Policies are one thing but they are an absentee staff. They don't listen to the players and really do nothing to help the game grow. It's been the status quo since I've been a part of it and it's time for a change.
ReplyDeleteGreat points 10:03! Yeah, the National USTA just hands out National CTA of the Year honors to organizations that do nothing to grow the game. Off with their heads, why not World CTA of the Year? Yeah, exactly!
ReplyDeletenoticed schlensker beat plummer. what happened, did he get better or plummer didnt play well?
ReplyDeleteWas Pete Rios bumped to 4.5 at midyr then again to 5.0 at year end?
ReplyDeletestrange how he got spanked in 4.5 but still got bumped. and someone like sydney jim gets bumped from 5.5 to 4.5
ReplyDeleteFor all players 3.0 - 5.5 who want to keep up on their game, join the Houston Tennis Ladder: http://www.tennisladders.net/component/search/?views=search&layout=city_list&uid=39&city=Houston
ReplyDeleteIt's free!
Spring Leagues are off and running. Early results appear some of the stronger players are not playing. Lot of new players to the leagues due to rating adjustments. What are the predictions, Lobocylpse is an early favorite in 4.5.
ReplyDeleteWhat about the HTA Spring league open(4.5+) teams? Who do you pick out of that bunch based on the players on those 4 teams? 2 Memorial Park teams, Sugar creek, and Mason Creek.
ReplyDeleteWhen is the tri level tourney?
ReplyDeleteWhere is sandwich blaster?
ReplyDeleteSandwich blaster is busy climbing the tennis ladder!
ReplyDeleteAny Babu sightings?
ReplyDeleteTri Level looks like a joke. Two teams for all of Houston?
ReplyDeleteLobocalypse and Baer in for a beating tonight against Cooper and company(LeelaCleer)
ReplyDeleteLooks like Baer got scared and didn't even show. Too bad for Lobocalypse because Anthony and Bobby both got slapped around pretty good.
ReplyDeleteI played open level that night and helped my team sweep Mason Creek. If you want to play, hit me up. Don't be scared.
DeleteP.baer
Who won or who even played in Tri Level for the men, I can't find anything anywhere........

ReplyDeleteTri-Level is a tough sell, in that many 4.5 players don't have friends who play 3.5 and vice versa. Still, the HTA does a poor job of encouraging participation and promoting Tri-Level. There were seven Tri-Level teams in Dallas this year, and Houston barely scraped together two teams.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to be on Freeman/Red's roster this year basically as a benchwarmer/tackling dummy but HTA disallowed it, citing a 12 person limit to the rosters and passing up the fee and participation count increase.
Another strange happening at Tri-Level was that a captain apparently protested Tuan Tran's inclusion on Freeman's roster. That captain was not participating. I don't know what the grounds were for the protest but apparently they were upheld. Maybe Tuan had a 4.5 midyear?
Also, whatever happened to the HTA website redesign? I got an email many months ago that they were just about to "go live" with it? Anybody know the details?
And yet the HTA won CTA of the year? They don't push participation in anything. Redesign? I'm sure it was done by someone in the office just like they do with all of their other marketing materials.
ReplyDeleteThe blog on Facebook says that Tuan was protested by Phil Kerig
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of that, I guess I should have mentioned before that Tuan has set up a Houston Tennis group on Facebook. Check it out. There's some interesting (non-anonymous) banter that takes place there.
ReplyDeleteKerig, once a dick, always a dick
ReplyDeleteWell you know what they say. You are what you eat :)
ReplyDeleteKering was only protesting because there is a weight class and Tuan superseded it, remember they already have Red pushing the limits on the team.
ReplyDeleteFreeman is no lightweight either.
DeleteDoes Red even SHOW up his matches anymore ? Or has he stolen so much money from people, that he's too scared to show?
ReplyDeleteI am visiting from out of state. I find it basically impossible to get a womens doubles match (for fun) at the 4.5 level. I tried calling different clubs to try and be a 4th also tried HLT assoc. Got a nice email from them but with no avail! I come in to town twice a year. I find it a shame that it seems real difficult to get into a game. I have taken drills and tried to get connected via a pro .. but again with no success!
ReplyDeleteOh well I guess you have to live here to pick up a good match... too bad!
