReplyDeleteMidyears just came out.

NG
And apparently both are cheaters too. Wasn't Kai protested a few years back. She was a tour player and played Fed Cup.
ReplyDeleteso what does that mean? mid-year? if you get bumped up are you not allowed to play in your previous rating during the playoffs?
ReplyDeleteI thought one of dena's players Vo was a very good singles player, why didn't she play?
ReplyDeleteQuestion comes up every year. Midyears basically mean nothing until Fall league. In Fall league you have to play under your midyear rating. For all other purposes (playoffs, Sectionals, tournaments) you continue playing at your pre-midyear rating.
ReplyDeleteNG
Yes but it is a leading indicator if your tanking is successful and you are starting to 'move the needle' towards EOY ratings.
ReplyDeleteEverybody is a bada$$ when they are not in the line up. Very easy to talk alot of noise while on the side lines. People who second guess the captains are nothing, but cancers. You know who you are. They love to take credit when things go right, when things are bad, it's the captains fault. Way to be team players.
ReplyDeleteCaptains Captain, Players play when called upon. That's the way it should be
ReplyDeleteOh hush Chris, nobody would do such a thing...
ReplyDeleteNG
Tawn Vo is a decent 4.5 singles player but she wouldn't have had a chance against Betsie's 1, 2 or 3. It was the right move putting Nancy in and like a previous poster said about Ivett playing hurt, if she wasn't up to it she shouldn't have been on the court.
ReplyDeleteHe's baaaacckkkk! Red back to 4.5.
ReplyDeleteSo greg what made you change your mind about picking unicorns 3-2
ReplyDeleteThose were my 4.5 picks. I should have been more specific. Sorry.
ReplyDeleteHow is Stevan Dealey Rutherford still playing in the NOHO league if he is playing in playoffs for Lakeside 4.0? Don't you have to declare? That doesn't seem right.
ReplyDeleteYou have to declare who you'll be going to postseason with. His NOHO matches are still regular-season, which is OK.
ReplyDeleteWhoever said Hangoc is obnoxious is correct. He and his partner are like night n day. One is loud and annoying. The other is calm n quiet. But both have weak serves! Lol
ReplyDeletedavila down to 4.5
ReplyDeletehess up to 5.0
guy down to 4.5
kudrick up to 5.0
medford up to 5.0
red down to 4.5
narajos up to 5.0
hung up to 5.0
patel up to 5.0
taylor up to 5.0
what happens if it rains saturday? seems like sunday might rain as well
ReplyDeletewe play as scheduled
ReplyDeleteNestor Sanabria Self rated 2.0 gets mid-year bump to 4.5? Yeah, these ratings mean absolutely nothing!
ReplyDeleteTran/Hagnock don't know how to play tennis... period. One has a broken wrist, and the other has a broken elbow. One curses in Hebrew, and the other curses in Chinese. Both can't serve, because their extremities are falling apart. I'm pretty sure they will be taken out of the line for the next games... that's what I've heard from the captain.
ReplyDeleteWTF is a 2.0? I thought that was a version of software not a USTA rating.
ReplyDeleteGotta wonder what the computer has been smoking, moving Medford to 5.0. The guy has lost 3 matches this summer and his two singles losses weren't even close.
ReplyDeleteCan we stop talking about Tran and Handjob? They aren't even the strongest doubles team on the team!!!
ReplyDeleteRios 4.5
ReplyDeleteJones 5.0
David Guy might not get bumped down since he is dominating the 5.0 tournaments. He has won 2 major zones.
ReplyDeletewhy didnt quack and sanborn get bumped? sanborn and davila combo will be the toughest next year.
ReplyDeleteI didnt have any good wins this season. All the players I beat handily were arguably 3.5 players. So why bump me up based on this record...
ReplyDeletePhil Kerig to 4.5. I love it !!!
ReplyDeleteLol @ 7:46! Mid year ratings are shit.
ReplyDeleteany link for Sat. playoff schedule?
ReplyDeleteYeah, don't be bad mouthing me!
ReplyDeleteGive me some of that good stuff that the computer is smoking...
ReplyDeleteSigned, Medford
love to hear all this face to face guys. we are gonna be at LLTC so everyone usually is packing some heat already.
ReplyDeleteRain out.
ReplyDeleteYeah fucking rainouts.
ReplyDeletenow what?
ReplyDeletePlay in the rain. Last person to the hospital is the winner.
ReplyDeleteactually everyone is playing at the colorado
ReplyDeleteWhy in colorado? Is it cooler than Houston at this time? Do people to ski and play tennis and the same time?
ReplyDeletetesting; 1, 2, 3
ReplyDeleteLooks like the ponies were all talk. What a waste! Bahahahaha
ReplyDeleteThey can still win their flight. They just need to win tomorrow and they will take the lead in tiebreakers. Makes you question the line up that the hurricanes put out in the 1st match. If they put out had put out 5 strong lines initially they would have had the flight wrapped up. Either way though it will be a good match tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteRegardless Houston 4.5 will NOT be contender again at Sectionals. All these bump-ups have taken its toll.
ReplyDeleteLooks like all the talkers got knocked the fuck out!!!
ReplyDeleteAgree with 12:10. But it's across the board for Houston. I don't think any Houston teams have a chance this year Men's and Women's side. Even Betsie's team has appeared very vulnerable this year.
ReplyDeleteChancellor won, Hurricane lose!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhere was Babu?
ReplyDeleteBabu won his match on Saturday 6 0 6 0. Babu for MVP
ReplyDeletehttp://tennislink.usta.com/LEAGUES/Reports/Championship/TennisLinkReports.aspx?Level=M&TeamMatchID=2340510&CYear=2011
Anyone can sandbag...lol whats the point. Prize money?
ReplyDeleteFools Hurricanes lost on purpose to get in the easier bracket at sectionals. It is all about tanking and making sure you get to stay in 4.0s.
ReplyDeleteLOL omg you are definitely not the mastermind behind the hurricanes...just make sure to dryclean your cheerleading outfit.
ReplyDeleteStory of the weekend. Babu and sandwich blaster didn't see the court and Rios sucks.
ReplyDeleteAs expected, Hurricanes and Lakeside to sectionals in 4.5 and Hurricanes and Chancellors in 4.0.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to those who advanced!
ReplyDelete@ 8:21... Was there ever any doubt?
ReplyDeleteGood game everyone. Seems like the REAL opponent was the sun today. Only the sun managed to wear all of us down, without even lifting a finger.
ReplyDeleteSunny Skies for MVP!!!
Ed Hess looked stellar today in match with Taylor, a slug fest with great points.
ReplyDeletei like turtles.
ReplyDeleteAs someone who was rooting hard for Taylor and the Blast to win, I gotta give Hess props for playing a great match. He was crushing the ball hard and flat a foot from the baseline consistently.
ReplyDeleteWell done by Lakeside 4.5 and good luck to all of the Houston teams at Sectionals.
Why would lakeside be going to sectionals? They lost to canes today. Go Canes!!!
ReplyDeleteBecause Houston has a wild card at 4.5, fool!
ReplyDeleteRios choked - no surprise there.
ReplyDeletehe didn't choke. he just plain sucks.
ReplyDeleteRios is a good 4.5. He was just outclassed in his match.
ReplyDeleteA wildcard at 4.5? USTA announced that there are no wildcards for 4.5. Looks like fakeside will be going to lil state.
ReplyDeleteall the captains got the email that a 4.5 team backed out, so houston got a wild card. hess/bui probably didnt play finals for that reason. congrats canes and lakeside for advancing
ReplyDeletelol... fakeside, someone is hating a lot. i guess they aren't that fake bc lakeside is going to dallas. i have a feeling the haters was in the bracket of lakeside... ducebags... tran is that you hating again.
ReplyDeleteTo all the Pete Rios hater,
ReplyDeleteDude you all are jealous. you guys don't belong in Rios's court. Pete is more of player than everyone out there, He plays the game, he wins, he looses and he doesn't cry like everyone else. So don't hate the guy, if anything admire him for enjoying such game and his attitude towards the game....Take lessons from him
What was up wit that Nigerian steroid monster Masu picking on that little Vietnamese boy Minh Hoang? All those roids and bullying and you still lost.
ReplyDeleteRonny is not a nga.
ReplyDeleteblast had a successful season. they went undefeated, with only one lost at the end to miss sectionals. this playoff format sucks, it should be round robin like last year. most memorial match is taylor's beating on james bui. chancellors who? rios maybe a trash talking fool all season, but at the end he still had a winning record. very ironic, that he played and lost his last match in front of everyone. we'll see what happens next year. as for the rest of the team, they were most impressive to pull off victories over other well know teams.
ReplyDeletewhat up with the lack of USTA officials? There were some horrible line calls today and noone to appeal to.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit most of the worst line calls I saw were on the women's side though.
I WAS WATCHING RIOS FROM THE STANDS AND HE TOO GOT CHEATED WITH LINE CALLS, BUT GUESS WHAT? PETE IS THE REAL MAN AND DID NOT SECOND GUESS HIS OPPONENTS CALL.
ReplyDeletePete over Babu and Sandwich Blaster for MVP. Pete is the only real tennis player.
ReplyDeleteSandwichblaster is Hurt, Babu was in North West Africa this weekend fighting against genocide committing armies, and Rios does not suck, he lost but played a hell of a match today.
ReplyDelete@ 8:46 Hurricanes 4.0 were fortunate to stack their singles lineup, otherwise they could have lost to the Unicorns. Line 2 singles: Carlos Quijano was a beast.
ReplyDeletei was also watching that match. pete came out blasting, but started to fizzle. pete hits the ball flat, so it flies out. there were a few close balls, but out is out. if he felt confident that the ball was in, then have some balls and stand up for yourself. but if he didnt, then he wasnt sure it was in or out. have some class, the better player beat pete. PETE THE SEASON IS OVER. YOU ARE A SELF PROMOTER AND GOT YOUR EGO GOT HURT. DONT BLAME YOUR LOST AND DRAG DOWN A CLASSY PLAYER.
ReplyDeleteunicorns? sound like a tiny tot soccer team, are they any good? Oh got it, they are 4.0 just learning how to play tennis. well good luck, I realize 4.0 is a level you really can't serve or keep a volley in the court
ReplyDeleteThe Bashing on this blog is getting old, and I bet its some mediocre 50+ year old not even has been trash talking and hating. get a life, this blog should focus on real things at hand in our tennis community instead of bashing players all the time behind an anonymous profile, hide like the scared little child you are. I'm not even going to give you the privilege of losing to me.
ReplyDeleteWhat happened to Vu?
ReplyDeleteLakeside 4.0. HA ha ha ha. Phil, you have a target on ur chest evry time you step on cort in 4.5.
ReplyDelete10:48, you must be his boyfriend?
ReplyDeleteVu who? last name?
ReplyDeleteRios and Babu over Tran and Handjob in beer pong at the Colorado.
ReplyDeleteDo it here in Houston, why go to colorado it's cold and high altitude not a good place for tennis
ReplyDeleteVu, got Crushed in singles by Kevin Lotz, he could not have gotten more than 2 games per set....I was watching from a distance but all I saw was winner after winner after winner. Lotz needs to play 3.5s next so he can show how good he is in an even worse league. Im pretty sure he is going to be a top rated 4.5 player if he dismantled Danny the way he did today on a consistent basis.
ReplyDeleteI saw Dikembe Mutombo play 4.0 tennis today and he lost to a midget
ReplyDeletePete can still go to Dallas and play for the Canes 4.0 team
ReplyDeleteAfter conquering an opponent twice my size today on the tennis court I'm retiring from tennis and declaring myself eligible for the NBA draft
ReplyDeleteLOL I can see Hurricanes grafitti this blog.
ReplyDelete
