The Beaumont Labor Day Open Tournament was cancelled due to the weather this past weekend. The year's biggest tournament, Texas Adult Sectionals, will be contested this coming weekend.
Some local players received high seedings based on their success over the past year. In 4.0 singles, Matt Drake is seeded first, but in my mind will be an underdog in his first match against league player Kevin Pimm. Carlos Quijano was awarded the second seed. Brian Goldberg, Herb Morton and John Griffin join top seed John Patch among the seeded players in Men's 4.5. Tim Green and David Guy are the two seeded players in 5.0. Guy will face Jason Gound in the first round.

Any comments on how the seeded players will do at sectionals this weekend in 4.5?
ReplyDeleteany upset specials?
ReplyDeleteNo comments, don't care.
ReplyDeleterios will get slapped down against gloria in 1st rd. why dont this guy play his level. if you lose 1st rd, wouldnt that tell you that your not good enough for that level.
ReplyDeleteLuis Perez is playing open singles at sectionals. The dude was ranked as high as 571 in the world. Good luck beating that guy. Would be fun to watch him play Robert Collins but Collins is playing 30's. Morris and Wiegand will win open doubles. Guy will win 5.0 singles. 4.5 singles is full of solid players. My guess is that JD Miles will meet Del Campo in the final with Del Campo winning a very close match. 4.5 doubles expect to see Swanson /Johnson and Gloria / Del Campo in the final. Del Campo might be too worn out after his singles run to win both events.
ReplyDeleteTime to tank.
ReplyDeleteTank you very much!
Tanking won't do you much good if you had a good run at sectionals last month.
ReplyDeleteI actually think Rios should give Gloria a tough match first round. Also, look for Sal Castillo to do some serious damage in the 4.5 draw and possibly win it all. The dude is ranked #1 in the world in 50's singles...
ReplyDeleteThe 4.5 tournament was over the moment they put Castillo in the draw. I know he's been dealing with a knee injury, but he's still heads and tails above anyone else in 4.5.
ReplyDeleteSal is closer to 5.5 than 4.5...perinial #1 in the world in his age group...silly to play 4.5 actually!
ReplyDeleteYou're right. Never heard of the guy before this blog, but impressive resume...
ReplyDeletehttp://ustamens55nationalindoor.blogspot.com/2010/02/sal-castillo-grand-slam-champion.html
Excellent! The world's best 4.5 player. I gotta see if I can get him self-rated for my summer USTA league team.
ReplyDeletelet me guess....rios would tank against sal, so he doesnt get dq'd
ReplyDeleteMatt Drake drops out after seeing his draw. Good thing because he had NO CHANCE against Kevin Pimm.
ReplyDeleteWho wins 4.0??
Kevin P, Rios or Carlos Q
Rios-bashers may be interested to know that he beat Mario Gloria 6-0, 7-6 this morning.
ReplyDeleteGreat win, Pete!! Keep going!
ReplyDeleteI took a look at the 4.5 draw. They didn't even seed Castillo. I guess being #1 in the world in the 50's doesn't get much respect. Of, of course, TTA is oblivious to Castillo being in the 4.5 draw.
ReplyDeleteBTW, good win for Rios. His next round looks easier, but that usually is the kiss of death for Pete.
Rios bashers aren't talking so much anymore. Give the guy credit, he wins some he loses some.
ReplyDeletePETE RIOS TOO GOOD
ReplyDeleterios still lost 3rd rd. RIOS STILL SUCKS. why dont this joker play and win a 4.0 tourney before he tries playing a 4.5 tourney.
ReplyDelete11:40 - Just curious, how many rounds at 4.5 Adult Sectionals did you win? Zero? Thought so.
ReplyDeletehas rios even won any tournaments?
ReplyDeleteAny previews/predictions for the fall league? Or does no one care about that?
ReplyDeleteIn 4.5ms the usual top 2 teams of Mason Creek and The Masters and the lakeside team is good also. Should be interesting with those 3 teams since the Masters has some new players and lakeside has several 5.0 players.
ReplyDeleteAs predicted, Sal Castillo won the 4.5 singles. My question is why did he sign up for this tournament? What is the point? I know one thing - this guy is an arrogant prick that still feels the need to cheat his overmatched opponents. Go back to playing your age division you sorry piece of shit.
ReplyDeleteNice captain's party this year! Thanks for nothing HTA.
ReplyDeleteWhat the Frick is up with TennisLink? Where do you enter scores now?
ReplyDeletewhere's rios? did he disappear after sectionals? has his ego been shot? didnt play copperfield and dont see him signed up for fall fest. what a chump.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Houston Senior team for winning sectionals this past weekend.
ReplyDelete833 - you're an ass. I'm going to assume you either lost to him or you have the tennis skills of a 4.0 woman. He's playing mixed that weekend.
ReplyDeletemixed tennis? lol, why not singles? cant hang with the big boys?
ReplyDeleteAgreed. 833 is a moron. Rios may not be great, but look at all the matches he plays. He doesn't duck competition.
ReplyDelete846
ReplyDeleteWhy don't you challenge Rios in a singles match? You talk a big game so prove yourself.
rios is the one talking smack during summer league, tournaments, and has not proved that he can hang. he runs his mouth and self promotes himself all over this board. who's talking smack???
ReplyDeleteI personally have never heard Rios talking smack during anything and I know him pretty well and am aware that he never posts on this blog. He has better things to do with his time.
ReplyDelete808
ReplyDeleteWhy don't you spend your free time practicing instead of writing on the blog? You might get better.
IS THAT YOU RIOS? havent beaten anyone lately, so you can gloat?
ReplyDeleteNo you dumbass it isn't.
ReplyDeleteRIOS SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing it just one fool who got smoked by Rios who is doing all of the bashing. It's ok, 6:48, even 3.5s are allowed to post on this blog.
ReplyDeleteMet Rios for the first time in SA. Seemed like a nice guy. Watched him play, good player. Looks like it's one guy(CHILD) posting neg things about him on here so I say we all just ignore this person(KID)and get on with posting about tennis.
ReplyDeletedid rios quit tennis? no sign-up for singles at copperfield nor fall fest. is he tired of getting whooped in 4.5s? has he finally realized that his ego is bigger then his game and disappear like the great sarosh?
ReplyDeleteSeems like H town is hibernating. Hurricane 4.0 is going to Nationals this week in Tucson Az. They have a tough flight. If they can produce the high level of play like they did in Dallas, then everybody else better watch out. A lot of ratings will be determined by how they do IP there. Good luck to them.
ReplyDeleteGood luck Hurricanes at Nationals ...We're all rooting for y'all. Represent Houston well.
ReplyDeleteCheers!
JM
Rios will choke and have a losing record. You heard it here first.
ReplyDelete1124
ReplyDeleteGrow a pair - I bet you lost to Rios.
Good luck at Nationals!
Give 'em hell, Hurricanes. We're rooting for you. Post if you can.
