Week Five

The schedule, like the weather, is starting to heat up.  We've been lucky this year with no rain on Thursday nights...let's hope that continues.

There are a few good matchups in 4.5 this week.  There has already been a lot of discussion about the Kingwood Crush matchup with Westside's No Way Out.  Maybe I'm biased, as there are six former teammates/friends on the Kingwood team, but I'd be shocked if No Way Out pulled off the upset here.

Every week brings an intriguing matchup in 4.5 Division III.  The Deucebags will be taking on a much stronger Sugar Creek team that has its back to the wall.   Sugar Creek will be at home and should be able to get Straley, Jim and Herr in the lineup.  Look for this one to come down to the wire.  We'll see if Alain Tran stands pat or adds some talent to contend with the very tough division competition.

The top two teams in Division I also face off as Ssshhhwings take on Copperfield.  The Shwings haven't been tested yet, and quite frankly won't get the kind of battles in Division I that some of the other teams will see during the regular season.

In 4.0, division leader SAP will be taking on a 2-2 (I believe they lost last week) Rolido Boys team whose season is in jeopardy.  An SAP win all but assures SAP and Lost Forest trips to Citywides.

Two of the five quality teams in Division II square off as the Smokers take on a Phoenix team that experienced their first loss last week.   The Phoenix can make things interesting with an upset here.

Finally, the Hurricanes 4.0 team has been somewhat of a disappointment thus far, and has a tough matchup with a veteran JCC squad.   Is it possible that Freeman's bunch will be on the outside looking in come playoff time?

  1. "outside looking in" LOL - Htown, you are worse than OldSchool over on the Austin blog.

  2. If that is your way of calling us the best,we agree.

  3. It sounds like the outside fears a Hurricane!

  4. hurricanes will be a force to deal with, but anything could happen in doubles.

  5. Nice attempt at trying to downplay the hurricanes - everyone knows not to underestimate them. They are definitely the team to beat in 4.0.

  6. Sienna took them out. They are not that good.

  7. sienna v hurricanes match was very close - could have gone either way. Hurricanes other matches were very convincing, not so for sienna

  8. We beat them once, we'll beat them again. It doesn't matter how close the matches are. That's the difference between winners and lossers. We didn't even have our best lines on the court. Just face it Houston 4.0 world, the road to sectionals goes through Sienna.

  9. Does the 4.5 go through Sienna as well?

  10. Sienna 4.0 is deep, kind of scary... Some of their 4.0's are also on their 4.5 team and winning and/or almost winning.

  11. Not a chance. They have their lineups all wrong. Hurricaine 4.5 will beat Sienna 4.5 on 4 of 5 lines this Thursday.

  12. I'd say we drop at least 4/5, I can't figure out which match the previous comment was planning on us winning. (Can you go 0-6 in a 5 match lineup? I have some friends in DC, maybe Freeman and one of them can play singles tomorrow night.)

Whoever posted "Does 4.5 tennis run through Sienna as well" is clearly not from Sienna. We love to play tennis in Sienna but being out in the sun all day hasn't made us that delusional.

But I think we'll end up having a respectable year for our first year in 4.5, even if we go 0-9, we've already played some good teams to some very close matches.

  13. Hurricanes 4.0 has snuck in a few more players... What's the scoop on them?

  14. Sienna just added one also.

  15. Sienna didn't add anyone.

  16. BOOOOOM!!!!!!!!

Take that 4.5 league - the season is over, the Deucebags have added THE WARD JANNUZZI!!!!!!!

  17. Game on, that old man has some serious game.

  18. Slicer/dicer with no strokes.

  19. JANNUZZI won't win against the Hurricane.

  20. Ward finally realize he cannot play in 5.0 that is why he joined a 4.5 team.

  21. Ward is a crafty doubles player. Not sure how he'd handle the power of someone like the Dibuas, but we may find out.

  22. Crafty when making line calls.

  23. Ward is definetly someone with line-calling issues. I feel for his doubles partner.

  24. The top teams add to the top of the line up.

  25. I'm tired of hearing about Sienna & the Hurricane's. There's a few other teams as good or better so enough already!!!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I feel sorry for any girl that goes out with Ward.

  27. who would u rate the best and worst line callers in 4.0 and 4.5?

    ReplyDelete
  28. 4.0 - Jonathan Hoa or something like that.

    4.5 - Kyu Kim

  29. Sienna and Hurricanes 4.0 are head and shoulders above the rest. Until someone else proves there worthy they don't desreve to be talked about.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I'll agree that the Hurricanes are head and shoulders above all other Houston 4.0 teams (and probably Texas 4.0 teams) but Sienna is no better than Bear Creek, Copperfield, Chancellors, Lakeside, Smokers, Westside or SAP.

All those teams can beat each other.

Who has the best doubles (outside of Hurricanes)?

Who has the best singles (outside of Hurricanes)?

Sorry Hurricanians, but we've heard enough about how great you are, we accept that we are all fighting for second - so lets talk about second.

  31. Rumor has it that the Hurricanes already lost a match. Is that True?

Truth is that at 4.0 anybody can beat anybody. very little difference.
That is why it is called 4.0 tennis
