4.0 is boring. To be honest, 4.5 seems boring this year too. Here are my picks.
Div I
I'll pick Copperfield Shock and Awe. To be honest many of the 4.0 rosters are a mystery to me, as the turnover in 4.0 has been especially high over the past couple of years. I'm going to stick with the team/captains that have had success.
Div II
The Good Guys. I really think this team will be good. They have several guys who must have barely escaped being bumped. They'll be dangerous in the playoffs.
Div III
I have absolutely no clue. I'll guess Cinco Ranch North Aces.
Div IV
Lakeside. Danny Vu has gotten a lot of pub, but Lakeside has a guy who's equally strong. Rodney Kubicek, who has often done well in the Open division of the tough Oilman's tournament, went 4-0 in city playoffs and also undefeated at sectionals. His only loss was a late season probable tank job. How did he stay 4.0??? One bad match at Senior Nationals can trump everything else... Lakeside will have one line secured. Can they get 2 more in the playoffs?
Div V
The only division with two (alleged) heavyweights. Yeah, I'm Mr. Negative, but I do think Chancellor's will take it. They have a lot of returning talent and have mixed in some new blood. Quite honestly, after Vu the Hurricanes roster doesn't wow anyone.
Div VI
I'm not buying all of the Unicorn naysayers (possibly team members). I played great when I was on steroids, so I wouldn't write off Phillip Yang. Hahaha. I check the rosters often, and Lakeside, Chancellor's and the Unicorns are my first stops. They all scare me. (as do the Good Guys)
That said, The Sienna Aces have amassed a lot of talent and could take this division if I'm overrating the Unicorns. They play in week one. Huge matchup with playoff implications. I hope both teams are able to bring out their best lineups.

Brad Brainfart Beinart is a 4.0 Hurricaine? What a joke. I hope Jason enjoys babysitting.
ReplyDeleteI think Freddie is going to win The coke
ReplyDeleteWho is Brad? Who is Freddie?
ReplyDeletedon't know who brad is but i'm assuming they are talking about Freddy Soewito (captain of MPTC-RPM) with the Tx A&M club players on his team
ReplyDeleteYou cannot be seriously comparing Vu and Rodney. Vu would beat him in singles 6-0, 6-0. Rodney is a decent senior doubles player but is not in the same league as Vu. Vu has never played 4.0 and when he played 4.5 he dominated.
ReplyDeleteSo if Vu dominated in 4.5 how is he able to play in4.0?
ReplyDeleteI would agree... Vu didn't dominate in 4.5. Wasn't most of his matches in doubles too?
ReplyDeleterecent years: Vu has victories over Hal Hale, Ryan Cooper, Jochen Mocher, Herb Morton, John Swartley and Ted Phoummarith to name a few.
ReplyDeletethat's an impressive list to me.
ReplyDeleteVu? Freddie took and ate his breakfast, lunch and dinner
ReplyDeleteIf they have more than 2 players from TexAM club tennis then they would have too many players outside the legal 50 mile radius.
ReplyDeleteWhat are the big match ups this week?
ReplyDeleteYou're on the hurricanes 4.0 team and you don't think much of them? How can think you're not downplaying your own team?
ReplyDeleteDid anyone notice that the "yo-yo" Kristopher Knutson is again tanking this year. Every year he gets raised to 4.5 and then loses on purpose to get down to 4.0. This kind of shit has got to stop. He has no morals. Blatant cheating if you ask me.
ReplyDeleteKnutson can't win against the top 4.5 players so I'm not sure if he's tanking. He probably would win against average 4.5 players.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, some of us have noticed. And Tuyen Nguyen, Richard Patton, Bruce Inting. Come on, losing 1 and 3 to guys like Tanner Garth, David Wallis? Nice guys and all but not capable of beating those guys straight-up by scores anything like that. Look at Tuyen’s results in Mens’ vs. Mixed (which doesn’t count for ratings if you play enough Mens’), for example. Hurricanes 4.0 are looking to be pretty strong in 2012. But remember as bad as we have it here, the problem is nothing like it is in Dallas and Ft. Worth. Take Bill Stetzer, a 4.0 Senior player from Ft. Worth. Been to Nationals three times in the last two years, and won twice, but stays at 4.0. Compare his record in the leagues that matter with his Fall record. This doesn’t happen by accident. Lots of other DFW guys (Bob Bender, Glenn Flora to name but two) do the same thing. There are solutions, but the USTA doesn’t care to implement them. We’ll keep trying to convince them, but it’s like talking to a wall.
ReplyDeleteHere are my picks for 4.5 by division:
ReplyDeleteI. LCC-Men 4.5, LLTC-Katy Coaches
II. This is a tough one. Swing/Gypsies/Black Sheep. I'm not sure which two to pick, but since Black Sheep lost 1 already I will go with Swing, Gypsies
III. LLTC-Hurricanes 4.5, Who cares?
IV. Copperfield, LLTC-Deucebags
V. Chancellors, JCC-Blast
It looks like Sugar Creek winning last year was based off of A. Ford. I don't see the Deucebags going to far in the playoffs either, unless they get better singles players.
Just because the Duecebags don't have a bunch of guys that only play singles doesn't mean they don't have guys that CAN play singles.
ReplyDeleteI think bags has Tran, no.1 singles, and Chavarria 2, These guys can play and will win if they have to play singles, so look out league lets not pissed them off. Bags all the way to Dallas and cannot be stop.
ReplyDeleteFrom the List of Names I have read, the Unicorns have a bunch of sleepers, quite a few people I have never heard of and also Yang plays a lot of tennis with the younger crowd, I am sure he has recruited a few ringers people don't know about, but then again I hear he recruited quite a few scrubs as well.
ReplyDeleteThe Unicorns blew away the Sienna Aces in week one. Sienna sucks.
ReplyDeleteThey suck now because their two Super Champ kids got kicked off their roster. Nice try Sienna.
ReplyDeleteHurricanes 4.0 lost one too
ReplyDeleteThey suck now too.
ReplyDeleteThe Aces did not have two Super Champ kids you idiot.
ReplyDeleteUh.. super champ kids are not allowed to play 4.0.... Plus even without them the matches were pretty close based on the scores.
ReplyDeletePhil Kerig, you run your mouth to much. We will send you a post card from nationals and guess what, we'll all be 4.0 again next year.
ReplyDeleteFW Geezer
I hear the Unicorns took out the dogs 5-0, and Sienna(who lost to the Unicorns) beat the Ace and Spinners 5-0.....Its becoming pretty clear who is going to win that section.
ReplyDeleteI saw the 4.0 Hurricanes playing, Yamguci was looking solid in doubles, while they had some short asian guy in singles dismantle some black guy.
I think they are still contenders.
The Super Champs off of Sienna were booted not because they were supers but because one of them went 9-0 in 4.0s.
ReplyDeleteno matter what hurricanes will still dominate and there aint nuthing y'all can do bout it!!!
ReplyDeleteGUILLA!
ReplyDeleteSienna still sucks
ReplyDeleteSienna Overhitters are the team to watch. Aces got lucky last night.
ReplyDeleteyes, hurricanes will dominate. YALL CANT STOP US!
ReplyDeletesienna never had two super champs, at most those guys were only champs.
ReplyDeleteThose guys were bumped to 4.5 and are holding their own, going 3 sets against Sugarcreek and Chancellors. They were super champs in 16s. The rule changed in 2011. Sienna was not trying to cheat.
