I'm not sure if I'll have internet access (or time) over the weekend to properly update the blog. I do plan on getting out and supporting friends/acquaintances/rivals throughout the weekend and hope Houstonians will support each other. I'll print this out to give me an idea of where I might go to check out some of the action.
Here is a list of Houston teams, playing times, opponents and sites for those who might want to check out their friends during down times. Let me know of any errors. Sorry it's not very legible...troubles with Blogger formatting.

I'm in for some Chicken-minis!!!! Is there a Chick-fil-a close to the tournament area?
ReplyDeleteSmitty, look forward to seeing you on Friday, should be a good one :)
I like the schedule, Kern. I might try to slip in part of that Deucebags-Dallas matchup as well. I may just subsist on Pop-Tarts for the weekend and never leave the tennis courts.
ReplyDeleteKern,
ReplyDeleteThw shuffleboard challenge is on. See you at the player party. Bring the big talk.
Best of luck and keep us less fortunate informed. Take pictures, lots of them!
ReplyDeletethe mercury will be 3 digits this weekend in dallas
ReplyDeleteI can't find the blog about the 2009 4.5 Sectionals on the Dallas blog
ReplyDeleteThat is because Corey Noel's team didn't advance so all Dallas 4.5 talk ends until he has a team this Fall.
ReplyDeleteDallas is a 3.5/4.0 city while Houston is a 4.0/4.5 city. It shows in their teams and blog traffic.
truedat.
ReplyDelete3.5 gets no love around here.
I'm on the Austin 4.5
ReplyDeleteNo one can out smack talk the Dallas Blog though. Also, Eddie is going to 4.5 next season, so expect a lot of smack talk at 4.5 for next season :)
ReplyDeleteEddie will be 4.0 when the year end ratings come out. Bet.
ReplyDeleteHtown,
ReplyDeleteI don't get to watch the 5.0 match so you can go to it and give me a lowdown on how great it was and I'll take notes on the Duecebag match for you. Then we can compare notes while watching Dinker get hit by Ed at the Canes match at 5.
Freeman,
The LAST thing you need is more Chicken minis!!!!
Dinker,
I'm sure you picked your hotel based on the presence of a shuffleboard table so you bring the shadow and I'll bring the smack talk.
King Kern 5.0 has spoken. I'm really hoping for a Canes vs Branch match up Sunday. I'm waiting to see the battle of the Mid Year 5.0 bump ups.
ReplyDeleteOn another note - Venue. Am I the only one who thinks the TTA should rotate the location of Sectionals. Why is it always in Dallas. It seems that gives Dallas an unfair advantage every year. What other sport is the Championship series always in the same city, state, or country. Dallas/Ft Worth players get to sleep in their beds, not have to travel, fan support, easier to recruit good talent...
ReplyDeleteYes, they should look at moving it.
ReplyDeleteI think a Waco, Austin, Dallas rotation keeps the travel somewhat equidistant year on year.
I think it is purely a court issue. You have to have the available space and the friendly donation of private courts.
ReplyDeleteIt should rotate between Dallas, Houston and San Antonio. It's not just about equidistance, it's about fairness and equity between the major Metros. I know that as a former Combo and Mixed captain it's much easier to recruit the better players if you can tell them that they don't have to travel for Sectionals. They probably don't have to take a day off work or incur the cost of traveling.
ReplyDeleteFor whatever reason Austin is not interested or doesn't have the sites to support a major event. Maybe it's why there is no Zone Tourney in Austin.
Austin just has that new tennis center opened or opening soon. Maybe that will change things.
ReplyDeleteYes, I think it is a challenge to recruit those high quality college and high school players to travel when they are on a college budget too.
Haha.
I think that Dallas is the only city to not have a major zone, so that is why I think Sectionals are in Dallas every year.
ReplyDeleteTechnically, you could argue that Dallas does have a zone tournament in Ft Worth.
ReplyDeletemajor city, you know what I mean. I.e. Hosuton, San Antonio,
ReplyDeleteThis was on the 4.5 Thumbnail post so I thought I'd carry it forward to this post.
ReplyDeleteKnow Greg already did a poll kind of like this, but stack rank chances of winning:
Men's 5.0, 4.5, 4.0
Women's 4.5, 4.0
Women's 4.5 Hollis even w/o Cori
Men's 4.5 Canes
Men's 4.0 Canes
Women's 4.0 Mason Creek
Men's 5.0
Men's 4.0 SAP
Women's 4.0 Longwood
Given this I think Houston grabs 2 titles - maybe 3 if things are going their way.
ReplyDeleteAnyone ever heard of David Chang who is playing both 4.0 and 4.5 for HRC? Who is this guy?
ReplyDeleteHe must be an old dude. Plays seniors.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe I am doing this, but here it goes....My first Houston entry... Eddie will not be a 4.0 at the end of year ratings, because he will not appeal. Looking forward to the challenge of 4.5. I have played several 4.5 guys in the past month and feel good about where I am. Certainly not ready to beat top guys, but I will be fine.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see the Houston teams this weekend and really hope our team can meet Jason's team in Final. that would be fun.
Good Luck H-Town. See you in Big D. That's big Triple D as in Triple Digit Temps.
Eddie (Lifetime Dallas)
Newsflash: Cold front breezes through Dallas this weekend. Temperatures will dip below 3 digits. 98 on Saturday and 95 on Sunday
ReplyDeleteHurricanes 4.0 beat San Antonio 5-0 in the early match. Lets go Hurricanes.
