Got tired of dancing around tennislink this AM looking for results.
Looks like Htown (Winner, Wild and Noho) are doing well thus far.

4.0 Hurricanes will win sectionals.
ReplyDeletesign
I told you so, clueless.
how many teams go to nationals?
ReplyDeleteI agree 4.0 Hurricanes are my favorites to win sectionals.
ReplyDeleteBetsie's team had a tough loss this morning vs NETX. Lost 3 third-set TBs. One was 10-8 the other 12-10. Came back strong in the 2nd match sweeping Ft Worth
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately San Antonio could not beat NETX either so now NETX has beaten the other two top teams in that flight and only have the weaker teams to deal with. That really sucks. Need a miracle.
ReplyDeleteHow did Houston 4.0 lose to SETX?
ReplyDeletewow - houston 4.5 not haveing good sectional trip. What happende to Freeman team? Lakeside got rolled too.
ReplyDeleteDQ pete rios, played for TSU
ReplyDeleteHmmm. Houston Men's 4.5 turned in an embarrassing performance at Dallas. The lineups that the 4.5 Hurricanes and 4.5 Lakeside fielded in Dallas would have gotten stomped in city playoffs. The Hurricane's lineups were especially bizarre since they were in it up until the last match of pool play.
ReplyDeleteHurricanes taking care of business so far. They've got a good shot to win this thing.
ReplyDeleteWhy did Houston get the 4.5 WC again? To finish last in each of their flights.
ReplyDeleteHouston 4.0 swept Dallas Wild 5-0 in semifinals. About to play Dallas in the finals against Dallas. Should be a battle!!
ReplyDelete@7:20pm they probably under estimated SETX and fielded their weaker double line-up. Such hindsight cost them to win their flight. Live and learn, live and learn.....
ReplyDeleteHouston 4.0 won the finals 4-1 and are headed to Nationals. Nice work, guys!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to the Hurricanes 4.0!
ReplyDeleteWhat a way to represent Houston! Keep it up and Goodluck at Nationals!
Cheers!

Congrats to Freeman and his team. We gave it all but this was his day. You guys deserved to win and will represent Texas well at National. We will be pulling for you!!
ReplyDeleteBob Somabut
Yes, congrats to Freeman and the Houston team. The best team won. We gave it our best and it made for some high quality tennis. I'm sure you will do well at Nationals and represent Texas well. Nice playing and well deserved. It was a lot of fun.
ReplyDeleteCongrats Hurricanes and even Freeman. You may only be the second worst captain in Texas.
ReplyDeleteKern
You could tell that Freeman's players really wanted the semifinals and finals. All their players were slows up this Sunday.
ReplyDeleteHurricanes and Lubbock this year and last year sectional winners. How did they do it? Easy, the secret is to get players that use to do very well in 4.5s such as Lance Coleman (Lubbock) and Danny Vu (Hurricanes).
ReplyDeleteThey did it by finding new talent like Carlos Q and others.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Jason and Greg, on reaching the final step of the journey. The goal has always been to win the National Championship. The real work begins now. Treat this as the chance of a lifetime, and never regret that you didn't work hard enough. That's what I calculate anyway.

Hmm, lots of Pete Rios detractors this year but looks like he went 5-0 at Sectionals. Hard to say he sucks after that.
ReplyDeleteNo one said rios suck at 4.0, but he's not top 4.5 quality
ReplyDeleteEarly in the season plenty of people said he could not compete at 4.0 sectional level. He played great all weekend and by the looks of the record, he must have beat a good singles player in the finals. I will be the first to retract my statements. He proved me wrong. Good luck at nationals hurricanes.
ReplyDeleteit's not about rios, it's about the entire hurricanes.
ReplyDeleteFYI: Both Dallas 4.0 teams were extremely classy. Both teams will be back again next year and will be tough to beat.
ReplyDeleteAs for Rios, all of the haters may have fueled him. His opponent in the finals was a very high quality player, as were his doubles opponents in the semis.
Classy or not, nobody in Texas stands a chance against the strongest line-up of the Hurricanes (which was never used until the finals of sectionals. Once again, great job right there.) If nobody gets DQ'ed, this team should do well at the nationals.
ReplyDeleteGo HOUSTON!!!
there are no DQ at nationals IIRC.
ReplyDeleteI disagree the stongest line up is Danny Vu playing one singles.
ReplyDeleteyes Chris but there can be dqs this week based on Sectionals results.
ReplyDeleteTHere may be DQs after the computer runs. Capts have 48 hours to protest an S, A, M, or T player. Players that are DQd will not get to go to Nats but Sectional results will not be affected.
ReplyDeleteThe strongest lineup is for sure what they used in the finals of sectionals. Freeman obviously saved this lineup until the end and probably suprised Dallas with it.
ReplyDeleteI disagree. Vu on singles and Rios on doubs is stronger. Head-on Vu would beat Rios. I think a more likely reason why it was pulled out at the end was to keep Rios from getting DQd. Playing singles is the ez road to DQ
ReplyDeleteSorry, i read it as once you get to nationals folks can be DQ'ed which is not the case.
ReplyDeleteI thought at sectionals the algorithm was run when the scores were turned in following each match? Freeman can we get a ruling?
They run the computers at the end of Sectionals. 6:09 above is correct
ReplyDeleteVu is a better singles player than Rios. Vu is just a step down from Ted P. Vu and Ted use to have some marthon matches when Vu was playing 4.5, very similiar players.
ReplyDelete7:09 & 8:40 - If you have seen pete play in the last month or so, you might change your opinion. he's stepped his game up big time. but danny is super good too obviously.
ReplyDeleteHey Greg, why don't you chime in and tell us who the best singles and doubles players are on the Hurricanes and which was the strongest lineups? Who was the MVP of the weekend?
ReplyDeleteThe difference is Pete is a much better doubles player than Danny. So the stronger line up is Danny on Singles and Pete on doubles. Besides the fact that Danny is a better singles player.
ReplyDeleteArata was number one on our singles ladder. By the end of the weekend, Charlie Jones was quite possibly our best doubles player. There were way too many candidates for MVP.
ReplyDeleteI have no idea what our overall best lineup is, honestly. We did try to tailor them for the opponent if possible.
The Hurricanes should win Nationals. The last couple of years the USTA has been bumping all of the descent 4.0 players to 4.5, that it is riducules. Todays 4.0 division is made up of mostly 3.5s of a few years ago. The difference between top 4.0s and top 4.5s has never been greater. I believe the Hurricane team is not weaker than years past just the competition, so they should win Nationals. Hell they even bumped Chris Towle to 4.5s.
ReplyDeleteShut up, Pete
ReplyDeletehaha, no kidding. I have been trying to lose since and have not quite mastered the "Knuston technique".
ReplyDeleteThat was the same thought process in 2007 with the likes of Kern, Sarosh, etc on the 4.0 team and the best lineup was put out and two losses were 2-3 with third set breakers.
You never know what is going to happen and scouting is near difficult at this level.
