Great matches yesterday. Glad the rain stopped by but didn't stay.
Here is how 3.5 looks (we will give them top billing since they never get any love):
There are two spots for Houston this year.
The Pearland team and Tran's Expendables are both 2-0 coming into the final non-factor match.
Mike is carry a lot of self rates on this team. Advice: Play for 2nd place today. Leave the pride in the car. They are on the court now!
Here is how 4.0 Looks:
For Flight I -
CuField has to win against Westside to stay out in front of Good Guys. If Lance's team trips up and/or gets a DQ then it could be Good Guys who come out on top with fewer losses as of now. They need a 4-1 or better result to avoid getting burnt by the DQ. Oh the irony of that happening.
Also outside chance that Westside wins v. CuField and has enough lines to end up on top. After 0-5 v. Good guys that seems unlikely.
For Flight II -
Mob Sqaud has locked it up. Even in the even of a 0-5 loss to Cinco they will still come out ahead with fewest losses. I would expect to see some line score management in this one...
It will be interesting to see how Thursday goes next week as the winner's flight is defined, the wildcard bracket is still TBD. Good move by Texas to withhold this info.
For 4.5:
Flight I:
Hurricanes are in drivers seat with match against Blacksheep today. They are looking good with only 2 losses to date, so even a loss to Westside still has them probable first place.
Lakeside has easy one today against Deucebags.
Prediction is: Hurricanes, Lakeside, Westside
Flight II:
For all the smack talking JCC is sitting pretty going into Sunday.
They are playing the 0-2 HRC team. Jam and CuField get to beat each other up this AM for 2nd place. What happend to all of these junior studs everyone was saying is the gravy train to Arizona?
I hope I get to see my good friend again today in the parking lot. I have NEVER been flicked off by a 60 year old woman in my life. If I was only faster with my camera that could have been the background for the blog for the rest of the year.
Damn you towle!! We needed you to pull out those tiebreakers to get the canes to sectionals. I guess your going to sectionals with noho so it didnt matter.
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly it. I was just toying with them the whole time and let them have it at the end of the breaker.
DeleteHardly the case.
What did we learn this weekend boys and girls? If you live by the superchamp you can lose by the superchamp by 1)They get dq by kicking to much ass and not easing up on the gas. 2) They might have a tournament the same weekend as playoffs. 3) They might get grounded and car taken away by sneaking alcohol out of mom and dad's bar. 4) Predictions are usually wrong on this site but yet entertaining...
ReplyDeleteLOL Is #3 true? Did one of Copperfield's juniors really get "grounded"?
DeleteThis is so true. Even if the Copperfield kids played and they won, Mommy and Daddy may not have let them go ALL THE WAY TO DALLAS by themselves to play sectionals.
DeletePlease USTA, have a division for the kids that is separate from the adults. I think that it is not appropriate that after a match now, I have to check ID's before I pass out the beers. THIS IS AN ADULT LEAGUE!
Who won the finals in 4.5? 4.0?
ReplyDeleteIn 4.0 CuField was upset by WSTC warrior, open the door for GoodGuy to waltz into final against MOB this Thursday.
Delete4.5 finals will be round 3 of Hurricane vs. Blast, time and location TBA
DeleteCongrats to mob squad and good guys in 4.0. Two very good teams that should represent Houston well at sectionals in Dallas. Was a great experience to play again in the playoffs this year, lots of strong players and good matches. Hopefully see everyone again next year!
ReplyDeleteWhy aren't the scores reversed in TennisLink for the DQs that happened over the weekend. THe only only match reversal I see is Andrew Nguyen against Copperfield but none of the others are reversed.
ReplyDeletePhi Nguyen's score were reversed, too. He still has the victory check, when you add up the team's final standing, you'll find out that the scores were reversed.
DeletePredictions on any more DQs after the computers run tomorrow morning?
ReplyDeleteYes, Sienna and Cinco Ranch advance b/c they are the only true 4.0 teams that were at city this weekend.
ReplyDeleteDeucebags won ONE line the entire playoffs. LMFAO!
ReplyDeleteKEEP THE KIDS OUT OF OUR ADULT LEAGUES!!! If you aren't old enough to drink, then you shouldn't be allowed to play in the adult leagues. Are the adults at Copperfield happy now that they didn't get to play as many league matches this year so that the kids could play? When city playoffs came, the kids either got DQ's, got grounded, or decided to go play a junior tournament. Are you happy now? It used to be fun to play at Copperfield and have a beer with the guys after the match. Now only water and sodas are legal. GET THE KIDS OUT OF THE ADULT LEAGUES!!!!
ReplyDeleteHow about lets get the whiny bitches out of the league. The rules are the rules. If you are 18 you can be rated and you can play. Frankly, I like playing against the "kids". It's better tennis.
DeleteI like playing against the adults. I have kids at home. Thursday nights are my nights to get away from the kids. I agree with this post to keep the kids out of the adult leagues. I believe that this rule that we have to live by right now is a bad rule and needs to be changed. Yes, rules are rules, but this is stupid. I can play tennis with my kids on the weekends.
DeleteMaybe you haven't been reading the blog? The rules are already changed for next year. There will be a bracket for ages 18-40, 40-55 and over 55 next year. And last I checked, an 18 year old is considered an adult.
DeleteAgree with Anonymous #1 and Lance...an 18-year old is considered to be an adult (though we'll use the term "adult" loosely) and it is better competition. Isn't that what a lot of us are out there for? To compete?
DeleteIf you want to just "hang out and have a beer" maybe you should consider something else. Like bowling. I hear the shirts are cool...
7:21, you are legally an adult at 18. get over it. if you are not getting match play, then maybe you need to improve or find another team.
ReplyDeletei'm not a alain tran fan, and cant stand his little man complex. one guy can make entire dbag team look bad. however, in defense of the dbag, they have made playoffs in all 4 seasons of their existence. no other team, other then the canes, can claim that.
Copperfield isn't Alain's team you moron.
Deleteread asshole. it saids dbag. two separate posting in one. did you fall off the dumb dumb tree?
Deletedbags made the playoffs because their division sucked. they talk a lot of crap, but no talking now. they are the worst team other then hrc and they even suck more.
Deletedbags made the playoffs made the playoffs for the last 4 years and it looks like they had fun doing it. luck doesnt happen 4 years in a roll.
Deletedid the dbag have fun losing too?
DeleteYep. Had a lot of fun playing in the playoffs instead of sitting on my ass on the sidelines whining about not making in!
DeleteAdults dont get grounded by their parents
DeleteBut the married guys do get grounded by their wife.
DeleteAny news on mid year ratings?
ReplyDeleteShould be out this afternoon.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to all the group winners this weekend. In the end some of the teams faltered because of the lack of depth when players were out. In our 4.0 flight the Good Guys seemed to have the most depth and prevailed. To all the teams - good luck in Dallas!
ReplyDeleteI agree with the earlier comment about junior play, once a player hits 18 and are legally adults then they should be allowed to play in the league without anyone complaining.
Mike Salinas
Welcome back to 4.5 Mike!!
ReplyDeleteWith the Hurricanes and JCC going 6-0 in the 4.5 playoffs over the weekend, it begs the question - How good were the Good-er Guys? Were they the 3rd best 4.5 team in Houston?
ReplyDeleteno...gooder guys would be 6 or 7.
ReplyDeleteGood Guys rule 4.0!!! You can't stop us!!!
ReplyDeleteMob Squad will stop Good Guys in 4.0.
DeleteDoes it seem that there are more DQs this year than in previous ones?? I can think of at 4 that happened over the weekend...
ReplyDelete4? I count 2.
DeletePhi Nguyen, Andrew Nguyen, James Fostasak... just to name a few
DeleteHad Kallus not been DQ'd earlier in the season, would he have made any difference for the Copperfield 4.0 team this weekend?
ReplyDeleteRegading Daniel Kallus, no question Kallus would have made a difference and CF 4.0 would have dominated.
ReplyDeleteActually I believe Copperfield would only have won two more lines, which would still have left them one line short of the title.
ReplyDeleteHad Kallus been available, CF 4.0 would have possibly won all singles lines in every match and would have also helped their doubles lineups on all the matchups. What if's are usually a big waste of time.
ReplyDeleteBig "IF", but seeing some of the caliber singles this weekend. Will give CF an edge of splitting, but sweeping singles is not always 100%
DeleteHard to see Kallus not winning his matches, but if he played Andrew Nyugen, one of the two of them would obviously have been the victor and thus likely DQ'd anyway so his being available to start the weekend would have ended up the same way as it did with his DQ back in May.
DeleteNo joke about Mike's 3.5 Expendables tean. A LOT of self rates with a sandbagger (or two) thrown in. Hope for all the stacking they're doing for a 3.5 team (sad), they take care of business in Dallas.
ReplyDeletePlayoffs always come down to who is available to actually play. We saw that this year in 4.5.
ReplyDeleteAny word on when the mid-year ratings will be released?
ReplyDeleteDidnt seem to bother the canes witjout their big gun
ReplyDeleteI know, I was surprised to see the Canes rested their big gun Rizarri the whole weekend.
DeleteRizarri is definitely big but not necessarily a top 4.5 level player. There is a reason why he has never made it to Dallas. He is lucky Freeman dropped Red and needed a token Filipino fat ass to be his errand boy
DeleteAnother big upset this weekend was hearing Betsie's Natural Guts got beat by the Top Guns. I'm sure not making it out of Houston is a major disappointment.
ReplyDeleteIs Rizzari actually sponsored bu McDonalds?
ReplyDeleteWhere was MOOOOOOSE this weekend?
ReplyDeleteDoes any Houston team have a shot at making it to nationals this year?
ReplyDeleteBetsie made a huge captaining faux pas. She agreed to take the match indoors against an indoor team. Probably cost her but I've heard through the grapevine she may still be in it.
ReplyDeleteRookie.
DeleteBetsie's team is going to Dallas now - major drama in a match this morning, but by default, her team is now rep Houston in Dallas - her team should have gone anyway - now they will have the chance they deserve
ReplyDeletewhat was the drama?
DeleteYou gotta win all your matches. Can't assume you just need to beat Betsie's team and your job is done. Top Guns only showed up with 6 players and lost to Dena's team.
Deletefuck you 4:24pm, i eat mcdonalds bitch!
Deleteyou look like you ate mcd's ho!
DeleteMoooose is grounded. He girlfriend is starring in teen moms on MTV...U might see the camera's following him in Dallas.
ReplyDeleteLine Up predictions for 4.0 & 4.5 Finals anybody?
ReplyDeletegood guys 3-2 victory and then go to dallas to help rebuild the mavericks.
ReplyDeletegood guys finish last. expect a sweep. this ain't the mobs first go around.
Deletethe good gays would try and rebuild a team like the mavs.
ReplyDeleteThe MOB SQUAD will not do anything in Dallas just like last year. They are just happy they made it to Dallas.
ReplyDeleteThe mob prepares for dallas by using rosetta stone
Deletewhy cant any of those mob squad guys wear a shirt that fits them?
DeleteBecause FOBs can't read plus the captain thinks he wears a size small.
DeleteWhat happen to Copperfield and the Hurricanes?
ReplyDeleteRed ate Copperfield and Rizarri ate Hurricanes
DeleteI seriously can't tell the difference between those 2 guys
Deleterizarri is straight up class act and good for tennis. dont know why he is involved with freeman or red. what happened to red? didnt see him all weekend. did he bail out on sugar creek after their lost to blast? how about ash as well?
DeleteRizarri has never made it to Dallas and probably would have never unless he played on a stacked team like the Hurricanes. And even on this stacked team he lost half of his regular season matches in the regular season so of course he didnt get any playing time in the playoffs. So the question is, is making it to Dallas worth it even if you don't contribute anything to the team?
DeleteRobert is a good guy. This is his first year to city playoffs and will be his first year to sectionals. Give the guy a break. Whether he plays and wins or not is irrelevant.
Deleteanyone can jump on a good team. contributing thats a diff story
DeleteMy guess is Rizarri doesn't give a shit what any of you think. He is just like Chevy Chase in Christmas Vacation - "merry x-mas, merry x-mas, kiss my ass, kiss your ass, kiss his ass, etc..."
DeleteKey players were missing from every roster in 4.5 except the JCC.
ReplyDeleteJam- missing Jim
Canes- missing Mooose arguably their best player. Doing as well as they did showed how deep they really are.
Blacksheep- missing Sanborn,Doucette,Muhala,Frederick,Alzate
Copperfield- missing Bombonatti,Singh
Jam didn't have Burrmann first round against JCC along with Jim. Huge difference.
Deleteyes, i am sponsored by mickie Ds. burger king wouldnt give me free soft drinks.
ReplyDeleteExcuses don't count! Everyone knew the Playoff Dates in advance. You have to do what you have do.
ReplyDeleteIm sure that some of the teams that will advance to sectionals will be shorthanded. Players have to be into the league to want to play.
ReplyDeleteHey guys can anyone buy me a bottle of vodka when we get to Dallas? I promise not to tell the USTA and I need a break from the old ball and chain....You can't miss me, about 6'5, skinny as a bean pole, and I walk with a swagger cause I'm a 4.5. Sincerely, The MOOOOOOOOOOOOSE
ReplyDeleteSure MOOOOOOOOOOOSE I got you. Just make sure you bring the cannon to Dallas. We're gonna need it.
ReplyDeleteI can legally buy the cigars and Pall Malls so those are on my after we celebrate our trip to nationals, its just the booze that's the problem. Don't forget the apple shnapps for my martinis!! I was at comicon in San Diego debating who would win a superhero battle between Iron Man and Daredevil but not to worry I got lots of autograghs and even got my picture taken with Spock..Lenord somebody...guys you have got to go its the bomb!! Sincerelly, Moooooooooooooooose
ReplyDeleteAre u kidding me? Spock would begal the Mooooose in the Mutara Nepula on the Enterprises Indoor Facility. The only chance moooooose would have to win is if he got a top ranked Klingon from another system who was much younger and trained continuously hours upon hours for only one purpose, to win....
ReplyDeleteJesus, what has this blog become?
ReplyDeletealternate science fiction convention? lol
ReplyDeleteSo now that we know which teams are advancing. Who has the best chance of winning Sects?
ReplyDeleteM5.0 Copperfield
M4.5 JCC
M4.5 Hurricanes
M4.0 Good Guys
M4.0 Mob Squad
W4.5 Nat Guts
W4.0 Copperfield I
W4.0 Copperfield II
IMHO
ReplyDeleteCField 5.0 Men have the best chance of making it to Nats
I don't see any of the M4.0 or 4.5 making it to Sunday. Possibly Cane 4.5 but not likely
On the Women's side. No disrespect to my friends at CField but Betsie's 4.5 team has the best chance of winning it all. It was a fluke that her team lost and they will likely prove it in Dallas.
Lisa's CField team is decent and with a weak flight will make it to Sunday.
I agree with most of this except I think you're undrestimating the MOB.
ReplyDeleteIf the hurricanes get past wild Dallas, they will play on Sunday.
ReplyDeletemy picks - this is to play on Sunday - not to win it all. I think Cfield 5.0 and Hollis 4.5 are the only teams that could make it to Nats.
ReplyDeleteCfield M5.0
Hollis W4.5
Canes M4.5
Cfield W4.0
Mob M4.0
Canes M4.5
Good Guys M4.0
Cfield W 4.0 WC
