The names are just starting to trickle in, but Freeman/Benzon may end up assembling the best team this city has seen in quite some time. On board already are the Dibua brothers, Burmann/Day and Tim Green and whoever...that's a formidable doubles lineup already. Ted Phoummarath is a very capable number 2 singles guy. I'm guessing there will be some more studs added to the roster before all is said and done.
Alain Tran's team is poised to add some talent to his roster, supposedly, but at this point most teams should be shooting for that wild card slot, if there is one.
Mike Davis, Alann Torres and Rusty Branch are definitely gonna' be keeping a sharp eye on the Hurricanes....
Damn, and that is Freeman's scrub team. The other team should be even better.
ReplyDeleteOh please, let the whinnniiing begin...
ReplyDeleteDon't forget Regent and Li. A decent sub for line 3.
ReplyDeleteRecession sale: anyone need some used tennis racquets?
ReplyDeleteDon't buy those racquets!! They are JOCHEN's used goods. He will give you German Power and German Anger...
ReplyDeleteGreen/Freeman are going to control 4.0 and 4.5 it looks like. There is even a 5.0 Hurricanes Team out of Copperfield. I thought Freeman moved???
ReplyDeleteThose sticks won't grab more than $70 used.
ReplyDeleteWhat a douchetard linking craigslist postings on here.
This Nadal match is great BTW. For anyone watching...
ReplyDeleteHey Towle,
ReplyDeleteWhat's the 411 with the 4.0 league season in Houston. SAP,Chancellors,Sienna,Hurricanes I guess will all be in the Hunt.
Hey Towle,
ReplyDeleteWhat's the 411 with the 4.0 league season in Houston. SAP,Chancellors,Sienna,Hurricanes I guess will all be in the Hunt.
just curious ... what do you get if you win the Citywide playoff ? Trophy or t-shirt ??
ReplyDeletewhat if you go all the way to State in Dallas and win ... what do you get ???
what about the team that win national ... what do they get ?????
I want to see the teams finalized before making any projections.
ReplyDeleteIf you look at history there are a core group that are there every year, so you can follow the talent.
I am sure Freeman is working his mojo from his "Death Star" compound in DC.
To the follow up comment about what do you get: the top 2 teams that win city playoff go to Sectionals (state) and play about 16 teams from around Texas. The winner of that represents Texas at nationals.
Once that is all over you have an immense sense of pride and you get moved up to the next level to get your arse handed to you by the big dogs that are already there.
thanks that was funny ... so you really don't get any money or trophy or nothing ... just a good feeling.
ReplyDeleteAnd get bump up to get beat up at the next level ... hahaha later.
Freeman pulled another fast one. he has the "A" team that is loaded with talent, stick the rest in his "B" team. His "A" team looks impressive.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to try out for Freeman's "C" team, which probably couldn't beat his 4.0 team.
ReplyDeleteIF SAP and Hurricanes joined teams they would still have trouble with the Overhitters from Sienna.
ReplyDeleteFreemans 4.0 team will be fine. Sienna will be lucky to win a line. S A P who's that? Hurricanes will roll at 4.0 4.5 5.0
ReplyDeleteFreemans 4.0 team looks like a bunch of tired old retreads. Maybe that works in 4.0
ReplyDeleteThe sad thing is those retreads are good enough to win in 4.0, at least in a shitty city like Houston. I look forward to Freeman bringing that weak shit to sectionals.
ReplyDeleteHouston @ 4.0 is actually very strong with lots of strong players. The teams just get too diluted.
ReplyDeleteToo many Houston teams that split up the talent. Very few teams put aside ego and combine to put the best talent on one team. Unless you want to play out of LLTC or MPTC, you play out of your club which limits the talent pool.
Dallas and Lubbock does just that pooling into one strong team. Come on "freaking" Lubbock was the national representative for Texas. Houston is at least 10x in tennis population.
With that said we have competitive 4.0 playoff with everyone being relatively equal. State and national just hasn't been in the cards.
Either way, 4.0 should be interesting. LLTC Hurricane 4.0 looks like the team to beat so far, but as Towle said everyone is not registered. And the self-rates have not shown themselves.
There is a rumor floating that Mike Salinas in now a 4.0 and is out there for grabs. Freeman go get him....
Mike Salinas isn't he that pusher who can't put a ball away?
ReplyDeleteTrue, but isn't that what defines a 4.0 vs a 4.5 that can actually hit shots. 4.0 waits for the mistake.
ReplyDeleteSalinas would be a tough out in 4.0, in 4.5 not so much
ReplyDeleteSome 4.5 just wait for mistakes. Salinas had success. Ted P does it.
ReplyDeletewhos better Salinas or Knutson?
ReplyDeleteThey are both legends in there own minds.
ReplyDeleteHow is the 4.0 talent split in Houston? Who are the better players that are spread apart? What would a 4.0 Houston all-star team look like?
ReplyDeleteSo who will emerge to take on the "team of the decade?" If not for the outright title, at least for the wild card to dallas
ReplyDeleteDon't knock Salinas too bad. He can probably beat 75% of the 4.5 HTA league guys. Check his record.
ReplyDelete4.0 All Star Team just look at Freemans Roster. Only Deucebags can challenge team of the Decade.
ReplyDeleteJust to be clear: They won't be the team of the decade unless they add a singles stud or two. But I expect that WILL happen.
ReplyDeleteGD
Have you seen the 5.0 team that Copperfield is fielding. There is nobody that wil be able to compete that this roster.
ReplyDeleteBrian Smith
John Kudrick
David Wanja
Jason Pieters
Laurence Sombito
Otis Sadler
Brian montez
I am sure they will be adding another gun or two. I have a feeling that this team as a Benson or a freeman name somewhere attached to it. Thoughts.
Who cares about 5.0's. The other team registered has bobo and some mid level 5.0's. Doesn't anyone get the formula yet? If your going to put a team together put one that will compete at a High Level.
ReplyDeleteJust saw that 5.0 team from Copperfied is named Hurricanes. Is Freeman Captaining that team too?
ReplyDeleteSeems Like Alain Tran and his Deucebags might be spoilers for the Hurricanes. They got Aadrian Hasker who is probably the best singles player at the 4.5 Level in Houston.
ReplyDeleteOnly problem is Deucebags are not as Deep as Hurricanes in the Doubles.
To Be Continued...........
Dugas and Dugas are #1 seeds in Gallery at 4.5. Enuff Said!!
ReplyDeleteHey Deucebag Dugas and Dugas will NOT be at League Sectionals. They will be lucky to win 2 rounds at Gallery Tournament.
ReplyDeleteHurricane's will collapse as a result of to many big egos. Way to many brides and not enough bridesmaids. These guys like being the center of attention and they won't like sharing the spotlight. Just give it time. Duecebags will be at sectionals, the only question is who will be #2.
ReplyDeleteThe ONLY way Duecebag gets to Sectionals is if they get invitation to little state sectionals.
ReplyDeleteDoes Alan Tran really believe his team can compete?
Tran has posted some good results lately. I am sure that his team will be competitive but not so certain they are a Sectional Bound team just yet.
ReplyDeleteLooks like Tran is starting to poach from Freeman, he just locked up Patton for his team.....guess he's starting at the bottom and working his way up.
ReplyDeleteWhy would Tran recruit Patton? I thought he was from 4.0 team. Patton will be lucky to win a match.
ReplyDeleteWho's the sleeper team in 4.5 this year?
ReplyDeleteMy thinking is that there's not really a sleeper team. So far the most of the stuff out there is pretty well known. There may be some late additions to teams that will cause surprises but right now it seems like a 2 horse race.
ReplyDeleteWho's the second horse...Kingwood or the Deucebags or Westside? I don't think that's been established yet.
ReplyDeleteGD
San Antonio Torres Superteam lost today 4-1 to Mike Miller's Squad.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't Torres have most if his old National team squad back down to the 4.5 level. I also see that he has added a former University of Indiana player Reid Strand who will no doubt be playing the singles line up for them. How on earth did his super team lose to Mike Miller's team?
ReplyDeleteThe other San Antonio team is loaded as well. They are much deeper than Torres. Torres must have his out of towners in town to compete ????? Yes out of towners. Regardless I think Tasha is all over Reid Strand.
ReplyDeleteTosha allowed Reid Strand to play as a 4.5. She's not "all over him". No DQ's for computer rated players this year, remember.
ReplyDeleteWell whatever. Then Reid can go to Nationals and put that 4.5 trophy on his mantle. I think it's great and funny. One thing is for sure. At some point in his run he will feel like a moron out there and in the end he will feel cheesy. He won a state championship and played at Indiana and now he is going to taint his legacy. He will lose a ton of respect around the state, but the 4.5 4.5 4.5 trophy can go on his mantle. COOL
ReplyDeleteI doubt he cares about his legacy among a bunch of 4.5 league players. He's obviously a loser looking to build his ego beating up on a bunch of weekend hackers.
ReplyDeleteFunny thing is Reid will be a non factor if the Torres Team somehow makes it. San Antonio-Miller is good but can they finish the rest of the season out strong is the????
ReplyDeleteWhy will he be a non factor. Nobody can beat him.
ReplyDeleteTo the last poster. Do you know Reid Strand? Do you see his name anywhere where he has played recently besides a default and some losses in San Antonio 5.0 League? Just because he was a state champion and played for Indiana that does not make him invincible to other players.
ReplyDeleteAs it stand San Antonio Torres needs to win out and beat Miller deciseively in the last match. with that being said Strand is just 1 player counting for 1 line so he will not be a Factor unless Team Torres somehow makes it through to Sectionals.
Austin and Houston both have players that can compete with Strand.
Thats bullshit. Nobody in Austin or Houston can hang with Reid. I have seen him play many times. I think your probably on his team and trying to downplay him.
ReplyDeleteAccording to tennis link he played a league match and won two and one if that was really him.
Really no one can be competitive with Reid? Come on I guess you know everyone in League tennis then. Reid is a nice player but he is still just 1 Line. Don't think he can play 5 matches at Sectionals just yet.
ReplyDeleteStrand is a low life. Pathetic creature who needs the ego boost of beating up 4.5 players and Torrez sucking on his d*&k
ReplyDeleteIf Strand is on Torres team, then he likely tanked the 5.0 matches to get bumped down to 4.5 this year. Torres and his squad is why USTA team has no respect for our teams when they qualify for Nationals.
ReplyDeleteRight on. Austin has Juan Dekruyff and a couple other pretty good guys. The San Antonio sleeper team has 4 singles players that are equal to Juan trust me. None of those guys can hang with Reid. The SA sleeper team will not miss a beat and will be ready. I don't know Reid. I doubt he is a bad guy. The problem is guys like Torres brain wash these guys and stroke them and convince them to play these leagues. It's sad because Alan Torres has some nice guys on his team but everyone has lost respect for them because of all the crappy stuff he does. It is such a shame. The worst part about it is our governing body (TTA) is letting it happen. Regardless Torres cheated and had his guys tank and they still got DRUMMED.
ReplyDeleteWOW. Torres SuperTeam upset in a big way. Like someone mentioned can Miller's Team finish the job. History suggests otherwise. Miller team is Bain redux. All hype no substance. Should be an interesting 2nd half in SA.
ReplyDeleteHah. We shall see. You clearly have not done your home work. That freakin team is loaded from top to bottom. WE SHALL SEE.
ReplyDeleteAnyone see the lineup Torres put against Millers team. What was he thinking. He must have underestimated Miller. I guess after drumming them the last few years torres thought he only needed his D team to win.
ReplyDeleteAs I said you have not done your home work then. Torres knows he has his hands full. He will have his Corpus(DeLeon)-Houston(Strand)-San Antonio Team out next time to play. That is okay because Miller did not have 2 of it's best players out either, but that is just it they are that deep.
ReplyDeleteHow can a big city like San Antonio have a Corpus guy and a Houston guy on the roster? I thought there was a 50 mile rule and the big cities only got 1 player outside of 50 miles. Can anyone clarify?
ReplyDeleteThey also have Mario Gloria from del Rio. The last two to sign up will be kicked off the roster once protested. I'm sure Miller knows this.
ReplyDeleteTo Bad Vince Giordanelli didn't get to join the Miller Group in defeating Team Torrez. Torrez has never played fair nor will he ever play fair but it's ok b/c he and his team should be planning a tubing trip sectionals weekend. They will be exploited very soon.
ReplyDeleteI agree. You need to look at the 2008 5.0 league schedule in which Torres and Vasquez formed 2 teams to tank matches and get all the 5.0's rated down. It is the worst case of cheating I have seen so far. They are a disgrace to the state of Texas.
ReplyDeleteAlan has Strand listed as living in San Antonio. That right there tells you he knows he has an illegal team or he would not feel the need to do that. Strand works in Houston right ??? That is one heck of a commute.
ReplyDeleteIf a player is illegal by the 50 mile rule are his lines defaulted retroactively?
ReplyDeleteIt was sure noticeable that Alans team of Sandbaggers and 5.0 where not match for Millers team... is what will happen. The only teams that are going to advance to sect. and then nationals are the teams that have teaching pros on them or guys that are right out of college... Miller at least has teaching pros. on his team... Hildebrand put a spanking on cambon and Trautman was no match for Manolo... I am sure there will be other teams with sleepers out there... good luck to all...
ReplyDeleteStrand does work and live in Houston.
ReplyDeleteHow did Chad Case get bumped down to 4.5? He only lost 1 match in all of 2007 (at nationals in a 3rd set).
ReplyDeleteProbobly because Davis needed singles help. They were way short handed in Dallas last year.
ReplyDeleteTorres is probably paying Strand to play, why else would a guy like that bother in 4.5 ?
ReplyDeleteWho cares if Torrez is cheating by having 3 out of town players. That is to be expected from him to try and cheat the system. What about Team Miller stomping them you gotta love that.
ReplyDeleteIs this a San Antonio blog. Let's get back to bashing Red or is Torrez the Red of S.A.
ReplyDeleteBoth are dirty but Torres is hands down the worst cheater in Texas Tennis.
ReplyDeleteWho cares about that FATASS Torres. He Sucks and his team will not be at Sectionals so who cares.
ReplyDeleteWith Red not playing 4.5 this year we needed a new FATASS target.
ReplyDeleteJust saw that Tom Ristau signed up a 5.0 Team. Why?
ReplyDeletewhat do you mean, why? he probably has some 5.0 guys at westside that want to play so they are forming a team.
ReplyDeleteRistau is no 5.0 so I hope he can gather some players to be somewhat competitive in the 5.0 league.
ReplyDeleteCaptaining a team doesn't mean you are the stud, it means nobody else wants the headache. take Freeman for example. He's putting together Houston teams from DC- none of which he would actually play for.
ReplyDeleteRistau has a good 4.5 team that I would think he is focusing on.
Yes look at Freeman, he lives through his players even though he doesn't know how to play.
ReplyDelete
