It's not a do-or-die match for the Hurricanes, but the surprising emergence of the Good-er Guys gives this one some added importance, particularly if Mussenden is unable to pull out the third set in the resumption of the first Blast-Canes match.
People have written off the Hurricanes this year, and that's understandable given the large number of quality teams this year, but their top 8 can be formidable. Pise and Martinez are a great one-two punch in singles. They've got some proven quality 4.5 doubles players on that roster. For example, they could have the following six players in doubles: Tam, Plummer, Zachary, Mitchell, Mussenden, Morton. Mix and match them however you want, but the Canes can certainly be a tough out come playoff time. If they get there...
The Blast's roster has undergone some improvements since the first matchup as well, with the addition of Cy MacKinnon. Taylor appears to have taken a small step back from his 2011 form, but he's still formidable. Kiser and Richardson have been money. Add in Medford, Berry and Griffin and there's quality throughout.
Still, I think the urgency of the Canes' situation will have them coming out with guns-a-blazing and they will emerge with a hard-fought victory.
In 4.0, the noteworthy match is Lakeside versus the Westside Phoenix. Both teams look to be in good shape for a playoff berth, but at this point...who knows? HTA??? Mostly in 4.0 I will be looking at rosters this week: does anyone get added? Does anyone get DQ-ed?

Canes go down 4-1 this week. JCC should split the singles, will win Kiser's court and Cy's court. That leaves Medford or the Gabriel brothers on court 3, which is winnable for the JCC.
ReplyDeleteCanes 3-2.
ReplyDeletei favor blast because of home court advantage. blast 4-1. htown, can you give us status during the matches.
ReplyDeleteI'm not going to be present, though I'm guessing that perhaps Jason Freeman and/or Pete Rios may be there and might text me some news. If so, I will try to post it.
ReplyDeleteRios will be busy with 5.0 and Freeman with the 4.0 team. Red will be busy trying to salvage the Jam season. Looks like the Hurricanes are being split up.
ReplyDelete4.0 Hurricanes have a bye this week.
ReplyDeleteAnother league Thursday and still no news on the playoff situations.
ReplyDeleteBig match-ups this week between teams fighting for playoff spots.
ReplyDelete4.0
Copperfield (3-1) @ Lost Forest (3-2)
Unicorns (4-1) @ Sienna Plantation (5-1)
Westside Phoenix (5-1) @ Lakeside (5-0)
4.5
Deucebags (4-2) @ Ssshhhwings (1-3)
Hurricanes (4-1) @ JCC (6-0)
Do we really know who is fighting for playoff spots? Allison is incompetent. Fire her ass.
DeleteMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSE
DeleteAs has been said before, Allison doesn't get to make the decisions on what the format will be or when to reveal it. Look higher up the food chain.
DeleteEven without Kallus, Copperfield will have no problem with Lost Forest. Probably glad to get him out of the way after adding high school super-champ talent.
ReplyDeletethe hta website is a mess. cant navigate to get anywhere you need. stupid facebook links that is blocked at work. nothing on playoff format. and why are we having to pay hta fees for usta league?
ReplyDeleteLet's follow Greece's lead and prepare to leave HTA, but only after getting the bailout money. What, no bailout? Then, why am I paying HTA dues to get pounded by super champs and ex-Div 1 college players?
ReplyDeleteWe could start our own CTA but all the city employees and the HTA are in cahoots with each other.
ReplyDeleteInteresting DQ yesterday in 5.0, Alim Mambetov moved up to 5.5. Looks to me like what happened must have been this. He was a 5.0 B at YE08. His rating expired so he had to self-rate, and did so as 5.0, understandably. But, every time you self-rate you have to follow the General and Experianced Player Guidelines. Since he played NAIA in 2005, he's presumably under 30 and according to the Guidelines had to self-rate 5.5, even though his last published rating was 5.0. Tough rule. I only presume this is what happened since it's the only explanation I can come up with.
ReplyDeleteI seriously think we should all boycott HTA fall leagues until they get their shit in gear. Htown, it's time for you to organize this and get people behind it.
ReplyDeleteHere is how playoffs should be in my world... it took about 15min on tennis link:
ReplyDeleteM3.5
15 Teams, 3 flights
3 flight winners, 1 wild card
3 match round robin
26% of teams to playoffs
M4.0
35 teams, 7 flights
7 Flight winners, 3 wild cards
Two flight - 5 team Round Robin, winners advance to final
29% of teams to playoffs
M4.5
23 teams, 4 flights
4 Flight winners, 2 wild cards
One flight - five round robin matches
26% of teams to playoffs
I suppose on 4.5 you could expand to a 4+4 format with two round robins and a final.
Several ways to calculate wild card consistent with the past - % of games won or other.
Is it going to rain or what?
any updates on the blast vs canes?
ReplyDeleteCanes won 3-2.
ReplyDeletehow about some details?
ReplyDeleteI don't know many. I was excited about watching the Celts-Heat game last night so I avoided tennis. Oops. I believe Raymond Martinez again beat Pete Taylor in three. Hersch Pise was rolling in singles (against MacKinnon, I believe), so I assume he won. Kiser and Richardson were also comfortably ahead. I'm sure someone else can fill in the gaps.
ReplyDeleteCanes won both singles.
ReplyDeletediv2 is very interesting. with the canes victory last night.
ReplyDeletecanes vs gooder guys next week will be do or die for gooder guys. a lost and they will be out of playoffs. a win will not put them in playoffs yet. they should be 8-2 if they win. if cane loses and beat blast the last week, then all 3 teams will end up 8-2, then it will come down to individual wins, etc...
div3
mob squad widens their individual wins last night and hoping lakeside would beat sugar creek, which put them on top of sugar creek for second place. no results posted for sugar creek and lakeside.
Lakeside wasn't playing Sugar Creek, rumor is they were rained out.
ReplyDeletelakeside and sugar creek to play last week of season
ReplyDeleteSugar Creek beat Clambakes 5-0 last night.
ReplyDeleteAnyone know what is going on with No Way Out and Lakeside Estates. It looks like their 1st match was changed from a No Way Out win to a loss and the re-match on 5/24 is being disputed. What is happening there?
ReplyDeleteHMMMM, Canes always come through.
ReplyDeletewhat does it mean to be disputed?
ReplyDeleteAnybody know how the Sectionals bound Deucebags did last Thursday vs Schwings?
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know who the asshole with the squeaky voice that made a complete fool of himself yesterday at LLTC is? I think I would have preferred to hear the normal LLTC gunshots than hearing that kids voice crack. BTW you never cross the net. That's an automatic default stupid...
ReplyDeleteLittle man Alain again wanted to fight..can somebody clock him one time and then tell him he is not good enough at his level and lucky enough to have a hot wife
DeleteAlain Tran
ReplyDeleteI saw in the system that Alain "retired" in while being down 6-5 in the 1st set in what was the deciding match. What happened?
ReplyDelete@ 7:56.. that was Margarito Arias ... he always squeaks like Sharapova.. every damn point and sometimes even during the points.... should be grounds for interference. so annoying to play against him or next to him
ReplyDeleteburrman and day was in a close match with towle and shane!!! what is going on?!?!
ReplyDeleteI think them 2 are getting old and slow
DeleteLet it go Harold.
ReplyDeleteIf Arias looked like Sharapova, it would be OK.
this week.
ReplyDeletediv1- none
div2- gooder guys vs canes. canes 3-2
div3- mob squad, lakeside, jam, all will try to run up the scores
div4- gypsies vs hrc, winner will make playoffs. gypsies 3-2
Canes over Gooder guys 4-1.
ReplyDeleteThere does not seem to be enough time to have a large playoff structure this year. There are not enough weeks to play all the matches. My guess is the playoffs will be much smaller than everyone excpects.
ReplyDeleteIt is June 11th and we still don't know what the playoffs will look like. Unbelievable, not even an email to the captains saying they are working on it or that they even understand people are frustrated.
ReplyDeleteI think most captains would be happy if they just knew how many teams were going to make the playoffs.
Boycott until they start acting like a CTA of the Year.
ReplyDeleteHurricanes vs Gooder Guys should Headline this week. Gonna be a lot of big servers out from both sides. Singles will be different for the Canes this time around.
ReplyDeleteCanes win 4-1
ReplyDeleteCanes can't win, they don't have team shirts. GG wins another close one 3-2
ReplyDelete
