Tri-Level Sectionals

Tri-Level Sectionals begin today in Kingwood.  At stake is a coveted spot on the courts next to the pros at Indian Wells.  Houston will be well represented, but the field is stacked.  Michael Tran, Red Benzon, Tim Green, Jason Kern, Scott Foster and Bruce Inting are all part of a talented Houston squad.  Houston opens up with the Dallas wild card team this afternoon.

Is Freeman in town for this?

  2. Houston took all three lines today.

    Go Team

  3. The Houston team qualified for the finals tomorrow where they will face SE Texas. Cap'n Freeman rode his undefeated 4.0 horses, Bruce Inting and Scott Foster. The team advanced based on sets despite a loss to the team from Tyler.

  4. It was an all SE TX Final today with Houston edging SE TX 2-1. Freeman was not in the lineup.

    Good luck in Cali!

    Texas will be represented well.

  8. The 4.5s and 4.0s were awesome this entire weekend. Even with my efforts to sabotage the team with the party bus drama and my voodoo trick to dislocate tim's finger during the match they still pulled through without much help from myself :).

  9. Anyone know if San Antonio has a tennis blog?

Looking for a better source on what happened at the Major Zone this past weekend?

  10. This is the league blog...go back to www.houstontourneytennis.blogspot.com

  11. Hey 2/24 @ 3:55pm. I played the SA tourney. There is not SA tennis blog that I know of. I may be able to give you some info on some divisions.

  12. If you have one opportunity to seize everything you've ever wanted - something like TENNIS - would you go for it? Guess what? You better try because one shot may be all you get! The Spring 2009 season is now underway! Players are now competing for citywide championship at their level!

Flex-E Sports / Flextennis is now open for registration for the Summer 2009 League. I am sure you don't want to miss the fun and excitement. This is the kind of league that works for someone as busy like you! You get to play on your neighborhood, you don't have to go too far. It's so easy to join. Just visit the website www.flextennis.com and see what's waiting for you.

  13. Any news about the Summer teams forming?

Who's picking up for Freemen and all of his free agents in the 4.0.

What about the 4.5 team, who's going to be the new Red? Any look of what the next wave of dominant teams are going to be?

  14. Freeman still will be in Control of his team. I don't think that domination of his will ever stop.

As far as 4.5 Goes I think Crush will still be the Team to beat if they can keep the team together. Although rumor is Alain Tran and his Deucebags may be a sleeper.

When does league season officialy start?

  15. will more teams play in NOHO after seeing what Bobo and company were able to do last year? It seems like more players would play in both leagues and have two opportunities to make sectionals.

I'm very curious to see how the teams shape up in 4.5 houston league. This might be a year where 3 or 4 teams have a legit shot.

  16. It is just a hedge to get to sectionals.

IMHO the league is more fun in sense that you play full tennis and the matches are on Sat AM so there is rarely a schedule conflict.

The issue is finding a location to host the home matches as they do limit where a team is from to play in the league. Bobo had/has a hookup in that he can host the team at his place where most people will have to join an existing team.

The issue comes when 1/2 the people on the team are also on an HTA team that makes city-wide playoffs -> sectionals and the NOHO team is left with limited talent in Dallas. This happened in 3.5 a couple of years ago and a lot of the teams that are native to that league got pissed for a valid reason. The team representing NoHo had about 9 players that were not the top players that helped the team win the league and they got waxed in Dallas.

  17. In the 4.0, watch out for Lakeside and a slew of "self-rated" players.

Lakeside is fielding a team again and aggressively recruiting non-rated 4.5-5.0 players to self rate as 4.0.

They would be the sleeper pick to unseat Freeman.

  18. Freeman's team is weak this year. He will have trouble winning when he is living out of state somewhere. Lakeside and Chancellors and Sienna will surpass him.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Did Chancellors or Sienna lose any players to a 4.5 bump? If not, they would be the team to beat since the Freeman 4.0 team lost Roberto N., Ricardo Martinez, Eddie P., Alex Montes. Those would be 4 players that will be difficult to replace.

Also, how strong is the Copperfield 4.5 now that Kudrick is gone?

  20. Geez, it's like a ghost town in this blog....it's been 10 days since anyone posted anything. Not that the spring league means much, but has anyone been keeping up with it? Who's team is playing well these days, and who are the teams that are likely to make a run during the summer?

    ReplyDelete
  21. The Houston team is out at Indian Wells this weekend.

Hopefully one of them can post on results.

I am confident the shit-talking will start back up over the next 30d as the summer season teams form up.

  22. looks like Sienna 4.0 mens dbl will take the division champ ... they seems to do well as a team. Not sure who on their team will play in the summer league ??

  23. We need a little blog action these days.

In 4.5 and 4.0 Thursday night league, if the captains had a round robin tennis match challenge just for the captains would win, #2, #3, etc.?

    Blog administrator....
Create a new Post for this if you can.

  24. What happened at nationals? Did Houston win?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Texas team finished in the middle of the pack. Houston Team got 1st in 4.5 and 2nd in 4.0's and did ok in the 3.5's.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Darren Crasto wins hands down. After giving the wrong address and bad directions to the opposing Captains, he would promptly default everyone. Bang - Crasto is champion.

  27. League Season rosters are needed to be in on Mar 31st. Who will be the front runner in Houston 4.5/4.0???

S.Antonio looks like the early Favorite on Paper to be NATIONALS material. THEY added their ringer Reid Strand who "SHOULD" dominate the 4.5 singles competition. Word is torres is up to his old tricks but will Team Miller be able to stop him is the question.

Gallery Furniture Deadline is coming up anyone playing?

    ReplyDelete
  28. San Antonio will be exposed come summer time at Sectionals. Torass will be in 4 a rude awakening!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. 4.0 and 4.5 should be much more competitive all the way around this year. There are probably 5-6 teams at each level that have a shot at advancing to sectionals.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I wish but I doubt it. It will probably be the same teams dominating this year that have dominated in the past. There is no evidence to suggest otherwise.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Who is reid strand anyway? I guess he must be pretty good? I hear that he and Chance Morgan are going to play on the Torrez team SA. I have not heard of either of these guys before.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Strand/Morgan are Torres Hired Guns. If and when he needs to win these 2 will be the go to guys. In addition to this duo former 5.5 O.Galvan will also contribute some knockout like shots. I thought we had a 50 mile rule?? Oh I forgot we are dealing with the infamous Tor cheaters. Its to bad that team San Antonio will be as Strong as ever.Time will tell that Team San Antonio will be using its score management system once again. Tank when needed and Sweep when necessary. Win 3 dump 2. The moment they think they have everything under control is when the San Antonio team will be most vulnerable. CANNOT WAIT!!!!

  33. Everyone keeps over looking the second SA Team. They are stacked as well, but legit.
