There's a huge match in 4.5 this week: Kingwood - Hurricanes Part II. The first match was rained out very early on, so this will be our first chance to see if anyone can take down Kingwood this year. Will Hurlbert, Armstrong and Valentine make the trek down from Kingwood for this one? I'm sure the Hurricanes Beaumont contingent will be making the trip. On paper, it appears that the winner of this division will end up with a better draw in the playoffs, though the emergence of Copperfield has made the playoff brackets more balanced and still somewhat in question.
Omon Dibua is noticably hobbled and wearing a knee brace right now, but can still be a very effective doubles player. I haven't heard any updates on Juan Lopez's health. So who will Jimmy use in singles? Phi Huynh got completely destroyed in his singles match last week. Hai Vu is coming off a big win in the Noho league, but I don't think anyone would view him as a singles option. Luckily, Kilshaw has lots of options: Gary Armstrong is still a viable choice, and both of the Burrises can play some singles. Freeman also has a bunch of choices for his singles slots. Brian Mills was impressive in the first Kingwood matchup. Sarosh Ahmed is back playing, but is he ready for a big singles matchup? Don Rios or even David Yang would seem more likely. Craig Bobo and Ben Whitsett are presumably pledged to their Noho team, but can play a key role in the Houston playoff alignment by playing in this one. A Bobo/Whitsett versus Armstrong/Hurlbert matchup would be worth the price of admission.

Kingwood wins 4-1!
ReplyDeletei would definitely like to see sarosh play singles, since he hyped himself up so much before his injured ankle.
ReplyDeleteSarosh will be playing singles on Thursday.
ReplyDelete.
ReplyDeletemy guess is sarosh will definitely not play because he would lose for sure.
ReplyDeletemy guess is sarosh will definitely not play because he would lose for sure.
ReplyDeleteThe Jedi Knights and Westside will be a nice match. I like Jedi Knights in that one 3-2.
ReplyDeleteSarosh won't be able to compete at this level.
ReplyDeletedon't know why Sarosh is even on the team... he won't be able to hang in singles and sucks at doubles.... he has nothing ot contribute besides his reputation as a _______. (whatever you like to fill in)
ReplyDeleteYeah, yeah, Sarosh sucks, blah blah blah
ReplyDeleteI hope he plays and does well.
ReplyDeleteEither this blog is just full of haters or it is the "Freeman disinformation machine" at work playing down his capability.
I think most that have seen him play (for real, not to win and tank the score at 4.0) would agree that he has the arsenal of shots to hang at 4.5.
Yeah, Sarosh is just as terrible as Kern is. Obviously neither can compete in the 4.5s.
ReplyDelete4.5 people are a bunch of asses. you guys think yall are the shit.
ReplyDeleteAnybody can win if they cheat enough. He has a great drop shot but bad eyesight.
ReplyDeleteAny of you guys captaining teams would take advantage of anyone with a rating you need for your team to do well, you included Chris Towle. Get over the whole Sarosh thing, none of us care to hear it. This happens every year in 4.0, and 4.5 (Adam Kent is the topic of conversation in 4.5).
ReplyDeleteI feel so fortunate for being called out by an anonymous pinocha.
ReplyDeleteIt was Freeman's BBQ, not mine. I was just along for the ride.
Chris
definitely agree that sarosh is overated and would get spanked in 4.5 singles. what's worst then that is his doubles. what's worst then both of these is his vision.
ReplyDeletePretty good... that was funny.
ReplyDeleteWhat's even worse is all this whining when he has yet to play a 4.5 league match. How about we let him play a match then rip him up like we are all perfect.
ReplyDeleteI will reserve judgement till the day I kick his @ss.
Well, the Great S will have to play soon if he expects to get qualified for the playoffs. He did play doubles last week, but that appeared relatively easy considering the score.
ReplyDeleteA little bird told me that the great S is ready to play and will be in the line up this week.
ReplyDeleteEnough with Kingwood and the Met. Knowing Houston weather, the match will be rained out again. Then what will we have to talk about?
Almost makes the other top teams feel like 2nd class citizens in the league. Speak up Copperfield, Mob and Westside, how do you guys like being taken so lightly?
Everyone seems more interested in talking about the Great S. Very little has been posted about Adam Kent joining NOHO Benzon team and Copperfield's 4.5 team Copperfield or that Ted P from the Mob Squad lost to Hai Vu over the weekend.
ReplyDeleteThat probably sums it up: the majority of the posters on here have issues with the Great S, or the MET and or Kingwood team.
is the great "s" going to dominate and be on top of the food chain? is he the Met's top player and secret weapon?
ReplyDeletethe great "s" would get pounded this week. just going to be out matched.
ReplyDeleteWow!!! Seems like Sarosh is back in news!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd also seems like this site is dedicated to Sarosh/MET/Kingwood!
He'll be old news after Thurs
ReplyDeleteLike a previous poster said: Sarosh and the MET is in the new so much, that it appears the only people who post are/is someone who dislikes the Great S (we all know one of them from previous postings), or someone who dislikes someone associated with the MET team.
ReplyDeleteGet over it!!! Most of us could care less. Talk about the other teams.
Anything interesting in 4.0 side of life?
ReplyDeleteAre the playoffs teams now set?
4.0 might as well not exist to most of these guys.
ReplyDelete4.0 is better, they don't have as much ego as the 4.5 people. They do have some drama bc of the bs Chancellor tried to pull... sounds like they took this strategy from the 4.5 teams
ReplyDelete4.5 egos are way out of proportion to the ability. I would bet that the 4.0 Met team could beat the "strong" 4.5 Westside team if they played. 4.5 snobs would never beleive me though.
ReplyDeleteYou might be right.
ReplyDeleteThe egos in 4.0 and 4.5 are no different, just so happens that the people posting on here like to call out the 4.5s. If Benzon, who is the topic of conversation in 4.5, was a 4.0 team captain, you guys would be bitching about him in 4.0 too.
ReplyDeleteHow are the egos at the 5.0 level?
ReplyDeleteWhy won't Knutson take on Red's challenge? His team is not going to Dallas anyways since they lost last week to Kingwood.
ReplyDeleteThe only way Knutson's team could take Benzon's sectionals spot away is to beat Benzon's team this weekend, and the make up match they have not played. And of course not lose to Kingwood in their last match.
ReplyDeleteMost 5.0 guys play and could care less about anything else. There are a few 4.5 guys on 5.0 teams that chime in on the website here and there.
ReplyDeleteYou notice the better they are, the less they talk crap. 5.0 and up are the bomb!!! Its those 4.5 player that are sorry/bench warmers that talk.
ReplyDeletedid you really just say that the 4.0 met team could beat a 4.5 team (west side)that is 1st in their division?? Who has the egos now? Any of the playoff bound teams in 4.5 would beat the best 4.0 team. Unless, of course, there is more cheating going on than I thought.
ReplyDeleteLet's try another topic:
ReplyDeleteWho are the top 5 singles players in 4.0 and 4.5?
After being around the 4.5 world a little this year I would have to say that my 2008 4.0 team could not beat any of the 4.5 playoff teams this year (maybe not even all the 4.0 playoff teams). However, I'm not sure I would have felt that way about my 2007 4.0 team.
ReplyDeleteRegardless, this is probably just the "Freeman disinformation machince" speaking or maybe my current players are just "tank[ing] the[ir] score(s) at 4.0" like my past players obviously did..........I'll leave that to the experts.
Roberto N. could beat several of the 4.5 in Singles from the playoff teams. You just haven't played him Singles yet. I assume he will be unleashed in the playoffs.
ReplyDeleteI like that earlier question. Top singles players at 4.5 and 4.0? Any ideas?
ReplyDeleteTop 4.5 singles player are Dibua, Phan and Hai Vu.
ReplyDeleteI think Hunkler, Lopez and Ahmed would be the best 4.5 players.
ReplyDeleteHai Vu had a good win over over Ted P and all of a sudden he is a superstar singles player? Great win, but i need to see a few more singles wins over top players before i buy that. Not sure if Jimmy is ready to throw him out their in singles every week just yet, but i am sure he will find his way in to more singles matches.
ReplyDeleteMy pics are Ted P, Steve Phan, Brian Mills, Don Rios, Dibua, Armstrong, and Lopez. Need to see Ahmed on the singles court before i put him in the list. Hasker could do some damage, but never seen him play, and being that I havent seen the Copperfield guys play, I'm sure there is a player or two that belong.
ReplyDeleteAny good singles players outside of Kingwood and Met? Not to break up the love fest or anything.
ReplyDeleteJonathan Magid
ReplyDeleteAdam Kent and Kudrick at Copperfield, but Kent has yet to hit the courts being he just signed on to Benzon and Copperields team.
ReplyDeleteI'm picking MET in a shocker over CRUSH 3-2
ReplyDeleteKingwood Crush will bring out the Broom. Or Maybe the Met could get 1 line if the big S plays but unlikely. Crush will make a stament to the Hurricanes Guranteeed!
ReplyDeleteWho knows, maybe Kingwood will kick some tail tomorrow. But I doubt any match will be won easily by either side.
ReplyDeleteYou heard it hear first. Kilshaw gets overconfident. Hurricanes win 4-1.
ReplyDeletekingwood is overrated... they won't make it out of houston
ReplyDeleteKingwood is not overrated, they are a good quality team with tremendous depth. But that does not mean they are not beatable.
ReplyDeleteon the 4.0: Jonathan Hao Nguyen, Ricardo Martinez, Roberto Narajos, Eddie Permodoro
ReplyDeleteTheese would be the top 4.0 singles players. Notice that 3 of the 4 play on Met. That should mean trouble for the other 4.0 playoff teams.
Speaking of overrated; who are the most overrated players at 5.0, 4.5 and 4.0?
ReplyDeleteoverated 4.5 players...Sarosh, Knutson
ReplyDeleteany predictions on tonight's 4.0 matches? We already know hurricanes will win 5-0...
ReplyDeleteThere are some intersting 4.0 matches tonight in Divisions I & II.
ReplyDeleteDivision I:
Copperfield (8-0) has clinched first place in the division but 2nd place is still up for grabs with Bear Creek (5-3) and Lost Forest (5-3) in contention.
Copperfield travels to Bear Creek tonight in a must win match for Bear Creek and a "play all your bench players" match for Copperfield. I'm Lost Forest would love to see Copperfield give Bear Creek their 4th loss of the year. I'm predicting Bear Creek 3-2 just to keep things intersting.
Division II:
Chancellors (8-0) has clinched first place as well but there are 4 teams with a mathmatical shot at 2nd place with JCC (6-1), Willowfork (6-2), Westside (5-3) and Village Place (4-3). JCC is in control of their own destiny but they have 2 challenging matches remaining @ Westside tonight and @ Village Place in a make-up match. My prediction is Westside will win 3-2 tonight to keep Division III interesting for one more week.
Any news on the Chancellor's "scoring" issues? DQ or no DQ?
ReplyDeleteBreaking News! Sarosh is injured with a chipped fingernail. will not be able to play for another 3 months.
ReplyDeleteDoes it really matter to anyone but the MET team when Sarosh plays? No, probably not!!! So quit bringing him up every other post.
ReplyDeleteLong live the Great Sarosh, he's back and better than ever.
ReplyDeleteI am back, ready to play and will be kicking some butt tonight.
ReplyDeleteI am the gift to tennis. You shall get on your knees and bow when I beat you.
ReplyDeleteGreat "S"
I've never met Sarosh so I have to ask, has he really done enough serious stuff to you guys to justify all the nasty personal attacks constantly being made by posters here? I'm inclined to root for the guy just because of the abuse. It's a freakin tennis league guys. Am I missing something?
ReplyDeleteIs it true Phi has never won a match in Dallas?
ReplyDeleteI think he won some doubles matches last year, but you can see his record by going to the USTA site.
ReplyDeletesoooo? results from tonight?
ReplyDeleteKingwood over MET 3-2
