Any early results from tonight?
I hope the Kingwood v. Westside (what was their name again?) smack talking was settled on the court.
I saw the that 4.5 Hurricane team was done quickly tonight and shared some remarks about having to play the weakest team in their division.
What else happened?

4.5 Hurricanes sweep Sienna.
ReplyDeleteSarosh beat Costilla. Guess he belongs on the upper team.
ReplyDeleteFeedback in 4.0 is that Hurricane beat JCC 3-2 and SAP edged out Rolido Boys 3-2.
ReplyDeleteOne has to question the depth of the 4.0 Sienna army as they played their "B" team tonight and only took 3 lines against Freddy's squad.
ReplyDeleteDoes not bode well for their future unless they play their top 8 and then the other 18 don't play. Next week they get to play Freeman's team again, so you know they will bring the 'A' squad.
Westside BS won 5-0
ReplyDeleteSugar Creek beat the Deucebags 4-1, bringing their "A" squad, including Straley, Herr and new add Antoine Ford. Craig Bobo has helped out Ken Douds with some talent acquisition, just as Red Benzon has been behind much of the Hurricane 4.5 roster. Aadrian Hasker took the only line for the Deucebags. The teams will meet one more time...it's looking likely that a playoff berth may be at stake. At this point the Sugar Creek roster looks stronger.
ReplyDeleteFour third set breakers in the SAP win. A little controversy in 5.0, where captains have historically played very loose with the rules.
No word yet on the Kingwood-NWO match.
Yes, the SAP win could have been a SAP loss easily. Very close match.
ReplyDeleteWhat was the controversy in 5.0?
Antoine, call me, we need to settle up on those racquets sometime!
Oh, I forgot to mention that the Copperheads upset Ssshhhwing tonight. Brian Robins and Michael Letan against Peter Rothe and Mark Judson was the deciding match. I heard that Robins/Letan were down 6-2 in the breaker and stormed back to take it 10-6.
ReplyDeleteShwing lost all 3 doubles lines, I believe, usually a strength of the team. Alex Bergmann was upset in singles by Monty Lindloff and Flad Patterson also had a singles win for Copperfield. No Neil Carpenter for Shwing, who might have been able to strengthen its doubles if he had played singles in place of Lindloff or Patterson.
ReplyDeleteWestside NWO won 3-2
ReplyDeleteWow. If that's true then I apologize for underestimating NWO. Any word on the individual results? I know Don Rios was outta' town but I still woulda' thought Kingwood had enough left to get the job done.
ReplyDeleteThe Black Sheep may be on the outside looking in come playoff time. Wow.
Correction: It was the Lobsters who beat Ssshhhwing. Too many Copperfield teams.
ReplyDeleteThe 5.0 Copperfield team looks like it might not surrender a single line all season, by the way.
It is offical... Westside NWO beat Kingwood 3-2. However, niether team had their best team on the court tonight. No Way Out...
ReplyDeleteWho is Red Benzon?
ReplyDeleteThe Kingwood team has gone to shit already and Jimmy just stepped down a few months ago. Look at the pathetic lineup they put out there.
ReplyDeleteChance playing singles? Vodinh and Fortenberry should be on the Super Senior tour. Daniel Hanley in a big match?
Bruce Richards was the smarter captain with his lineup by sac-ing line one singles.
In a long season I feel that it is necessary to make sure you have your best players consolidate in early matches. Many of the Top Teams may lose a match here and there but rarely will lose a "Team" match. Kingwood Crush will still make the playoffs but definitely aren't the force they have been in years passed.
ReplyDeleteSugar Creek has beefed up their roster but Hurricanes could still spoil their playoff hopes.
WOW!! Crush get beat by Westside No Way Out. What's up with Chantz? Too much beer and not enough focus. Maybe Hal Hale fooled him with switch hitter playing style. Good Job Westside No Way Out!!
ReplyDeletediv I:
ReplyDeleteSchwing and Copperfield sealed their spots
div II:
not a done deal yet...
second half of the season is coming. BS, NWO, Crush all need to have their strong players in the line up to take it.
div III.
hurricanes reign.
battle for second place duecebags and sugar creek.
just looked at 4.5 div II
ReplyDeleteit's like the nba western conference. one or two matches separate between 1st and 3rd place.
Alan Tran flipped his singles and it backfired. Where was Ward and why did Khang play.
ReplyDeleteWard didn't want to loose so he sat out.
ReplyDeleteActually Ward is playing Westwood, the big Senior tournament in Austin.
ReplyDeleteGB still has priapism...
ReplyDeleteIt looks like the Black Sheep and Deucebags will be out of the playoffs. They both are fighting an uphill battles and I imagine NWO and Sugar Creek will only put their foot on the gas.
ReplyDeleteThis just means the poor Sienna Plantation, Hurricanes B, Lakeside Estates most likely won't even sniff another victory (not that they were going to anyway).
Sienna 4.5 sucks
ReplyDeleteGive them a break, they are getting started as a team. It's not easy breaking into the 4.5 league world in Houston.
ReplyDeleteI think that Sienna 4.5 is just doing what their supposed to. They had some players get bumped up and they formed a team. I think Captain Smitty has done a pretty good job. Keep Competing.
ReplyDeleteleague matches are different from regular matches. i think trevino and costilla from sienna are new to the league scene and will adjust in the future.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the support guys...Relative to the Hurricanes, we do pretty much suck so I'm going to assume that's what the previous poster was referring to but I'm pretty sure that most teams in the city could say the same thing.
ReplyDeleteSienna is doing fine. They are not 4.5 power nor should they be.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I got to hand it to them. Individually they are being competitive, which still makes it fun for the team despite the team losses.
Keep it up guys. When I grow up to a 4.5, I hope to be at least competitive like them.
PS
ReplyDeleteIf anyone wants to move out to a great community with a growing tennis community, my house is for sale...ha ha.
Not sure if the captaining duties are included with the house or not.
ReplyDeleteWhere was the Kwan Man last night? Hear he's upped his doubles skills. Maybe we will see his skills in next weeks big match up Hurricane vs Sienna Part 2.
ReplyDeleteHeard he has had issues and will be out for awhile.
ReplyDeleteNot sure you can say the black sheep and duecebags are out of the playoffs considering we are half way and they are both right there in their divisions. Black sheep beat NWO the first time they played- no reason to believe they can't do it again. Duecebags and black sheep need to get their best players out there for th rest of the matches though.
ReplyDeleteBlack Sheep still have more talent than NWO, but Deucebags are now inferior to Sugar Creek in talent.
ReplyDeleteSienna 4.0 did play the B squad last night and managed to get 3 wins for a victory. But that just means that the A squad is rested and waiting for the cains next week.
ReplyDeleteOh and by the way. GOOD JOB B SQUAD FOR THE WIN!!! Almost everyone will get 2 matches in so the entire roster is available for the city. OOPS. Is it to early for city talk in this division or does everyone agree Sienna 4.0 will be in the playoffs. With an A, B, C and half D squad.
Is it depth or just a bunch of players that cheer for each other?
Bring Your Cheering to Sienna Next Week. Hurricanes will be rolling through. Or should I say SWEEPING through!! You are in for a TREAT..
ReplyDeleteIt's surprising no one is protesting Jason Pieters in 5.0. he played in the lineup at Georgia Tech a few years ago, should be 5.5 minimum.
ReplyDeleteTo the last poster pls go to Tennis Link. Jason Pieters has a Benchmark 5.0 Rating. Which means he cannot be protested.
ReplyDeletePieters played 5.5 last year and went 1-1. He generated a 5.0 Rating. He should dominate in 5.0 league.
ReplyDeleteThe better captains won't ever have a DQ'able person on their roster but they will have plenty of players out of level.
ReplyDeleteyes, Kwan man has issues alright ... lots of issues ... to embarrasing for this blog !
ReplyDeleteSienna will beat the Hurricanes again ... predict 3-2 same as last time.
ReplyDeleteWhich Lines will Sienna 4.0 Team Win? Any key match ups? I'd like to see both teams bring their best out.
ReplyDeletewith hurricanes and sienna virtually guaranteed a playoff spot, they may not necessarily bring out their best
ReplyDeleteSienna 4.0 WILL LOSE to Hurricane because their captain(s) will chose the wrong guys to play this time. Too many people on the team and they are confused on who to use !!
ReplyDeleteI doubt Freeman brings out his "A" lineup. He didn't do it the 1st match, hasn't done it yet and has no incentive to do so this week. Even if Sienna wins, they still aren't a threat to the Hurricanes. Plus, they'll both be in the playoffs anyway and no reason to give anything away in May.
ReplyDeleteWhat is Freeman's A lineup?
ReplyDeleteSienna-Hurricanes is not the match of the week in 4.0. In division I Copperheads-Bear Creek sounds like a play-off warm up. Also, the winner of this match will more than likely win their division.
ReplyDeleteAny predictions?
If Sienna beats the Hurricanes, they could always throw a match to JCC, and possibly eliminate the Hurricanes from the playoffs.
ReplyDeleteThe 4.0 match of the week is Lakeside v. Smokers. If Lakeside losses they are most likely out of the playoffs.
ReplyDeleteCopperfield v. Bear will be a good match but either way, both teams will be in the playoffs. Same goes for Hurricanes and Sienna.
Sienna can't keep the Hurricanes out of the playoffs by throwing a match to JCC. JCC already has two losses and they'll pick up their 3rd against the Hurricanes next time. By-the-way, Sienna will lose to JCC next time anyway, they won't have to throw anything. If any team in division 3 will have the ability to keep another team out it will be the Hurricanes (Sienna better pick up some lines on Thursday).
