I have to admit it: When I received a call with the matchups last night, I thought "Jimmy may be reading too much into that one match." Yeah, I've looked at Hai Vu's singles record from 2005 and it's better than some people might guess. But still, he's never been thought of as a singles powerhouse, and the match with Ted was a very emotional one which may have played a part in the outcome. Or so I thought...
I figured he'd have a chance against Sarosh if he made Sarosh come up with passing shots with that backhand that he slices so well. Yeah, Sarosh is rusty, but that match last night was a total blowout and I think we need to give Hai some credit. He doesn't hit hard, he serves a slow serve to the forehand 80 percent of the time. But that slow serve DOES stay low and he IS an excellent volleyer and plays intellegently.
Still, I can't see Kingwood getting to Nationals, or even getting out of their pool at Sectionals, if they have to use Hai Vu and Phi Huynh in singles. If Lopez and Omon are unable to play singles up there, the team will have to hope Gary Armstrong can really come through for them up there in the heat.
Congrats to Kingwood. It looks as though they'll be in the pool with Copperfield, who will be tough, and the Yutts or Ssshhhwing. The Met, Westside and the Mob Squad will probably make up the other pool.

ReplyDeleteI just heard that Ssshhhwing beat the Yutts last night, though I haven't heard the score. The Yutts match with the Mob Squad next week may be meaningful...
ReplyDeleteDid many of the matches get cancelled last night?
ReplyDeleteWhat happened in divisions 2 and 3 in 4.5?
Ssshhhwing beat the Yutts last night 3-2, sweeping all three doubles. They actually split sets in both singles lines. Could have been 5-0 if the singles came through.
ReplyDeleteCopperfield 4.5 match was postponed vs. Rice
ReplyDeleteThe yutts are officially out now I presume. Don't think that the Mob could lose to the Yutts.
ReplyDeleteMan Sarosh got Beat like a Drum by Hai.
ReplyDeleteHai absolutely deserves all the credit. He played great last night, as did the rest of Kingwood's team (damn it!!!). They are simply better than we are. They will be hard to beat, even without Dibua and Lopez in singles.
ReplyDeleteGood luck to everyone going to Tyler.
welcome to the 4.5 league, sarosh. all that arrogance and trash talking saying that you will dominate 4.5 and 5.0 players, has come back and bite you.
ReplyDeleteYou Got Served....
ReplyDeletethis is the real sarosh. man was he self-hyped way too much.
ReplyDeleteWhen are playoffs for 4.0?
ReplyDeleteWhy bother with 4.0 playoffs? It will be MET and SAP going to sectionals
ReplyDeleteif it is met and sap that is sad for houston tennis as sap went 0-2 (2-8 in matches) against sienna topspinners this year and speaks towards needing a rearrangement of the playoff system
ReplyDeletesorry 3-7 in matches
ReplyDeleteSAP will be the worst 4.0 team in the playoffs. They will go 0-3. It will be Chancellors and Met in the final, with slight edge to Chancellors.
ReplyDeleteChancellors is looking good right now with Le/Le taking out previously unbeaten Brouer/Robinson from Dallas and Dutchover now favored to win his 2nd 4.0 major zone today. Not to mention they have undefeated singles player in Jonathan Hau Nguyen and a stable full of nice doubles players. They have to be the team to beat.Who the hell is SAP?
ReplyDeleteDid anyone notice how JCC played themselves out of the 4.0 playoffs? It looks like 7 spots are finalized with only 1 spot remaining for the 4.0 city playoffs.
ReplyDeleteRolido Boys or SAP???? SAP won first match-up 4-1.
Did Rice ever play Copperfield?
ReplyDeleteNo, the rice/copperfield match was postponed (even though it was dry). Not sure when the make up is.
ReplyDeleteItz gon Rain!

A lot of the posters here could use a pair of inflatable balls.
ReplyDeletesorry, don't need your service. my balls are always hard
ReplyDelete"I got big balls and I can not lie"
ReplyDeleteI've got big balls, I've got big balls. They're such big balls
ReplyDeleteWhat are the important matches this week in 4.5? If there is no rain, will this week complete the make up matches?
ReplyDelete2nd place in Div III 4.5 is not solidified as of yet. Its between the YUTTS and Schwings at this point.
ReplyDeleteDiv. III is over. Check the math. Ssswwwings have already sewn up 2nd place. Look at sets lost and games lost. Even if Yuttes beat Mob Squad 5-0, it doesn't matter because Ssswwwing already have fewer sets and games lost and they don't have any matches left to play. It's over.
ReplyDeletethat's correct. the shwing pulled it off.
ReplyDeleteBesides, Alain Tran, captain of the Yuttes, has an upcoming event that is more important anyway. Good luck and congratulations Alain!
ReplyDeletedon't do it... getting married is not all that. way over-rated.
ReplyDeleteIsn't summer league more important?
ReplyDeleteIt doesnt matter if it was the Yutts or the Schwings, they do not have the singles firepower to compete with Kingwood or Copperfield. And the depth of doubles in Kingwood will wipe both teams out. I do not foresee Schwings getting more than one win from either team.
ReplyDeleteIt will be fun trying. You never know.
ReplyDeleteWho said anything about marriage!??!!?? its all about the BACHELOR PARTY!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhere and when is Alain's bachelor party?
ReplyDeleteL'Bare
ReplyDeleteyuck
ReplyDeletewhen's the city playoffs?
ReplyDeleteJuly 10th-13th
ReplyDeleteAny matches cancelled already??
ReplyDeleteLooks like the weather is starting to clear up around 4:30. Are the Yutts/Mob Squad and Rice/Copperfield matches still on for tonight??
ReplyDeletejust looked at doppler. Rice should be dry soon and have no more real rain. Memorial should be ok but is closer to the stuff north of I-10. should be able to get both done tonight- wouldn't have thought so earlier though
ReplyDeleteResults from 4.5 last night? Did Mob beat Yutts? Did Copperfield beat Rice?
ReplyDeleterice and copperfield did not play
ReplyDeleteRice courts were very puddled at 6pm.
ReplyDeletemakeup next thursday or are there other plans? are there any other 4.5 matches that still haven't been played or is rice/copper the last one?
ReplyDeleteThe ones that have not been played will not make a difference in the playoffs.
ReplyDelete4.0 Playoffs are set:
ReplyDeletePOOL 1:
Chancellors (9-0, 41-4)
Copperfield (9-1, 42-8)
Smokers (8-2, 31-9)
SAP (7-2, 33-12)
POOL 2:
MET (10-0, 44-6)
Sienna (10-0, 43-7)
Lost Forest (7-3, 35-15)
WIllowfork (7-2, 26-19)
There should be some nice Sunday match-ups with Chancellors/Copperfield and MET/Sienna.
pool 1 looks to have some good matches, but pool 2 seems to be no contest - MET looks like it will dominate
ReplyDeleteSienna will give the Met a run for their money
ReplyDeleteSienna vs Chancellors in the finals with Sienna winning 3-2.
ReplyDeleteahahah what you smoking??? MET will dominate 5-0 in every match!!! City is just a small hurdle for MET. Its Nationals easily. everything else is just a formality.
ReplyDeleteChancellors will NOT make it to the final of 4.0.
